Chapter 5

"I think we should get outta ere. Brighten yer mood, I reckon. What d'you think?" Fergus suggested, standing up and stretching his hand out to Campbell, who looked up at him curiously as he took his hand. "I'd say yer off yer meds...but, I can't, since I haven't taken mine either... in weeks actually! I don't think I can..." he began hesitantly, on seeing Fergus lead him to the window and climb out before beckoning to him to follow him out. "Brilliant! So, it's settled! Campbell Bain shall have his first taste o' the world outside! Allonsy, while there's still light out!" Fergus exclaimed, interrupting him as he began to decline politely. "Where'd ya learn that from?" Campbell enquired, surprised on hearing him say a word in a language not known to him. "Just from some French book I picked up on the outside." the knowledgeable, well-travelled man boasted, hopping down and flashing him a goofy grin from down below. Campbell looked around, hoping no-one would catch them, before joining him on the street outside.
"I bet this must be how heaven looks like! I could stay ere forever!" he cried out, his eyes glinting with delight as they stopped by the records shop first and he browsed through them all. "We could... if we were free. Free as a bird to soar..." Fergus muttered wistfully to himself. "Oi! Don't blank out on me again, ya weird man! What d'you think? Neil Sedaka....never played his stuff before." Campbell snapped him back to reality, waving an album in his face. Fergus agreed, absent mindedly. "Think we'd better get goin. I don't like the way that ol lady's lookin at us! Feels all judgemental." he changed the topic, frowning on seeing a nosy old lady stare at them on seeing Campbell intertwine his lanky fingers with his own chubby digits. "Look at ya...big man, big words!" Campbell teased as he quickly pulled him out of the shop.Campbell knew he was never gonna forget the feel of raindrops on his face for the first time as he felt the skies open up as soon as they stepped out onto the street. And he knew he wasn't gonna forget what came next either, as Fergus pulled him aside into an alley to shelter him from the rain.
The big romantic lug took this opportunity to lean against Campbell's lanky frame, one hand pressed against the brick, poster-covered wall to steady himself with the other hand caressing the young RJ's longing face, teasing him by leaving light pecks and sucking on his neck before he planted a passionate kiss on his soft, sweet lips. Campbell felt that familiar flutter and time stand still as they expressed their love for each other- snogging, nuzzling, caressing and cuddling- away from the judging eyes of passersby.
They were greeted by Mr. Bain, who'd decided to drop in to check on his son in his usual overprotective manner when they finally returned to the asylum. "Yer soakin wet, the two o' ya!" the suspicious senior observed as they entered the room. "Aye! We were takin a shower together- Fergus an' I. That was excitin, wasn't it?" Campbell lied with a mischievous wink and an impish grin, just to give his old fashioned dad a fright. "Aye! Think we oughta take our clothes off the next time we do that though. Give us a chance to explore each others' bodies an' stuff, ya know?" Fergus seconded with an equally impish and wicked grin. Even though, they'd expected the old man to faint on hearing their revelation, it only led to him throwing his hands up in exasperation and disgust instead!
