Chapter 16- Dresses

"Nova. Girls; am I the only one that realises Nova's wedding is only next week?" I question looking at them all. They all perk up at this, we've got all of the preparations. It's decided that it will be a beach, spring wedding. She chose some sort of large cake that she doesn't want to show me as of yet, apparently I need to be more patient and wait.

"Oh my god. Yes," Amalia sigh trying to contain her excitement. Nova jumps up and claps, strolling out of the room. She comes back a moment later, holding four dresses that are like a beige- champagne colour. She pulls them away from her and looks at them all then hands one to each one of us.

"Here are your dresses ladies." I look at mine with a large grin, it has a floral designed top half. The straps are close to the neck as well as the neck line. It has a floral pattern showing skin underneath and then it has the material of the dress with the flower lace covering it. I look over at Cadence to see her dress is similar to mine expect it is low cut and the straps are thick, the neck area goes into a v shape and the floral design covers the top. A state of silk rests around the waist as well.

Amalia has a plain design with no flowers, it has one strap and the dress splits at the thigh-  it will show some of her paled leg most likely. But I do notice three flowers on the side of the dress. It will suit her well. Emberly just had a plain dress too, without the floral design. It is strapless and the top is a sweetheart shape, some patterns cross over the top.

"Awe they're so beautiful!" We all gush over the bridesmaids dresses, they are simple yet elegant and beautiful. Perfect for a beach. Sand most likely will get in everyone's shoes but Nova said that some sort of cloth or mat will be placed down. Maybe one of those puzzle things that you join together and you can put stuff on it. Nova mostly planned it, Mikes response to everything was that he doesn't care- he's happy with what she chooses. It made her very frustrated because she wanted to know what he wanted. Of course he didn't say anything, he's a man. They barley tell you anything. Well, the strange ones don't....

"I'm so nervous for this wedding," Nova sighs and chews at her fingernails. It's a bad habit that she's working on, she can't ruin her nails when it comes to the wedding. Everything is prepared but all she needs to do apparently is get a spray tan, get her hair done, have a facial, a massage day and a scrubbing day. Mike and Nova have also been practicing dancing, Mike has never been a good dancer though. I remember that at the high school formal, which is a prom in America, Mike and Nova were dancing. It was a thing back then that you could take whomever you wanted to the dance. He stood in her feet so much times and ended up landing in the spiked punch, dying of humiliation.

"Just look at him and all the nerves will go away," Amalia says and smiles as if remembering her own wedding. Which she probably is. "But really, all you can ever do is stare at him. It's like he's the only one there, it's just you two; that's how it feels. And it's a wonderful feeling. Or just imagine everyone in their underpants," she shrugs.

"Noted." Nova firmly nods, turning Amalia's advice into life skills. I wonder how it will be, when Nova is walking down the isle. What will happen? How will Mike react? How will Nova react?

"He better cry when he sees you," I blurt out. The girls attention turns to me and I awkwardly flush a dark shade of red, "I've just seen it in videos that have been posted on the internet. The male is crying when he sees his beloved walking down the isle. He's crying in happiness. I know for sure that my husband better cry or I'm leaving, I'll just shout I'm out! Great idea." They look at me in horror, believing that I'd actually do that to the man I love in the future.

"You'd seriously do that?" Cadence asks, confusion laced in her voice. I sigh running my hand down my face in frustration.

"I was kidding," I comment dryly. "You guys think that low of me? I'm wounded," I pout placing my hand over my heart in mock hurt.

They all give each other looks then turn back to me and nod. Okay, they think that low of me then.... Basically we are having a girls night, to get a break from all of the guys and it's much needed at the moment.

Emberly switches on the television and the news pops up right away. But something stops her from changing the channel, something stops us from shouting at her to change it too.

"A man was shot dead in an alleyway, some nearby people told us that they heard two shots and then the murderers bolted. Here is some evidence." She picks up a silver bullet, how is that evidence? It must be though because Amalia, Emberly and Cadence gasp while Nova and I look at each other in confusion.

"That is the bullets that the guys use, we saw them once," Cadence mutters shaking her head. Disappointment is etched onto all of their faces and I swallow.

"We are gone for one night and this happens?" Amalia growls angrily and picks up her phone, she puts it on loud speaker and Jarrad answers straight away.

"Lia?" He questions. She bites her lip and takes a deep breath and then starts what she was going to say.

"Did you shoot him?" She asks not greeting him but getting straight to the point. The other line grows silent and Amalia sighs, "well?"

"Amalia...." he trails off. "It's none of your business," he says instead, all of us gape at this. It is her business, she's his wife! She has a right to know and he isn't telling her, this confirms all of our suspicions. They killed someone. And they don't regret it.

"It is my business, Jarrad!" She shouts. "If this is going to keep happening...." she takes a deep breath, "I love you but I don't know if I can be with you if this keeps happening."

Struggled breathing comes from Jarrad, "what are you saying Amalia?" His voice cracks. A tear falls from her eye and she takes a deep breath.

"I think you know what I'm saying, Jarrad," she replies steadily.

"No!" He snaps, "don't leave me, you're mine: my wife, my love, my girl, my world, my air, my everything. And no one can survive without air." She presses her hand to her mouth and sobs.

"You either choose me or keep killing, I hate it when all of you kill and show no regret. They have families! It's like you're killing Jasmine," she hisses.

"I'll stop, okay? I'll stop," he promises. "Just don't leave me."

She stays silent for a moment then whispers, "if I did... I'd die."

Did Jarrad really kill someone though? Or is he covering up for someone? Hmm....

It was good to have a little break from this book, I needed it. Thank you for the 4K votes! I love you all.
