Chapter 36

Recoiled back on my living room chair, I popped another grape into my mouth before turning another page in my book. It was a late Monday evening and to pass the time, I'd decided to dig my way through another historical romance after my parents had headed off to bed.

Just as I was getting into it, I felt the repeated buzz of my phone against my thigh. I was tempted to ignore it, but figuring it might be an important call, I fished my phone out of my pocket and glanced down at the caller ID. It was Sebastian.

Incredibly suspicious now, I stared at it for several seconds before slowly pressing answer and putting it up to my ear.

"Yeah, what now, I'm busy," I answered into the phone.

"Phoebe is that you," I heard Sebastian slur into the phone. The sound of his voice instantly filled me with confusion. He sounded sloppy and nothing like himself.

"Erm...yes, you did call my number so naturally it is me," I said flatly.

"I need you here. I'm at a party, and I'm-" he hiccuped. "I think I had too much to drink.

Sitting up straighter, I completely put my book aside, unable to deny feeling concerned. Sebastian was never one to get drunk. At any party I'd ever seen him at, he barely even got near the stuff.

"What party are you at? And who are you with?" I asked as clearly as I could.

"I don't know," Sebastian mumbled stupidly into my phone with a laugh. "I just want you here, because I'm bored, and you're pretty and smell nice."

I blinked rapidly; my cheeks starting to burn at his words. Focus, Phoebe, he's drunk.

"Is Leon there?" I asked as I stood up and started to pace around the living room. "Nope," he slurred. "It's a swim team party."

I paused, recognizing this was a massive clue. If it was a swim team party, there was a highly likely chance that he was at Cody McWhittney's house; the boy Ava had gone out with on Valentine's. He was the head of the swim team, and he was constantly throwing parties.

"I think I know where you are, don't move," I said quickly.

While Sebastian mumbled something incoherently from the other side of the phone, I hung up and quickly marched to the door and fished my key out by the little tray I kept it in by the window.

It didn't take long, and ten minutes later, I found myself pulling into a space a couple houses down from what appeared to be a moderately sized four-bedroom home. Once I'd locked up the car, I started on my walk towards the door of the home.

Stopping short of the door, I quickly rang the doorbell, and a handful of seconds later, the door swung open to reveal a freckled blonde-haired boy with a beer in his hand that I instantly recognized as Cody McWhittney. His face put a bad taste in my mouth after hearing how disgusting he'd acted on his date with Ava.

His brow lifted in surprise as he looked me up and down with a smile. "Oh Phoebe, I wasn't expecting you at the party. But by all means, come in," he said, staring at my chest more than me as he spoke.

"I'm not here to stay, I'm here to get Sebastian. Where is he?" I asked bluntly.

Looking more amused, he looked me up and down. "What are you his little babysitter girlfriend? He's fine, he just completed his little initiation that's all," he shrugged, with an easy smile.

An initiation? What the fuck was he supposed to do?

"Well, fine or not, I want to see him. Where is he?" I repeated, a little harsher now.

Cody rolled his eyes. "He's somewhere drunk off his face in the basement, but whatever, feel free to find him if you want," he said, as he finally stepped aside from the door.

"Oh, and Phoebe," Cody called out to stop me once I'd just passed through the threshold.

"What?" I snapped as I turned back round to face him.

"Do my boy a favor when you're down there and put out for him. Remember, no one likes a tease."

My eyes narrowed, hardly able to believe what he'd just said to me. "Excuse me?" I whispered.

He took a long swig of his drink. "You heard me," he smirked. "You might also want to pass on the message to Ava as well," he said before finishing his words off with a wink.

Hot with anger, it took all my strength not to beat his head to the floor. Glaring him up and down in disgust, I scoffed. "Fuck you!" I spat.

Then storming off, I marched down his corridor while weaving my way through various drunk crowds of people. Finding the basement stairs, I wasted no time rushing my way down them. The sooner I found him, the sooner I could get out of here.

The bottom of the basement stairs opened up into a large open space den. Fifteen or so people swarmed the area, mingling and laughing while spread out on sofas.

On the coffee table was a large array of alcoholic drinks, and cups, some of which had spilled over, and were dripping onto the floor. The whole thing looked like a mess, and it was clear that more than one person was drunk from the amount of nonsensical rambling and shrieking laughter that was going on.

It was beyond me why Sebastian went to a party like this. It was completely out of character. Looking all around, I started to scan the various different sectioned pockets of the room to see if I could find him. As I turned a corner of the room, my eyes finally locked on him, slumped down on one of the leather sofas with a dazed look on his face.

