Redesigning Stoned

So, last May, I saw this film called Stoned, and it... really wasn't good. At all. I was a massive Brian Jones fan at the time, and the more I read up on his actual life, the more the movie pissed me off. So one day, I just decided to try and sketch out how I would've done it if I'd been the one writing and directing ('cause ten years of research my ass).

First things first, I would have cast someone who looked young enough to be 17 (might be a double cast, considering Brian was 27 when he died and admittedly wasn't looking his best). In some ways, Leo was alright, but my main issue with him (besides the fact that despite being 26 at the time, he looks way too old) is that he couldn't convey Brian's charisma very well at all. I keep hearing Charlie Heaton's name come up, and admittedly, if I were able to make a Rolling Stones biopic or miniseries right now, I might consider that (I mean, he is 26 right now).

The second thing I wanted to tackle with this scene is particular is taking out some of the pool imagery, because this movie had way too much of it. I understand the intent, considering Brian drowned, but I don't need to be reminded of that fact every other scene or so. So instead, in my rendition of the scene, he's just performing in the streets of Cheltenham, because honestly, that makes more sense to me than performing in front of a pool.

I'd continue on, but I'd rather save the rest for a day I decide to do another one of these. Admittedly, considering I'm obsessed with the Beatles right now, I don't know when that will be, but I will say that this movie's failure was what inspired me to tackle a Rolling Stones film project of my own, and I just hope that if it ever happens, I can make it work.

On one last note, here's the full drawing minus the comparison:
