The Elf

In the Grim Darkness of the Far Future. THERE IS ONLY WAR.

The Emperor rejoices to those who still stand with him. Though their enemies may seem weak, time will tell when they get stronger. Just like the xenos who fought humanity. Once thought as mere primitive beings came back stronger in 5 millennia.

Fort of the Imperium

"Why the hell would you bring the natives here? What the hell are they supposed to do with them in the first place?" The officer, Commissar Dreich, confused as he is as to why Captain Karl brought in a native of this place.

"Well, she herself looks eager when she looked at our technology. Any other lost colonies who has lost touch with our current technology would do the same don't they? Last time we did, one of the Feudal world turned into an Agri world in the process. Maybe it won't be a bad idea to turn this world too, you think?" The captain of the Imperial Fist asked as he held his chin with his giant hand.

"If the Inquisitors would ever seen signs of a single thing that may deem heresy, you'll doom us all in this fort." The officer sniffed.

"We got this already approved by the Administratum. She's not the only one who is here. We have other special cases with other natives the others had found. Hell, even a few of them can't even handle the wonders of our technology. One got unlucky and shot himself on the foot when he tried out one of the lasguns In the arsenal. Luckily, there was a medicae around and if he can get recovered, he may still be able to walk again.

"Natives should not play with weapons of the Imperium like their toys or she herself might lose a leg or two." The officer shaked his head as he opens his first of many paper works.

The commissar snapped his finger and a few of the servo-skulls flew across the room, ordered to scribe simultaneously the papers given by the higher-ups.

It has been a minute, and the three has been silent creating an awkward atmosphere between the three. The captain plays around with his fingers impatiently while the girl stood there in awe as to how do these skulls are able to move and hover in such speeds. The sound of ink and scribing is heard coming from the officer who is still not even halfway done with all the paperworks, and combined that with the sounds of stamps where the seal of the Imperium is placed on each of the paper.

"Necromancer?" The girl pointed at the skulls hovering around the room.

She looked out the window watching humanoid beings that looked heavily modified with different metal parts on their body parts, some even have half their head covered with different parts all the way inside their skin. Some limped forward as they push what looked like heavy boxes with wheels around the fort like they are unable to move the way it is supposed to be.

The captain, watching the girl nonchalantly saying a few sentences reminded him the same girl he met in one of the Imperium's planet he visited who gave him flowers before an upcoming planetary invasion, as if she knew their impending doom is right around the corner. Worried as he is, he knew that the same demise may happen to this planet though he as well knows that it must be done to preserve mankind.

"Sigh, look young girl if you are so eager to know us, I'll give you these books. Read them if you like. The higher-ups gave us this manual for us to learn more about your planet." The captain handed her a small book that is written both in low gothic, and in their language.

"Surprisingly, your language had been easily traced back to where our ancient history came from, and we used it as our basis. You'll get the hang of it once you learned low gothic. Might as well learn high gothic if you wanted to impress the priests here." He continued.

Lelei looked at the giant man who handed her the book just like how a curious cat looks at its owner who gave it cat food, though she waits patiently, she is determined to learn whatever these books she was given.

She opened the contents and read thoroughly, studying through each of the pages, while sitting elegantly like a princess on the couch, while the commissar quietly continues his paperwork. Captain Karl on the other hand knew that there are other things that he has to worry about and it is up to the officer to deal with her.

"Well, commissar, take care of your new daughter now. I have other important things to do that the God Emperor needed me to take." He bid the officer goodbye and left his room only leaving the two.

The officer then waved goodbye then went back to his work, any more time he would take doing his paperwork, the lesser time he would have for himself if another mission will be given to him within the day.

As the two quietly continued doing their work, combined the sounds of writing, turning of pages, and stamps, the whole room is quiet. Not even a single voice nor a whisper is emitted in the room. This went on for three hours.

Unknown

"Father! Where's father!? H-Hello!? Anyone there? Somebody please help me!" The voice of a young woman echoes along the seemingly tall walls with light emitting only on the top, revealing what seems to be a woman with blonde hair.

