worst;time

You had thought that 2017 would be the worst time of your life.

Knocking on the door, you waited patiently for someone to answer. You heard some loud footsteps before Tsumiki opened the door, panting as she greeted you with a wide smile. "You're here! I thought you'd be coming later?"

You frowned. "I have some mission I got assigned last minute," you sighed, as you stepped inside, taking off your shoes. Tsumiki took the bag you held in your hands. "Thought I'd bring some breakfast from that bakery you like."

"Oh, thank you!" Tsumiki grinned, looking inside the bag.

"Where's Megumi?" You asked, looking around the apartment.

Tsumiki frowned. "Oh, he left earlier... said he wanted to take the dogs on a walk."

"That's too bad," you shrugged, before grinning at her. "More food for us though."

Tsumiki giggled, nodding. You both sat around their small dining table, taking out the food you'd brought. "So, you excited for graduation?"

Tsumiki shrugged, nodding. "I don't know, I'm a little nervous. I thought it would take forever for junior high to end..."

You narrowed your eyes on her as you tried to pick apart how she was feeling. She trailed off, but you wanted her to continue. "Is there anything else...?"

Tsumiki sighed, her shoulders drooping down. "I don't know... I guess it kinda sucks that Megumi and I won't be going to school together anymore. Cause y'know, he's going to jujutsu high. And I can't."

You shook your head. "You know he doesn't want to, right? The last thing he wants is to be a sorcerer. None of us want you wishing to be one."

"I know, you've told me that like, a hundred times," Tsumiki grinned, rolling her eyes. "I just... you guys are special, you know? You have magic powers, you see things that I can't. It's weird growing up with people who can do everything that you can't. Even around my friends, I just... I can't even say that these types of curses and curse destroyers exist 'cause that would make me a weirdo."

You chewed at your lip. "I wish I understood how you felt, Tsumi... really, but"-

Tsumiki shook her head. "I didn't say all that to be comforted or anything... it's just how I feel. I get that nothing can help... I just hope Gumi doesn't completely leave his beloved older sister." She chuckled to herself before digging into her food.

"Of course he won't," you reassured, taking some small bites of the food, as you tried to think up of ways to help Tsumiki feel better.

Unfortunately, even if you had, you wouldn't have been able to do anything.

"Tsumiki's missing."

"What?"

The second you stepped into your own apartment, you were shocked by Megumi's presence, his hair more frazzled than usual, as he seemed to be pacing around the room, clutching onto his phone.

"I tried calling Gojo, but he's not answering me"-

"How do you know Tsumiki is missing?"

Megumi huffed. "She said she was going to go out with her friends after school and that she'd be back by 9, it's 11 and it's really dark out"-

"Okay, okay," you said softly, lightly grabbing onto his shoulders as you made him face you. "I'm going to go and look for her, I'll have Mei and everyone else on it, okay? You have to stay here, and not go looking for her. I'm on it, I'll call Satoru, and everything will be fine, yeah?"

"Yeah. Okay."

Everything was not fine.

2:37 A.M. (March 20th, 2017)

Tsumiki Fushiguro, 15 years old, under the care of Gojo Satoru.

Found under Yasohachi Bridge by Mei Mei's crows.

Unconscious body collected by Gojo Satoru.

As of now, is under the surveillance of Shoko Ieiri.

There was no moving on. There was just quiet acknowledgement. There was a constantly easily angered Megumi, who wouldn't come out of his room for two weeks. He didn't go to visit his sister for another month.

After a few months, no one spoke of it. You visited Tsumiki at least once a month, and you saw Gojo and Megumi's names on the sign in sheets as well, both of them coming more often than you did most months, it seemed.

You thought that Tsumiki going into her coma would be the worst thing you could go through.

But then, after the special grade Yuta Okkotsu showed up, someone you hadn't seen in years decided to show his face.

Satoru teleported into the break room, where you and Mei had been discussing a previous meeting. You jumped at his sudden presence, but were more unnerved by how serious his expression seemed. "Go to the courtyard. Geto is here."

Your eyes widened, but before you could ask anything, Satoru had teleported off. You felt frozen in place, the words not sinking into your head properly.

The scraping of Mei's chair as she pushed it back took you out of it.

You were able to back up Satoru as he confronted Suguru, with all the other semi-grade one sorcerers and above, soon after. Suguru looked back with a smile. "Satoru! Long time no see!"

"First of all, get away from those kids, Suguru."

Suguru frowned a little, but an ugly grin quickly took over his face. "I had heard this year's first years were all outstanding students. Now I understand... it was all your doing." He looked down at Yuta, who was frigid with Suguru's arm around his shoulders. "A special grade cursed human, a cursed corpse mutation, the descendent of the cursed speech users, and..." His eyes and creepy grin were directed to Maki. "The Zenin clan's failure."

Maki cursed as she pointed her spear at him. "Watch what you say," Geto glared down at her. "Because I don't need monkeys like you in my world."

Yuta flicked Suguru's hand off of his shoulder. "I'm sorry..." Yuta spoke softly. "I don't really understand what you're talking about, but..." His voice raised as he glared up at Geto. "I can't help anyone who insults my friends!"

Geto sighed, looking a little annoyed before smiling at Yuta, apologetic. "I'm sorry, it wasn't my intention to upset you."