He sat amongst three boys from his swim team and a girl. From the exaggerated way they were laughing, it seemed obvious they were fairly drunk themselves.

"Sebastian?" I called out. Upon hearing his name, Sebastian looked up at me.

His eyes lit up, and he smiled a great big smile. "Phoebe, come here. I was just talking about you," he said as he waved me over.

I hesitantly approached, then got the shock of my life as he snaked his arms around my waist, and pulled me to him.

"Oh my god," I cried as I tumbled into his lap. Sebastian unfazed by my surprise, just tightened his hold on me without an ounce of shame.

"You look pretty today," Sebastian said before kissing me against the side of my neck. My face burn hotter than I ever thought possible, and I felt tingles run up and down my spine.

His drunk friends just laughed at his action. "Easy Sebastian, you're scaring the poor girl," one of his teammates called out.

Once recovered from the shock, I cleared my throat while trying to control my racing heart. "Sebastian come on; I'm taking you home. Let go," I urged as I tried to pry his fingers free from around my waist.

"No," he said stubbornly, sounding worryingly like an impatient three-year-old.

"Sebastian, come on," I bargained once again, as I tried to wiggle around in his grasp.

"Stop that, you're going to give me a boner," Sebastian stated boldly.

I immediately stopped wiggling and felt embarrassment once more wash over me. Sober Sebastian was blunt enough, but it was clear that drunk Sebastian could top him in a heartbeat.

"Please, Sebastian, come on, we've got to go home," I persisted as I tugged at his hand. Sebastian finally loosened up some, and I was able to pull myself free from his lap.

"Thank you," I snapped. "Now, come on, get up," I said as I grabbed his hand and tugged. Sebastian stumbled up to his feet, nearly tripping himself up in the process. "Woah, he mumbled.

Ignoring him, I tugged on his hand and led him through the basement and up the stairs. "This is kidnapping," Sebastian randomly decided to announce as we got to the top of the stairs.

I shot him a look over my shoulder. "Nah, I'm pretty sure it's not. I think it's called acting like a decent person," I answered flatly.

He hiccuped. "It's fine, since you're a hot kidnapper, I'll allow it," he mumbled.

I let out a heavy sigh, realizing it was a pointless waste of my time to try and reason with an intoxicated person.

Making a beeline for the front door, I stopped just short of it as I remembered something. "You've got all your things, right? Like your phone and stuff?" I clarified.

Sebastian double-blinked at me and tilted his head. "A phone?"

Rolling my eyes, I stepped forward and in annoyance started patting up and down the tops of his thighs in search of his phone. Finding it in his right pocket, I stepped back in relief.

Sebastian wobbled slightly before looking at me with a smile. "You're a Pervert!" Sebastian chuckled. "Phoebe the pervert."

Unfortunately for me, he said it kind of loudly causing a couple of people to look our way.

"No, I was helping you find your phone!" I insisted. Sebastian just started chuckling and muttering nonsensical crap about how he was cool having me as his pervert.

Not bothering to humor him with a response, I opened the door and led us out into the cool air of the night. Once I'd successfully dragged him to the car minus a few accidental stumbles, I popped open the passenger side door and pushed for him to climb in. "Come on, get in," I said softly.

"No," he protested, standing rigidly in place. "I want to go skinny dipping," he randomly announced.

"Good, we'll go skinny-dipping if you get into the car," I lied.

He did a sloppy once over of my body and smiled then thankfully proceeded to shakily climb into the car. Once he was comfortably sat, I reached over him to do up his seatbelt.

As I clicked the seatbelt into place, I looked up and locked eyes with him. I swallowed hard, finding him frighteningly close and my heart hammered away. I noticed Sebastian glance down at my lips before leaning forward a little. I stupidly almost let him make contact before I regained back my senses and immediately pulled away.

Quickly closing his car door, I made my way around the car and settled myself into the driver's seat.

Sparing a look over to Sebastian, I took in his hiccupping, mumbling demeanor, and soon came to the strong conclusion that there was no way I could take him home. His mum would kill him if she saw him like this.

And equally, my parents would kill me if I brought a boy home, especially a drunk one. I debated my options for several seconds before finally deciding I'd just have to bring him home. It was half eleven anyway, so my parents surely had to be fast asleep.

The plan could be simple. Sneak Sebastian in, let him stay the night in my room then sneak him out again early in the morning.

Starting up the car, I took in a deep breath in and out to calm myself down about what I was about to do. This was fine. Everything was going to be fine.