"Anyone!? Hello? Heeeelp! Is father there?" The sound of splashes of water is the only thing that echoes back to her combined that of her own voice echoing across the walls.

Within only a few hours, she waited for nothing, no response right after the sound of roars coming from a creature, and with the sounds of people crying, shrieking, and screaming.

Exhausted to even scream, the woman, damped on the water, whole body drenched to the point that her hands and feet are too wrinkly, as if her body is absorbing the water level that is one meter tall.

Her voice is so dry despite having to be on the waters. She could not do anything but stay in the walls, recalling most of the event that happened.

A flying creature that blew out fire from its mouth; a long-haired blonde man pulling her across the fields. Sounds of crackling wood and the smells of burnt wood. She tried to recall everything as much as she could and had remembered that last thing she saw before she is in her current place.

Being pushed all the way to the well of the village, by her own father.

"I'll return when it ends. I'll return for you, my daughter." The voice of a humble man, with a blurry image of his blonde hair, and a soothing voice comforted the woman. It is none other than her own father who prioritized her safety rather than his own.

Just having to recall the recent events made the blonde young woman gasped, and had her tear up. As her eyes had swelled up, on top of being in a very moist wall, filled by the water, it made no differences since her entire body is being submerged on water for a very long time.

Few hours later

"N-no. There must be a way to get out of here. How about I'll just climb up bit by bit." She said to herself after being stuck in a well for few hours.

The blonde elf placed her hands on the wall, pushing it a bit to check if there may be any hidden buttons around. Clearly after attaching her hand in all places around the well, there was no button at all.

Of course there aren't since it is made solely as a source of drinking water used by her village. She still didn't stop there. She lifts her legs up a bit and planted her feet on the wall, while simultaneously planting both her hands on the wall. However, due to the size of the wall she is unable to make a good angle of her body to be able to make herself climb.

Her whole body is stuck in a position of ten degree angle, and as she tried to lift herself from the wall, she is unable to do so right as soon as she went off the body of water, since she got used to being under the water she got caught off guard by the gravity that pulled her down.

She tumbled back on the water, and tried to do it again. This time, she tried to attach her hands on any rough angles of the well to see if it is possible to climb vertically upwards.

As she felt her hands on any rough surfaces, she is able to hold on the rocky surface, giving her a sense of hope that she can actually get out of there.

"Yes! I can actually get out of here!" She screamed in her mind, while having the face of determination of getting out of the dark, moist environment of the well.

As she lifts her foot and planted it on a slanted angle of the rock, she is able to get up and tried to feel for another slanted angle that she can hold on. She took another step upwards as she pulled herself upwards from the walls.

As the circular light is getting closer and closer, she felt hope on herself, but as she pulled herself upwards one more time, she slipped and fell back all the way to the bottom.

"I-Iyaaaaaaa!" The girl shrieked as she fell towards the water again with a huge splash echoing through the well.

She breathed heavily as she recovered from the fall, thinking that she can do this again. She tried to do the same method where she finds the rough edges and climb herself way back top. Though, she went back to where she last time fell, it is nowhere near the exit, but she still continued to climb.

Unfortunately, that is where her hope will finally reach, as she had hit a dead end where the walls on the upper area became smooth. She had a look of shock as no matter part os the wall she planted her hands, it slipped out. Even though she puts as much force to hold the tension of her body, eventually she slipped again, causing her to fall back to the bottom of the wall, screaming as she fell on the water with a bigger splash unlike the previous fall.

She looked up at the circle of light that seems to be smaller than she had remembered. Trying to stand up again, this time, she felt a sharp pain on her left thigh as she tried to recover from the fall.

"O-ow...." She moaned in pain as she tried to feel the part where she got hurt, only to notice that there were some scrapes on her legs and a bruise on her left thigh from the fall. Its strange that though she suffered no injuries when she first fell on the well, but as she fell again, she had been causing injuries to herself.

