Chapter 28: The Truth Part 1

For the past couple of days, I could barely go to sleep.

I kept wondering about Stacey's condition, and how could I tell Cole about it.

Suddenly, my phone rang and I picked.

"Hello darling, how are you?" My mom greeted me.

"I'm doing okay mom. How are you?" I asked.

"Good dear, do you have a second?" She asked.

Well obviously if I picked up your call, I thought.

"Yes of course I do..."

"Well then good because I have an upcoming charity event that is tomorrow. And I wanted to know if you can make it,"

"Tomorrow...that's very last minute to ask me if I can make it to your charity event-," I rolled my eyes.

"I know baby, but please reconsider my invitation. And for the heads up your sister will be there. So think over it and let me know if you can make it, okay?" She asked.

"Okay bye," I replied and she said same, ending the call.

At the moment to make matters more complicated my mom wanted me to go to one of her charity events.

Her events were for who was who in town. Indeed, those were the socialites who cared to donate for a cause or just wanted to flaunt around their money and huge egos.

Besides, going to that typical event, the last person that I wanted to see was my sister, Natalie.

Despite her betraying me, I have forgiven her but I will never forget what she's done.

Not only that, but there were quite a few people I avoided to see over the years and I didn't have the energy to make small chat with them just to pass by the time while being at the event.

But knowing my mom, she would stop relentlessly until I agree to go to her event for support.

I sighed while I checked myself out in the mirror and some bags underneath my eyes.

I was in dire need of some sleep right now.

But then again, I could always rest later this night since I didn't have any plans scheduled for today.

While I thought of how I could tell Cole about Stacey's condition, I freshened up and checked on the weather using the app.

I knew from using the weather app if it was reported on there that it would rain than a higher chance it was not going to rain.

Once I was done, I placed a lacy sleeve top and navy pants with black flats.

I tied my hair into a ponytail and pinned back my bangs.

I then applied light makeup, and check myself out in the mirror.

Knowing that I was ready, I walked towards my dresser to where my phone was.

While I looked through it to see if I had any miss calls or text, I heard the doorbell rung and went to go see who it was.

Cole

I wanted to instantly tell him about my mom's event, but at that moment I didn't know if I even wanted to go still.

He looked like a greek god as always and didn't have a single flaw about him.

He stood there in the cutting lines of a great tailor of his black suit with his hair styled in a faded cut.

Clearly, his tailor could take his under-exercised and over-indulged form and make him a figure of power just by his looks.

I noticed that one of his hands was behind his back. I was curious to know what he was hiding from me.

"Hey," I smiled at him when I gave him a hug. While I gave him a hug, I saw a bouquet of roses and blushed.

"You look beautiful," He replied, kissing my neck, "how have you been kitten?"

"I've been okay, you? I haven't talked to you for a bit," I hugged him again.

"I know," He smiled as he handed me the roses with a lovely card.

"Aww thank you so much for the gift. Cole, you didn't have to get me anything really," I said even though I loved it when a guy spoiled me with nice gifts.

I closed the door behind him and he spoke.

"That's good and sorry babe for not hanging out with you more often. I've just been busy with business and all. But today I wanted for you and me to spend the day together," He smirked, "and I wanted to treat like the queen that you are," He gave me a small peck on the lips, making me giggled like a high school girl.

"Well, you certainly do always know how to make me smile. And thank you," I smiled, brightly until I remembered the news about Stacey which dampened my mood and made me sad again.

I quickly looked away from Cole, not wanting him to see the sadness in my eyes.

Noticing my sudden change of mood, Cole held my chin in his hand and made me look up at him.

"What's wrong? Is there something that I need to know about?" He asked, seriously.
