The Stupid Gerudo Desert

Wind's POV

I held on to Sky's hand, sword reached out.

I dipped it in the bog, Sky let me lean in some more. We were trying to see how deep the bog is.

But I was pulled back up when my sword went in up to my hand. They deemed it 'too deep' if it was deeper than the whole length of my sword.

"Is it dense enough for anything to float on it?" Four asked as I cleaned the mud off my sword.

"I don't think so." Twilight glared at the bog. "Besides, if it could and we tried to get on it, I doubt one can get on it without it sinking. And even if that doesn't happen how're they supposed to go the the edge than bring it back?"

"I have an idea!" Legend revealed.

All eyes turned to the Veteran as he dug through his bag. Before finally pulling out an ice rod.

Legend made his way to the front, aimed, then swung the rod. The spot the magic touched turned to ice.

Everyone cheered as Legend put a foot experimentally on the ice. It held his weight.

Legend led the way with his ice rod over the bog. The older ice blocks starting to melt under the high desert sun.

A collective sigh of relief brushed through the group with a feather-light touch as our landed in the shallows. The mud only coming up to our shins.

I thanked Legend as he put away his ice rod. The poor Vat was beet red under the weight of the compliments and thanks he got from the group.

I laughed at his face.

Legend's glare did nothing to contrast his clear embarrassment.

"Time to get moving." Time said.

We moved along the edge of a cliff for a few hours. The sun not getting any lower. The cliff ended, over looking the whole of the Gerudo desert.

"Holy fucking shit." I said what every one was thinking so I wasn't reprimanded. Also, everyone was too distracted with the vastest and how far in all directions the sand stretched.

But one problem first, getting down the cliff.

The sandstone was rough on my fingers and burned my skin as I climbed down it, refusing to look down. Feeling with my feet to find a foothold.

I almost cried in relief again once my feet touched solid ground. I fell back, looking back up the cliff as the others touched down around me. Several jumped away from the rock for the final foot or two, like Twilight and Sky.

Well, the ground wasn't solid, per se, it was sand, but it was better than nothing.

I ate my words as we walked across the desert. The town flickering hazily in the distance.

Walking over sand dunes was like walking over the ocean. Shifting footholds and sand being blown in your face and mouth.

We skipped the Bazaar we found along the way. Wanting to make it to Gerudo Town before the sun went down and it got cold.

I seemed odd to me how apparently, deserts were real hot durning the day, and real fucking cold during the night. Where's the logic in that?

It's like saying the wind and moon didn't effect the ocean and the creatures living in it.

Two Gerudo guards stopped us from entering.

"We'll stay out here," Time said placatingly. "But we're looking for someone named Wild. Can you find them for us?"

A guard was sent as we settled down under a tent.

The crunch of approaching feet made me looked up tiredly. Wild was there, flanked by a exited young Gerudo wearing a crown too big for her, a scarier guard then the others, and the guard from before.

"Hi..." Wild said tentatively, waving.
