#11 Before

Walking through the streets Temari couldn't help but laugh at the many people turning their heads as Naruto and she walked towards the Hokage's office. Naruto had completely transformed, losing the mask and his already changed hair color. There were many whispers following them, wondering who this guy was and why Temari was so close to him.

"Temari!" A voice called out to them. Turning Naruto and Temari smiled seeing Haku and Sasuke walking up to them, arms around each other.

"Hey you two. How are you?" Temari asked, as Sasuke and Haku looked at the teen next to her with wide eyes.

"Naruto, is that you?" Sasuke asked, earning a cheeky grin from the blonde.

"Who else is allowed to put his arm around her?" He asked pulling Temari closer to him.

"Wow, what happened to your mask?" Haku asked, still staring at the features that have been revealed.

"I decided to not wear it anymore." Naruto answered with a shrug.

"And what about your hair? Is Kakashi alright with this?" Haku continued shooting questions.

"This is my natural hair color, Í had a permanent genjutsu on my hair, keeping it black." Naruto answered the first question, hoping that the girl would drop the second and move on from the topic.

"But what about Kakashi?" Sometimes Sasuke could really be a pain in the ass, Naruto realized as he sighed.

"I guess you didn't hear, Kakashi and Kurenai aren't my real parents. It felt wrong to continue a family tradition of a family that I am not even a part of." Naruto quickly stated, earning another shocked look from the pair in front of him.

"Oh, wow. I'm sorry, it must have been hard to hear that." Haku said, giving Naruto a quick hug.

"It's alright, we have to go though, Tsunade is waiting for us." Naruto said, smiling at the pair. They nodded and wished their goodbyes, turning around and walking back into the busy streets of Konoha.

"You summoned us, baa-chan?" Naruto asked as they entered the office, finding the Hokage and Jiraiya laughing at something.

"Yeah, I have.." She started as the two turned around, stopping when they saw Naruto.

"Ah, sorry. Well, I wanted to know if you need a week off or if you want to directly go back to your duties?" Tsunade continued after a pause. Temari laughed at the pause and the fact that the Hokage still couldn't stop staring at her fiance.

"I think a week off wouldn't be too bad, we still haven't fully come back since our training trip and a vacation wouldn't hurt us." Naruto stated a smile on his lips as he watched Tsunade and Jiraiya try to stay focused.

"Yeah, alright. That would be all." Tsunade said, dismissing the teens

When they had left the office Tsunade looked at Jiraiya still with shock in her eyes.

"Excuse me but what the fuck? Did you know?" She asked, trying to get her cheeks to stop from blushing.

"What do you mean? I knew that he was somewhat similar to Kakashi, but I had no idea to what extent or that he stopped wearing the mask." Jiraiya stated.

"Damn he is handsome, if he wasn't my godson and if we were closer in age I would definitely jump him." Tsunade commented as she turned to her paperwork again.

"That hurt, I thought I am handsome." Jiraiya joked, a smile on his face.

"You are." The blonde woman whispered, before realizing that she had said that out loud.

Apparently the Sannin hadn't heard it, as he didn't comment on it, making Tsunade release a sigh of relief. In reality Jiraiya was just stunned by the sincerity in her voice as she had said that, making him speechless.

"What do you mean we can just go through the main gate?" Kisame asked as they were approaching Konoha.

"It's true, the chunin guards are almost always sleeping and the Anbu only patrol the outer border of the Land of Fire. I don't know if they have changed that in the time I was away." Itachi explained, as they pulled their straw hats down to cover more of their faces.

"Let's find out." Kisame said, looking at the brown walls that were slowly coming into view over the trees.

"What do you mean, he doesn't want to come back to you?" Anko asked as Kurenai told her what had happened between Naruto and them while in Suna.

"He hates us. And he is right." The genjutsu mistress whispered.

"No he isn't. and I am pretty sure that he doesn't hate you guys. He just needs some time. He'll come around." Asuma stated in a matter of fact tone, as if he knew the future.

"I hope you are right." Kakashi said, a weak smile on his lips.

"Of course we are. Come on, get up you two. We are going out. It's almost lunch and I am starving." Anko proclaimed, pulling her friends up with her as she stood. Asuma only rolled his eyes smiling at his girlfriend, as he stood, watching as the purple haired woman basically dragged the two others out of their house.

"Where are we even going?" Kurenai whispered as Anko walked through the village.

"If I was to guess I would say the Dango stall. But I have no idea." Asuma answered.

Their suspicions were confirmed as the woman in the front turned on the next corner, steering away from the busy main street and towards the smell of Anko's favourite food.

Walking up to the stand Anko saw two people sit in her usual spot. She was about to confront them but Kakashi's hand stopped her.

"Don't." He simply said, pulling her away. She looked at him with confusion until she saw that he had uncovered his hidden eye, revealing his Sharingan.

"What is going on?" Anko whispered as the two linked up with Asuma and Kurenai.

"Have you seen their cloaks? They are the same ones the Akatsuki uses." Asuma stated. "Alert Jiraiya and get him here." Kakashi ordered looking at Anko, who nodded and quickly jumped away.

"You just said you would stay here and then you already have to go again? What do you want me to believe?" Tsunade asked angrily. It wasn't just his unprofessional inconsistency that made her angry, she was also hurt personally, since she had actually looked forward to spending some more time with her former teammate, although she would never admit that.

"Without my network I am useless to this village, I would be useless to you. I have to meet with this informant, I can't just abandon my whole network." Jiraiya explained, looking at the Hokage with hurt eyes.

