Starting Fresh

As soon as Ronnie left the room Ariel sat and tried again to wrap her mind around everything in the short time she had. Everything was a blur. When she had woken up it felt as if she had been sleeping for a really long time but her body ached and she couldn't breath. Nurses came rushing in and pulled the tube that was down her mouth out and it had brought her to tears. At first they wouldn't say anything to why she was in hospital but then one of the nurses had mentioned a car accident. It slightly came back to her. She was in car, the caddy, Ronnie was with her and they were arguing but she couldn't remember what about then nothing. She shook her head, she could think about that later. Christian was on his way to see her and she needed to figure out what to say to him. This would have been the first time she had seen him since...well since that morning six months ago. No wait seven now, she had been in a coma for a month. Her head started to spin again with too many thought. She needed to remember to take one thing at a time. Ariel heard the door open and nerves hit her. She still had no clue what to say as his familiar footsteps made their way round to the end of her bed. She watched as he stopped in front of her and memories of the first time she saw him came flooding back to her mind. He stood there in the same slightly awkward way but his hair was slightly longer now and that baseball cap had gone being replaced by a beanie. He looked a little thinner now, less muscled but she guessed it was from all the time spent here. He looked straight at the floor and her heart broke a little. She knew he was nervous about being here with her

"Christian?" Ariel said softly. He looked up at her with his soft brown eye. She reached out a hand to him. Cautiously he made his way around the bed to her and took her hand. She pulled him gently down to her and wrapped her arms around him. For a second he didn't respond but then she felt his comforting arms around her, she had missed him. He moved to sit on the bed just as Ronnie had. She hugged him as hard as she could but he was being so gentle with her. He started to pull away and though it hurt she let him.

"Thank you" Ariel placed her hand on his knee "For being there for Ronnie and me."

He nodded. He still wasn't looking at her. She squeezed his knee

"It's ok." He finally came out with.

"I can see it's been hard on you to." She wanted him to talk to her a bit more "Ronnie said you have been here since the day it happened."

He nodded again

"Christian I know things have been difficult between us but after all this I want us to try and be friend again." Again she squeezed his knee to try and get something out of him

"I want that to but..." he started

"But nothing. It's done and in the past. I want from today onwards to be a fresh start between us. Lets just leave what happened behind us and go from here ok?" this time she managed to catch his eye and he looked at her. She had missed him.

"Ok." He still looked guilty so Ariel gave him one of her cheeky grins that always got him smiling and there it was. The moment he smiled back at her the tension lifted. "It's good to see you awake. How are you feeling?"

"Confused. It feels like I've just woken up from a deep sleep for a few hours not a month long coma. I can't quite grasp the idea that time has past." She looked down at her arms and then lifted a hand to her cheek "and I guess I have a few more scars to deal with now"

"You're not in any pain?"

"A little stiff but not really that much. Guess I slept through the worst of it." Ariel took a breath "Was it bad?"

"Yeah. We didn't know if you would make it and at one point we nearly lost you." She saw how Christian struggled to say this. Ronnie was right, he was still in love with her and all this had been hard on him.

"I'm still here." She smiled at him again and he smiled back. It was nice to have him like this again. She really had missed it.

They sat and talked for a little while more. Catching up on any events in the world she had missed in a hope to try and get her brain to adjust itself. After a few minutes there was a knock on the door and Ronnie stuck his head round the door. Ariel smiled at them both

"This is good to see but the nurse says we have to go so you can get some rest." Ariel could tell that they didn't want to go. She didn't want them to leave either.

"Tell her I've had enough rest. Can I just go home now?" She pouted.

"I know but orders are orders. They need to make sure you are ok before letting you go. It won't be long and we can get you home where you belong. I'm sick of this place to." Ronnie stated. He walked to the opposite side of her to Christian and leaned down, kissing her forehead once again. "We will come back tomorrow ok."

Sadly she nodded her head agreeing. Ronnie made his way back round the other side of the curtain and Christian gave her a final hug before leaving. Ariel laid back on the bed as the door shut. She was happy that her and Christian were back to being comfortable with each other. She thought about him a lot that day and night wrestling with one feeling. She was and had always been in love with him to.
