Inej led Anya into the city stopping once they reached a tavern. Inej takes off her head scarf and hands it to Anya.

"Here. This is will hide your identity." She said. Anya looked at the scarf hesitantly before glancing at Inej. Inej gives a soft smile in assures and Anya wraps the scarf around her head covering her nose and mouth.

Inej walked into the tavern, Anya following shortly behind. The reached the middle of the room where she saw Jesper and Kaz seated at one of the many tables. Jesper spots Inej furrowing his eyebrows in confusion at the person following behind her.

"Who's this?" Jesper asks. Anya glances at Inej hesitantly. Inej gentle rests a hand on Anya shoulder.

"It's okay. They're not gonna hurt you, you're safe." Anya let's out a deep breathe and slowly reaches up pulling the scarf under her chin. Jespers eyes widen and Kaz feels his heartbeat quicken. Anya looked over at Kaz, catching the menacing glare he sent Inej. Jesper feeling the awkward tension stood up from his seat, smoothing out his jacket.

"Why don't we leave these two to talk, yeah?" Jesper says looking at Anya. She glances between Inej and Kaz once more before nodding to Jesper. Jesper leads Anya outside towards the stables. Back inside the tavern, Inej sits across from Kaz slightly reeling under his intense gaze.

"So?" Kaz asks awaiting her answer.

"What?" Inej retorts innocently.

"Are you going to tell me how you found one of the targets while the other got away?"

"I let them go. And then I found Anya as she was running from a mob."

"You were hired to do a job." Kaz hisses inching closer. While he was happy Inej manage to find Anya, the deal was both the the Phoenix and Sun Summoner.

"Yes, the job was to pick up a couple of fakes for an easy million kruge." Inej snaps back.

"We found two living Saints who can summon sun and unimaginable flames."

"A good magician is a good con artist." Kaz sneers. "The trick... is to make it look real."

"This is different. You saw them summon with your own eyes. You saw what Anya did back at the palace. They are the real deal." Kaz looks away thinking back to the carriage ride. He didn't want to admit that the girl he's known his whole life is some sort of saint.

"The best illusions are the most convincing. That's the game." Kaz says. Inej can feel her blood start to boil. Kaz diminished and laugh at her faith for as long as she has known him. The fact that he stood there while the made the cosmos sing right in front him makes her want to knock his cane out from under him.

"You can hide behind your cynicism, but I believe she's the real thing."

"I don't see you falling to your knees to worship every Heartrender or Squaller we meet."

"This is different. Their power is a miracle. I won't betray my faith." Inej states honestly.

"Pious as that may be, we cannot work effectively as a crew if you're making decisions based on religious zeal."

"Is that a threat to return me to Heleen?" Inej hisses

"Either we get the target or Heleen gets the Crow Club and Pekka gets whatever's left." Inej furrows her eyebrows in confusion.

"Wait. Why would Heleen get the Crow Club?" Kaz abruptly gets up from his seat walking out of the tavern.

"Kaz." Inej calls one last time before watching him disappear through the crowd.

Not a whole lot of Anya and Kaz but I promise, their time is coming soon.