With all of her strength, she tried to climb back up again but with how much pain that she had felt right now, she is unable to lift herself up any further, and over time, the times she would fall keeps getting lower and lower until she could not lift herself up anymore.

Breathing heavily, the blonde elf starts to lose her hope as she could not move any further.

She slowly realized how useless it is to move again as she slowly got covered by the darkness in the well. With the only light source being the circle slowly fading away, the girl could not do anything but stay on the damp well without anything to eat. Due to how exhausted she is from the countless times she climbed she closed her eyes and hope that this will be nothing else but a dream.

Many hours later

The woman, tired to even move a finger due to starvation, looked back at the circular light that is only emitted. Her appearance has gotten worse due to being submerged in the water for a very long time, which could lead to infections in her body due to the opening of pores if not treated. Not only would that could kill her but having to be stuck in the well with no food made her lose her energy to even move.

Distinct voices are heard on the very tall walls of the well, echoing back and forth on the walls reaching the long ears of the trapped elf submerged in water.

As the seemingly young looking elf heard the voices, she got up from the water and had her hopes up again that maybe she can be saved.

"Is anyone there? Hello? Heeeeeelp! I'm stuck here under the well. Anyone there?" She called for help when she heard voices coming from outside.

The voices echoing from the well slowly starts to fade, up to the point that it went silent.

Her calls could not be heard and she as soon as she stopped calling, the well got completely silent. She didn't want to stay in this place any longer and this time she tried to scream louder this time.

"HEEEEEELP!" She shouted at the top of her lungs.

The only sound that echoed hack is nothing but her own voice. A few seconds later, soft, and strange sounds are heard from outside similar to that of a growling giant animal, and over time that strange, low sounds faded away again making the well silent again with nothing but drops of water echoing on the well.

With all hope that has finally been left in her body, she sat mounded the well, contemplating whether or not she deserves to get out of that well she stayed in for two days.

She tucked herself on the water, cupped her hands and tried to drink the water she submerged in, only to spit it out due to the strange taste the water has been made, showing signs that it had already been contaminated.

With the only opportunity she had to get out of that well, she vented out her anger by screaming again on top of her lungs, knowing that she maybe won't get out of this place anymore.

She closed her eyes again and laid her head on the wall, contemplating again on what she had remembered.

"Run! The dragon's here!"

"Loose the arrows on that red lizard!"

"AAAHHH! IT BURNS!"

"Father!"

She recalled the same events again realizing that maybe she really deserves to be in this place after all. Within those hours, she tucked herself and stayed in that position for awhile.

Hungry, exhausted, and thirsty, she might as well would die to the infections she could get from all the wounds she had after all that climbing.

One day later

"Investigate the burnt down forest for any more clues. Brothers, check every nook and cranny of this area. Maybe we can find anything that may help us understand their nature." The metallic voice coming from the helmets of the yellow space marine instructed their brothers after they are given the go sign to secure the territories after the successful scouting of the guardsmen.

The imperial fists walked through every nook and cranny of the burnt elven forest and searched through the whole area.

Some looked at the burnt corpses decomposing while investigating the place. Some watched around the area to see if there are any threats.

It came to a point that two space marines suddenly informed the rest of the team that they have found a survivor.

"Brothers. We found a survivor on the well. Call the medicae and the servitors here. Rescue the survivor as for the request." One of the yellow armored men informed the others through radio.

The servitors who joined along in their vehicles casted a long rope on the well to grab the unconscious young woman from the well.

As the bald, lobotomized machine man reeled in the rope, the medicae checked the woman's condition to see any problem using the Diagnosticator. A device commonly used to diagnose any type of ailment found in any human galaxy.

"She haven't been eating for a few days, and her extremely wrinkled skins means that she has been submerged on water for a really long time. Get her in the back and provide her some nutrients."

The servitor responded by running to the back of the vehicle and took in some meds and nutrients that can be implanted on the girl without the need to consume it through mouth even outside the hospitals. Though at this point its technology may be lost, it is still made available throughout the Solar Systems.

