0.5: Sincerely, K

KAI POV

Living so close to the institute was an advantage. My father had always lived close to it, but seemed to enjoy the scenic walks we could take before reaching the institute. My father was my inspiration. I don't want to let him down...

"You have no reason to be nervous, Kai ah. You've prepared for this your entire life," my father said as we walked. He was always confident in my abilities. Was this because he went through training himself ? I sighed. "알아요, 아빠. 유산이 저와 함께 사라질까 봐 걱정됩니다." (I know, Dad. I am just worried the legacy will die with me.)

My father seemed to understand what I meant. He was relatively excited to send me to the institute, but seemed alarmed by how anxious I was. "I said the same thing once, Kai ah. Legacies are not something you can control. It can die with you, but it can also live on with you." I sighed once more as we walked. I know he means well, but I was still nervous.

"집에 오고 싶으면 그냥 집에 와요. 그냥 집으로 오세요. 난 여전히 당신이 자랑스러워요, 내 아들." (If you ever wish to come home, just come home. I would still be proud of you, my son.) My father rarely was this sentimental, but this was different. He knew exactly what I was feeling. Knew exactly what to say. "What about the others ? We promised to attend together..." This was a valid question. I could either go into the institute as promised, or I could just go home.

"If they can't understand how you feel...They were never really your friends, Kai ah." I took a deep breath as we reached the Monzara Institute' giant front gates.  "Was this how you felt, Dad ? That you had to go home..." My father sighed as tears welded in his eyes, even though a smile was on his face. "My time at the institute was very different from what you'll experience, Kai ah. You shouldn't worry about things that you won't deal with at all."

Before long I met up with my friends & we made our way inside...