Satoru walked ahead, moving inbetween Suguru and Yuta. "Then what exactly did you come here for?"

"To declare war." Geto turned to everyone else. You struggled to meet his gaze as his eyes seemed to pierce through you. "Everyone gathered here, open your ears and listen closely! On the coming December 24th, when the sun sets, we shall conduct the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons. It will take place in the crucible of curses. Shinkuju, Tokyo. And the holy land of jujutsu, Kyoto. We will unleash a thousand curses upon each place. And of course, their command will be massacre. If you wish to avoid a scene straight out of hell, come and stop it with all your might."

He grinned. "Let us freely curse each other!"

You clenched your fists.

A high pitched scream caused the tension to fade slightly. "Geto-sama! The store's gonna close," one of the girls' in Geto's group - one of the girls he had saved all those years ago - whined.

Suguru turned to Satoru, smiling again. "I'm sorry Satoru, these girls just insist on getting crepes from Takeshita Street. So I'll be taking my leave."

You looked at Satoru warily. He lowered his chin. "Did you think we'd just let you leave?"

Suguru stopped in his tracks. "You don't want to do that." A sudden surge of cursed energy, and a large curse erupting had everyone tense up, getting ready to attack. You heard more curses and shifted your attention to the students, who had multiple smaller curses surrounding them. The large curse let out a loud, intimidating roar. "Your precious students are within my range."

He turned back around. "Well, everyone, see you on the battlefield."

As everyone watched Suguru fly away on his birdlike curse, you looked at Satoru.

He took a moment, before snapping his fingers, killing all the curses that surrounded the students. Yaga grit his teeth but turned to everyone else. "We're going to set up an attack plan! You're all going to have to work overtime today."

Not even Nanami could grumble about this.

As the sun set, you finally found Satoru, his legs propped up on a desk as he sat back in a seat next to the window. He was frowning to himself before, but at the sight of you, he forced a smile.

"Hi, honey."

You closed the door behind you, frowning. "What're you thinking about Toru?"

"Nothing," he shook his head, turning away as he looked at the setting sun. "Come sit. You must be tired."

You nodded, grabbing a chair and pulling it next to him. He sighed, slumping his head onto your shoulder. "What were you thinking about?"

Satoru huffed. "You already know. Why ask?"

"I don't know... it's good to talk."

"Well, I could say the same," he retorted. "He was one of your first friends."

"He was yours too."

"Well then..." Satoru reached out for your hand, interlacing your fingers together. You squeezed. "Let's both not talk about it together."

The sun had set. You had technically been ordered to look for Satoru so that you could call him to the meeting. You didn't want to leave.

Satoru grunted as he got up, pulling you by the hand. "Come on, sweetie, let's go."

You wanted to whine and shake your head and never get up, never let the future come and destroy your small moments of peace.

Satoru tugged your hand.

"Come on, it's time. Yaga's gonna yell."

Ijichi adjusted his glasses as he continued with the report. You didn't really want to listen. You knew who Geto Suguru was. "His claim to possess 2000 may not be a bluff."

"Even so, statistically, most of them have to be weaklings at grade 2 or below. Even with a generous estimate there can't be much more than 50 curse users," Yaga said.

Satoru spoke up. "That's actually the scary part. I'd find it hard to believe that he'd start a war he couldn't win."

"Goddamn!" Yaga yelled. "Put out a call for aid to all alumni, the three major clans and even the Ainu Jujutsu Society. It's an all out war! This time, that curse Geto, will be completely exorcised!"

You watched Shoko as she left the room before Yaga could even finish his sentence.

"You're late... Satoru."

Well, there was a reason he was.

"You're going to do it?"

Satoru just wanted to get it over with. He didn't want to look at the way your lips quivered or the way that you were blinking out the tears building up in your eyes. He didn't want to see your hands and shoulders shaking slightly, and he definitely didn't want to hear you try and convince him to not do this. To let you do it instead.

"I'm the only one who can do it."

You sighed. "Okay, sure, maybe you need a special grade, we can't call Yuki over?"

"She didn't come weeks in advance for a whole war, what makes you think she'll come here to kill Geto anytime soon?"

"He's really injured, in this state"-

"No!" Satoru hated the way his raised voice made you back down. "This is my job. This is what I should've done eight years ago. I'm doing it now."

"Satoru..." you whispered, with your annoyingly kind and understanding voice.

Satoru shook his head. "You shouldn't have to kill someone, Y/N. Let the blood taint my hands, not yours."

You sighed. "Okay."

"Okay?" Satoru looked up at you, surprised you had backed down.

You shrugged. "Yeah, okay. I'll be waiting at home, alright?"

"Do you want me to say anything to him?"

"What?"

"Anything at all? Take your time."

You scratched your head. "I... I don't... actually." Satoru nodded, as you looked up at him. You hesitated, but you got out what you wanted your final words to Suguru to be.

Satoru cupped your face, leaning down to leave a kiss on your forehead. As you wrapped your arms around him, he couldn't find it in himself to let you go.

"You're going to be late Satoru."

"I trust that he's a principled enough man to let me hug my wife a bit longer."

Satoru came back home, late and tired.

You waited just like you said you would, with open arms.

Satoru buried his face into the crook of your neck. "This was the worst year of my life."

You held him closer. He sniffled.

"Thank you for staying."

You were clutching onto him for dear life at this point. "I'm never leaving."