"She's gonna be fine, get back to the Fort. We can treat her well, just like the other natives." The medicae responded, bringing in the woman to the back of the vehicle, while the two Imperial Fists guard the vehicles if there are any threat around.

"Looks like we are done here, brothers. Bring in the others, and tell them to investigate those corpses. They may have some good genetics for mankind." One of the yellow armored giant men commanded.

"Unleash hell on that dragon!"

"Brother! Where's mommy?"

"H-help! I'm stuck under the rubble! Oh, n-no! Don't leave me here!"

"Father, where are you?"

The woman gasped as she opened her eyes really quick, breathing heavily with sweat dropping from her forehead. Awoke from a nightmarish dream, she looked around her area to see a somehow dark, and poorly lit room, filled with candles lit in some of the corners of the room, with some of the strange letterings across the walls.

The room looked similar to that of a semi-modern hospital patient room, combined that with candles and roman letterings from the walls. In that silent room, whisperings are heard from afar, as if someone is gossiping from across the room.

As she tried to comprehend with whatever place she is into, the first thing she probably realized that maybe she must be in some underworld due to the eerie rooms. The fading chants from afar can also be heard from the doors on the corner of her as if someone is praying to an entity.

"A-am I in the underworld?" She asked herself as she tried to stand up, noticing that she is not wearing her usual clothes.

She seems to be wearing nothing, as if she is stripped of all clothes. Nothing left but her whole naked body inside a capsule filled with strange fluids filling that capsule all the way to the brim, but soehow she is able breathe under these fluids the same way she can breathe air. Looking around her surroundings, she as well as other creatures who are alive are trapped inside the capsule filled with the same strange fluids.

Being able to look carefully, there were people with strange clothes that do not seem to be tailored with any native animal's clothings on the corner of the room looking across the other creatures who are inside the capsule.

Some are bears, wolves, birds, humanoid entities, wolfmen, all floating under the strange substances.

The small group of people who looked at these entities, studying every angle of the creature's body parts like they are looking at an anatomy, drew closer towards her.

As they approached to the blonde elf, submerged under the breathable substance, the one of the three men with a metallic part replacing his left eye, zoomed closer like that of a camera. As he examined her body, she just realized what he had been trying to examine and covered her body.

Though she tried to cover her body with her arms, it did not even bother the men who looked at her body, because the man with a modified eye had a built-in x ray vision to look through the anatomy.

The second man taking in the information given by the x-ray with a hologram placed on his left wrist, scribed the anatomy of the woman with great precision with his mechanical arm.

The third guy however, looking at the woman, looked closer and noticed her ears covered by her blonde hair. As he tried to get in a closer look on her ears, with a few shakes of her head, exposed her long ears similar to that of the Eldar.

"Eldar". The stout man muttered.

He pulled something out of his right pocket, which seems too bulky to be even be able to place on his right pocket in the first place due to the huge size of the metal device.

The three who looked towards the man holding the bolt pistol panicked and laid their hands on his right arm pulling down the weapon.

"No! That's one of our specimens in this world. There is no similarities of her between her kind and the Xenos." One shouted as he tried to pull down the man's arm.

"She has long ears, Rama! She is an Eldar, and any xenos will be immediately purged! You can clearly see that she looked down on us and call us Mon-Keigh for all she wants. I will blast her with this weapon and let her witness the might of the Emperor!" He argued.

"There is no evidence that the Eldar has any influence within this world for all I remember. Put down the bolter now or I will have you reported to the Administratum. They'll take a better course of action for interfering our work." The other said.

"F-fine! If it deems true that she has any single trace of Eldars, both of you will be executed for sympathy to the xenos, the Inquisitors will handle this matter if things gets worse." The stout man placed his bolt pistol back to his holster beside his right leg, leaving the two from the chamber of beings captured in the capsule.

Having to see that, the elf shivered in fear as to what these strange people can do if things would get worse.

The two men looked at each other and shrugged off knowing that this is most likely a normal thing they'd usually get when visitors came in to look at these captured creatures.