"You wouldn't be useless to me. You are one of the strongest shinobi alive for crying out loud, you could never be useless." Tsunade shot back.

"I have to meet with him. He might have information about the Akatsuki." Jiraiya tried again. Tsunade sighed in defeat, turning towards her desk.

"When do you leave?"

"I'll be gone by tomorrow morning. I hope to be back next week." The white haired man answered.

Tsunade was about to answer when she heard a frantic knock on the door followed by Anko bursting through the door without waiting for an answer.

"Tsunade-sama, I am sorry, but this is urgent. Jiraiya, Kakashi sent me to get you, we have spotted two people that are suspected of being in the Akatsuki within the village boundaries." She quickly rambled on, causing Jiraiya to jump up from his chair and Tsunade to give him a worried look.

"Tsunade alert the Anbu. Anko lead the way." He quickly ordered not caring about Tsunade outranking him.The blonde didn't mind apparently as she nodded and Anko ran out of the door.

"Why are they walking away from the main street?" Asuma asked as they watched the two people walk along the small stream flowing near the edge of the village.

"I fear that they know we are tailing them." Kakashi said, a kunai slipping into his hand. The two other jonin prepared their weapons as Kakashi nodded to them and jumped in front of the two cloaked figures. They stopped their walk and Kakashi saw the smile forming on the left one's face.

"It has been some time, Kakashi of the Sharingan." The right person said, lifting its head and removing the straw hat.

"Itachi." Kakashi breathed out, looking at the pair of Sharingan staring back at his lone one.

Itachi's partner removed his head as well, revealing Kisame, one of the seven swordsmen of the mist.

"What do you want here?" Kakashi asked, readying his kunai, slightly lifting his hands.

"Does it matter?" Itachi asked, as Kisame reached for his wrapped sword. Kakashi only sighed, causing Kisame to swing at him, only for the white haired man to jump backwards. Meanwhile Kurenai and Asuma faced the Uchiha who had turned around a small smile on his lips.

Blocking Asuma's trench knives he kicked him away, before he was caught by a tree. Kurenai appeared out of the tree, smiling at the success of her genjutsu. Raising her kunai she prepared to strike only to find herself stuck in a tree, very similar to her own jutsu. Looking up, her eyes went wide seeing Itachi standing in front of her.

"Your skills are highly praised by your opponents, I see that they have not been lying." Itachi stated, his sharingan slowly spinning. The Uchiha raised his kunai only to jump away before a barrage of white needles struck the ground he had been standing on. Itachi watched as Jiraiya and Anko landed next to Kurenai, a frown on his face.

"Kisame! We need to go." He called out, causing the tailless beast to look at him with confusion in his eyes. He had successfully pushed Kakashi and Asuma onto the water, his element. In his mind he was clearly winning his fight. However he saw the serious look on his partner's face and complied, jumping next to him.

"What about our mission?" Kisame asked, looking at their opposition.

"We completed it already." Itachi stated, looking at Jiraiya.

"How do you plan to get away from us?" Asuma asked as he and Kakashi appeared next to Jiraiya and Kurenai.

The Uchiha only smiled as his Sharingan started to spin.

Jiraiya felt the scenery change before his eyes confirmed that information. Looking around he was greeted by a red sky and black ground. A white moon illuminated the scene in calm light as the sannin walked up to Itachi.

"I see, the rumors about the Sharingan are true." The sannin smiled.

"I don't know what kind of rumors you mean, but this is the ultimate genjutsu. In here I control everything." Itachi explained.as Jiraiya suddenly found himself strapped to a black cross.

"Pain will attack Konoha tomorrow. We are here to assess your defenses. I suggest getting the civilians out." The Uchiha stated, as a screen appeared in front of them.

"I'm sorry, but I have to make this believable." He stated as the screen started to play Jiraiya's deepest regrets; the three orphans he had taught dying, like the sannin had always imagined after hearing of their presumed fate, Minato and Kushina dying and leaving his godson without his parents.

Jiraiya tried to close his eyes only to find that he wasn't able to move at all.

A second later Anko saw Jiraiya collapse next to her.

"We need to go." Itachi stated, his right eye bleeding, while Kurenai and Anko quickly checked on Jiraiya. Kakashi carefully watched as the two Akatsuki jumped up the wall and away from the village just as a squad of Anbu landed next to him along with Might Guy and Tsunade.

"Go after them." The Hokage ordered the Anbu who immediately jumped away, as she went to the still kneeling sannin.

"Hey Jiraiya, look at me." The blonde whispered as she took the man's face into her hands. Green enveloped her hands as she checked his body for any damage, sighing in relief as she found no physical damage.

"What happened?" She asked as Jiraiya didn't answer her.

"Itachi and his cursed eyes." Asuma replied, as Naruto and Temari appeared next to the group.

"Jiraiya! Oh my god, what happened?" Naruto quickly asked, kneeling down next to Tsunade.

"Don't worry, he is fine. I hope." Tsunade said, whispering the last part to herself. The white haired sannin blinked a few times as he looked around, until he realized what had happened.

"Tsunade we need to get the civilians out of here!" He exclaimed his tongue almost not fast enough to get the words out.

"Calm down, Jiraiya. Deep breaths. What happened?" Tsunade asked, knowing that Itachi had told him something about the plans of the Akatsuki. Jiraiya was about to speak but his eyes rolled into the back of his head and he lost consciousness.
