John POV

We wake up and pack our sleeping bags. We make our way to our lockers. On the way, we pass a girl with red hair and a Chinese boy. I don't know what they're talking about, but it sounds like it has something to do with the team rumors going around.

Girl: I know, we'll have some sort of signal, like a distress signal, a secret signal so we can find each other in the forest! Can you imitate a sloth?
Boy: Nora?
Nora: Yes, Ren?

He hides some sort of pistol in his sleeves... somehow.

Ren: I don't think sloths make a lot of noise.

He's not wrong. Actually he is wrong. Sloths make no sound at all. But the girl, Nora, doesn't catch on to this. Or maybe she does. She looks like she's contemplating this, and it's sending mixed messages.

Nora:... that's why it's perfect!

Not catching on it is.

Nora: No one will suspect we're working together!
Ren: Come on, Nora.
Nora: But not together-together.

Alex shakes his head and chuckles. He's checking the ammunition for his gun.

Alex: Wonder what we're gonna see out there?
Arthur: Grimm, most likely.

Arthur is loading his gun on a bench.

Richard: I'm just wondering how their going to form the teams.

He's strapping his gun over his shoulders.

Alex: I'm guessing old Ozzy's gonna have us collect an objective and bring it back to him.

He points his side arm at his locker

Me: And how would you know that?

He comes up and whispers to me.

Alex: One of the perks of being exempt.

I nod. He must've asked Ozpin what we would be doing. I didn't even think to do that... maybe reasons like that are why American gained independence from the British empire. He steps away and talks in a normal voice.

Alex: Just a guess.

He probably says this for any nosy eavesdroppers.

Richard: Any idea what we'd be retrieving?

He's polishing his secondary weapon as he says this.

Alex: Hell if I know.

Suddenly I can hear Ruby yelling. I turn and see her yelling at Yang.

Ruby: What the- I don't need to "break out of my shell", that's absolutely ridiculous.

Jaune passes by with a piece of paper in his hand, griping about how he can't find his locker.

Jaune: This is ridiculous! There's no way I put my gear in locker 636 yesterday! I would've remembered having to count that high. Why does this have to happen today?!

He passes by Schnee, who is talking to a redhead girl.

Weiss: So, Pyrrha, have you given any thought to who you'd like on your team?
Pyrrha: Hmm... I'm not quite sure. I was planning on letting the chips fall where they may.
Weiss: Well, I was thinking we could be on the same team together?
Pyrrha: Well that sounds grand.
Weiss: Great!

Jaune comes up and leans against the locker.

Jaune: You know what else is great? Me, Jaune Arc.
Weiss: Seriously? You again?
Pyrrha: Nice to meet you, Jaune. (Let the Arkos begin)

He pushes her to the side and continues talking to Schnee.

Jaune: Yeah, yeah. So, Weiss, couldn't help but overhear your fondness of me the other day.
Weiss: Oh, you've got to be kidding me.
Jaune: No need to be embarrassed. So, been hearing rumors about teams. I was thinking you and I would make a good one. Whadya say?
Pyrrha: Actually, I think the teams are comprised of four students each-
Jaune: You don't say. Well, hot stuff, play your cards right and maybe you can join up with the winning team.

Schnee steps in front of Jaune and Pyrrha.

Weiss: Listen, Jaune, is it? Do you have any idea who you're talking to?
Jaune: Not in the slightest, snow angel.
Weiss: This is Pyrrha.
Pyrrha: Hello again.
Weiss: Pyrrha graduated top of her class at Sanctum.

Jaune looks at her blankly.

Jaune: Never heard of it.
Weiss: Ugh, she's won the Mistral regional tournament four years in a row, a new record.

He just continues to stare at them blankly.

Jaune: The what?

Schnee is visibly annoyed.

Weiss: She's on the front of every Pumpkin Pete's Marshmallow Flakes box!

Realization suddenly hits Jaune.

Jaune: That's you?! They only do that for star athletes and cartoon characters!
Pyrrha: Yeah. It was pretty great. Sadly the cereal isn't very good for you.
Weiss: So after hearing all of this, do you really think in a position to ask her to be on your team?

Jaune looks at the ground in defeat. I probably would too, if someone like that was talking to me. I didn't know these kinds of schools attracted athletic celebrities like that. I'd feel insignificant too.