They went back to their investigating and as soon as they noticed that woman is a bit too aware of her surroundings, one of them pushed a button on the side of the capsule, activating what seems to change the atmosphere inside the capsule.

As the blonde elf felt the change in her capsule, she has been slowly getting sleepy by the second, watching the two men look at her get drowsy by the second. Within twenty seconds, the blonde elf finally lost her consciousness and went on a deep sleep.

The two men then opened up a monitor on the side to check on her heartbeat, her state of mind, and other information that are used as information for the two scientists.

After a few minutes of information gathered and scribed by the two men, they left the room, walking across the hallways reaching their destination wherein a larger room filled with different researchers handling these creatures. they place their records in a one of the drawers filled with supercomputers, handled by other researchers, together with servitors easing their help with the implanted mechanical body parts, as they press on the keyboards in front of the large monitors where data has been stored labelling each of the research departments and their findings for the new world.

Meanwhile,

The commissar just had finished his last paperwork, stretching his arms all the way to his back, releasing all the tension and stress he had for sitting on his office chair for many hours. He yawned for a bit and watched as the servo-skulls flew out of his door to continue their upcoming tasks as per use for the others tasks ordered by any other higher-ups.

He stood up and approached the young aqua-colored native, who sounds asleep on his couch, dropping one of the books she held in his office's bookshelves. She had been surrounded by books of all kinds around her, and looking at the officer's bookshelf, only a few books where returned back, and it seems that the rest are scattered on the floor.

"She's a bit too persistent to be even be able to read these all in just a few hours." He looked at the last book she read which clearly shows her interests of the Age of Strife, the Horus Heresy, and clearly the book that she last read in the last page shows how the Imperium's objective is to find every lost colonies of the galaxy, and to unite humanities to fight other xenos beings that may doom humanity. What seems more interesting is that the other books she previously read that were stacked up leading to that shows an encyclopedia of planets, the old books that tell theories of the world being the center of the universe, debunked by countless individuals of the ancient times that the sun is actually where Terra is revolving.

He looked through the sequence of books leading to where she last read that shows different scientific theories that tells how their technology advanced to the point that they are able to leave their own world to colonize other planets. As she delved deeper, the books started to get more advanced to the point that it is in a level where not even an average citizen of the Imperium would learn.

Her dedication of studying these in a span of a few hours means that she has so much to learn. He placed back the scattered books on the floor returning it all back to the bookshelf. After sorting out and organizing the books back to where they are placed, he looked back to the young girl that seems to be sleep talking In her sleep.

He pats her head for a bit, stroking the short light blue hair the same way a father caressed her own daughter in her sleep. She smiled as she felt the roughened hand of the commissar, slightly moving a bit in a comfortable position on her couch.

"I guess she had too much information to take in after reading all these books, exhausting her mind in the process." The officer said in his mind.

He walked to his drawer, opened it up, and pulled out what seems to be a folded thin blanket that had its bright colors fading due to how long it has been staying there. Beside the folded blanket it was last placed shows a figure of a small plushy bear of what was once a known animal back in terra only to be extinct after thousands of years of terraforming and abuse of resources, of his home planet.

He placed the blanket on the young girl and dimmed the lights of his office, then left the room. He checked on with whatever is going on in the Fort, as he stretched his arms once again and sniffed the fresh air of the New World. As he looked at the marching guardsmen, ranging from the dark, gray colored uniforms and their leathery masks, the khaki uniform with green armor holding their lasrifles, the stomps coming from the giant yellow space marines, and some servitors pushing the logistics around with other officers, fixing their collars and ordering around the other regiments.

He made himself look presentable by fixing his greatcoat and headed to the other department where the office of the Captain of the Imperial Fist is lead to.

As he stationed himself in front of the office, he pushed a button beside the office, emitting an electric sound muffled in the inside of the office.

"Come in." The sound of a low, deep. muffled voice is heard in the door.

The officer enters the room to see the giant man sitting on a large desk, signing up some documents and papers with the seal of the Administratum on each of the papers.

"I've been waiting Commissar." The captain said as he placed his quill back to the ink.

"The Administratum has approved a request by the Inquisitors to pass through the new world, and your mission is to take this inquisitor and show him around the place. Within a few days, get yourselves ready as we are also increasing the size of your current regiment to a hundred. Though you're going back to Koda village again, you'll be accompanied with the inquisitor and you'll be heading forward." The captain said.

"Tch. Bring him in, it's just going to be a few round ups and then he'll come back to Terra anyway." The officer said as he folded his arms.

"Well, how's the kid going for you?"

"She's been studying all the books I placed in my bookshelf. That kid is a bit too enthusiastic for someone to be able to read all of that."

"Well, she's in your care now. We don't know how to deal with her anyways, the Administratum had not ordered anything regarding these matters so all we had to do is take a few of them and use them as diplomacy. Sadly, there is no important persons within the natives. They call themselves peasants. Bloody hell, another empire of a planet that holds true for having such a feudal system."

"So, have you made any exploits that we can take advantage in order to take on this 'Saderan Empire'?"

"Look, we don't want to waste our bullets to such a weak empire. It's more unnecessary than I thought. These ammunitions would have been better spent on Tyranids invading our home planets than these people. So it is better resolved with words, wouldn't it?" The giant man said.

"May the God Emperor hope that these people would may amends with us as they seem to be a bit of an infighting within the Empire. We can take advantage of these situations as I heard that bandits and their armies who survived against us disbanded their loyal Empire and fought against their own brethren just for resources." The commissar retorted.

"Hmm, or so it seems. We had other contacts from other factions of the continent that seems to say that this Empire had betrayed them and wished to be independent against this giant force who held all controls of this whole place. They seem a bit too arrogant. We could say that."

"Heh, just like any other planets who tried to be independent against the Imperium. They will fail after they push off a bit. How about we try to monopolize their entire state of affair to what we like and see how well it goes. Our involvement will still be there, but-"

"Officer, we have been considering that, but due to the general state of affairs, we are having mixed opinions of the natives of this world. They call us ruthless, merciless, deathbringers, and wished to not cooperate with barbarians like us. The rest called us deities. For being merciful, which came from your unit, and had been able to protect at least one village, from some flying creature I've heard, calling you heroes. That same regiment I pointed out last time, I was right. One of the bandits they've captured were mercilessly killed by those Death Korps. They decapitated one of the bandit witnessed by a nearby village in the northeast, who claimed to be a daughter of the bandit. And because of this, that village armed themselves with rakes, farming tools, knives and such to buzz us off. Due to the poor management made by the Commissar of the unit, the whole regiment lets themselves loose by shooting down those natives, blasted two shells on the village, slaughtered the women and children, and even bashed the chief with a shovel until his brains got squashed like a melon. That village has been razed to the ground, and those who flee successfully were not found again." The captain explained.

"That caused a huge ruckus in the Officio Prefectus, and that hits a blow to the Imperium's reputation. The higher-ups who heard about this didn't mind and said, "they deserved to be dead anyway. Their people had took the lives of our people first."" Captain Karl added.

"What did they do now with that regiment?" The officer asked.

"The bloody regiment are currently stationed back in this fort, but they are not going to join any campaigns for awhile. The commissar will be taking his trials for his own mistake and I doubt we will see him again. Almost forgot, he's a cadet commissar who couldn't even be able to command a regiment in such a weak world, therefore he has no right to be able to station him in another campaign in other galaxies. Lastly, you are promoted as a Captain-Commissar now. The Commissariat applauds you for what you did to the village even with such a small army, though they also considered the factors in your previous campaigns, you are now in command with a bigger regiment and I'm looking forward to how you perform on the upcoming tasks. The Emperor Protects." He concluded.

"It's about time, isn't it? The Emperor Protects." The now-called, Captain-Commissar Dreich Lustanov smiled as he saluted the captain of the space marine and left the room.