Jaune: I guess not.
Pyrrha: Actually, I'm sure you'd make a great team leader.
Jaune: Oh, stop it.
Weiss: Seriously, stop it. This type of behavior should not be encouraged.
Jaune: Looks like Pyrrha's on board for team Jaune. Spots are filling up quick. Now I'm not supposed to do this, but maybe I can find a place for you. Maybe pull some strings? Whadya say?

He's a little close to Schnee's face. Like, uncomfortably close.

Weiss: Alright, that's a bit too close! Pyrrha, a little help please?

Pyrrha takes out some type of spear, throws it, and pins Jaune to a nearby locker.

Pyrrha: I'm sorry!

Alex is over here laughing his ass off at the whole thing. Suddenly the PA system comes on and Goodwitch's voice can be heard.

PA: Would all first year students please report to Beacon cliff for initiation. Again, please report to Beacon cliff immediately.

Pyrrha walks up to Jaune and unpins him.

Pyrrha: It was nice meeting you.
Jaune: Likewise.

Me, Alex, Arthur, Richard, Yang, and Ruby go up to him. Yang helps him up.

Yang: Having some trouble there, lady killer?
Jaune: I don't understand. My dad said all women look for is confidence. Where did I go wrong?
Arthur: Confidence, yes. Over projecting? Not so much.
Jaune: I was over projecting?
Richard: In your defense, most guys can't tell the difference.
Yang: Plus, "snow angel'' probably wasn't the best start.

Ruby carries Jaune on her shoulders.

Ruby: Come on, Jaune. Let's go.

Time skip

We stand on Beacon cliff. Professor Ozpin is about to explain what we're doing. We were asked to grab parachutes, so I assume we'll be jumping out of a plane. Well, that's what Arthur and Richard assume. Apparently, they've jumped out of a plane in their wars.

Ozpin: For years, you have trained to become warriors. Today, your abilities will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest.
Glynda: I'm sure many of you have heard rumors about the assignment of teams. Well, allow us to put an end to your confusion. Each of you will be given teammates. Today.
Ozpin: These teammates will be with you for the rest of your time here at Beacon. It is in your best interest to be paired with someone with whom you can work well. That being said, the first person you make eye contact with will be your partner for the next four years.
Ruby: What!
Nora: See, I told you!

Maybe that is why he gave us trackers. I can find Alex, Arthur, or Richard by using it.

Ozpin: You will make your way to the Northern end of the forest. You will meet opposition along the way. Do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path, or you will die. You will be monitored and graded for the duration of your initiation. Our instructors will not intervene. You will find an abandoned temple at the end of the path, containing several relics. Each pair must choose one and return to the top of the cliff. We will regard that item, as well as your standing, and grade you appropriately. Are there any questions?

Jaune raises his hand.

Jaune: Yeah, um, sir-
Ozpin: Good, now, take your positions.

Everyone takes a stance on their pedestals.

Jaune: Uh, sir, I've got, um, a question.

Suddenly, Schnee is launched off the side of the cliff. Their flinging us off?! I look at Alex, who is standing next to me. His eyes are wide. He slowly looks back toward the forest.

Jaune: So this landing strategy thing? Uh, what is it? Your like, dropping us off or something?

How does he not see the other students getting thrown 20 feet in the air by the goddamn throwy thing?! (Guess that reference)

Ozpin: No. you will be falling.

Another student gets launched off the cliff.

Jaune: Oh, I see...

He's probably wondering where the parachutes are, so I'm just gonna clear up any confusion.

Me: Just a quick heads up Jaune, Me and the guys here brought our own parachutes just in case we needed them.
Jaune: Oh, ok, I was just about to ask about that.

Nora, Ren, and some bulky guy in knights armor get launched. Yang winks at Ruby, then gets launched as well. Ruby follows five seconds after.

Jaune: Last question, what exactly is a landing stratEGYYYYY....

He gets launched mid sentence. A click sounds off underneath Richard, or Dick, as he insists we call him.

Dick: HOORAH!!!

He gets launched in the air, then another click comes from under Arthur.

Arthur: SEMPER FIDELIS!!!

He gets launched. "Always faithful"? Must be a motto the Americans have.
Then a click under Alex.

Alex: FREEDOM!!!

Finally, a click sounds off from under my feet.

Me: FOR KING AND COUNTRY!!!

Then I'm launched toward the forest.
