(Start in the lobby of SquidForce Tower. SPIDER, INKURA, HIRO, and SHUMI are sitting on the floor together. BRIDGETT stands at the battle pot.)

Hiro-Ink battles can get really stressful, so I wear these headphones and play some lo-fi music while I battle. I've gotten so used to it that if you take them off, I might start shaking.

Bridgett-Hiro, what's a rank-up battle?

Hiro-A rank-up battle? Already?

(He gets up and walks over to her.)

Hiro-If you're close to going up a rank, they'll make you do a rank-up battle. It's like a series, but instead of five wins, you only need three.

Bridgett-I didn't need to when I got to B+.

Hiro-B+ to A is a much bigger jump than B to B+. If you wanna battle in A rank, you gotta prove you can battle in A rank.

Bridgett-I wanna battle in A rank!

Hiro-Then let's rank up! (to SPIDER and INKURA) Hey, you two. You ready to rank up?

Spider/Inkura-Uh...

(Cut to MakoMart. FRYE and BIG MAN are commentating.)

Frye-There's a Splat Zones battle happening at MakoMart, and we're gonna have fun!

Big Man-Team colors pink and teal are.

(BRIDGETT is pink. She has the Dualie Squelchers. SPIDER and INKURA are teal.)

Bridgett-Um...Spider? Inkura?

Frye-Ready...

Frye/Big Man-Go!

(The players launch onto the arena. BRIDGETT fires to the right and swims forward.)

Frye-Remember, this is Bridgett, Spider, and Inkura's third battle in their rank-up series. Despite being on separate teams, they all have two wins on their rank-up journeys.

(BRIDGETT jumps to the landing below.)

Frye-Now that they're against each other, only one--or two--can graduate to A rank.

Big Man-Teal first the zone to has made it.

(BRIDGETT swims to the middle. She starts firing on the zone. The pink kid next to her fires their Tenta Missiles.)

Frye-Well, teal didn't expect the other team to have a REEF-LUX.

Big Man-Teal control has.

Frye-(booth) I stand corrected.

(A teal suction bomb lands next to BRIDGETT. Two teal kids start firing at her. She dodge-rolls away.)

Bridgett-Oh, crab!

Frye-Teal has lost control.

(BRIDGETT's special finishes charging. She drops her Wave Breaker in the alley.)

Big Man-When you panic, you weird things do, I guess.

Frye-Big Man, be a little sensitive. Remember what Shiver told us--

Big Man-Teal control has.

(BRIDGETT swims back to the zone. She fires at a teal girl with a Splattershot Pro.)

Frye-(booth) She wouldn't want us saying it on air, anyway. Kinda personal stuff.

(Another girl with a Nozzlenose starts firing at her. BRIDGETT dodge-rolls away. The REEF-LUX kid gets out their Tenta Missiles and immediately gets splatted.)

Frye-Okay, that's bad.

(BRIDGETT swims up onto a block.)

Frye-(booth) If you can't REEF-LUX missile spam, what can you do?

Big Man-(booth) The high ground get!

Frye-(booth) Yeah. Bridgett and Ibui might be onto something.

(A Point Sensor lands on the block. BRIDGETT dodge-rolls off.)

Frye-But they'll have to make the move if they want to win.

(SPIDER drops a Wave Breaker in the middle of the zone. The Nozzlenose girl starts firing at BRIDGETT. She dodge-rolls out of the way. The Nozzlenose girl splats her anyway. She respawns and launches into the arena.  She swims out to the right.)

Frye-I'd suggest flanking, but MakoMart doesn't have a lot of flanking room. You have to go down the middle, something teal won't let pink do.

(BRIDGETT hits INKURA once, but then the Nozzlenose girl splats her.)

Big Man-The pink team anything isn't getting covered.

(BRIDGETT respawns and launches into the arena.)

Frye-At this point, pink's gotta get in there and hope for the best.

(BRIDGETT starts covering the zone. The REEF-LUX kid comes in next to her.)

Big Man-Teal control has lost! Pink this might bring back!

(INKURA comes up behind BRIDGETT. BRIDGETT turns around as INKURA passes her. She gets behind INKURA as she and the REEF-LUX kid splat each other. The Splattershot Pro girl comes back in. BRIDGETT's special finishes charging. She drops her Wave Breaker. She swims forward and around the bumper in the middle. The Splattershot Pro girl comes back in.)

Frye-We gotta bring this back. We gotta bring this back.

(BRIDGETT respawns.)

Big Man-Teal control has!

(BRIDGETT super-jumps to the center.)

Frye/Big Man-GAME!

(Fade to the cafe. BRIDGETT has her head on the table.)

Judd-And the winner is...Team Teal by perfect knockout!

Spider-Yes! That's rank A for us!

Inkura-I couldn't have done it without you!

(They high-five. BRIDGETT groans. HIRO and SHUMI run in.)

Hiro-Congrats on the rank-up, guys!

(BRIDGETT groans even louder.)

Hiro-Bridgett, hey, I know you got one loss, but that's just it. One loss. You've already got two wins. That means you have two battles at most to prove yourself.

(BRIDGETT lifts her head up.)

Bridgett-But what if I lose those battles?

Hiro-Then you start another series. It's not like you're gonna get kicked out of the League.

Bridgett-How do I win, then?

Hiro-You're not allowed to switch weapons mid-series, so with the Dualie Squelchers, I'd suggest not hanging back.

Bridgett-I have the range. I can cover the zone from a few feet back.

Hiro-You can't expect range to get you to rank A. If you're going to pick a big turfing weapon, you have to be on that zone making sure it's covered.

Bridgett-But how am I supposed to keep people from splatting me?

Hiro-Science is still figuring that one out.

(He holds his hand out.)

Hiro-C'mon. The next battle's gonna start without you.

(ZAKI comes up the stairs.)

Zaki-Hey, you four.

(They look up at her.)

Zaki-Timo's been doing some reconnaissance at site 4, and, uh, you might wanna see this.

(Cut to site 4 of Alterna. SHUMI, SPIDER, INKURA, BRIDGETT, and ZAKI are standing at the base of a large metal cube with SHIVER's logo painted twice on the side. There's a kettle on top of the cube.)

Zaki-Inkura, you said you found Frye's logo near the first signal?

Inkura-Yep.

Zaki-Then this can only mean one thing.

Bridgett-All things considered, this is much less surprising.

Spider-But how do we get up there?

Inkura-Easy.

(She turns to the right and inks up the side of a crate. They swim up and jump to a slightly shorter metal cube. From there, they run up a ramp to the kettle.)

Bridgett-I still feel like this'll be harder 'cause I've met Shiver, and she's, like, yeesh.

Shumi-When?

Bridgett-I'll tell you about it later.

(They dive into the kettle. Cut to the antechamber of site 9999. They appear on the center circle. SPIDER, INKURA, and SHUMI get out of the way. BRIDGETT gets equipped with a Hero Shot. They walk through the door, and it launches them to the start.)

ORCA-Fight your way to the exit.

(The agents stand on a long plank. There's a large, circle-shaped arena below them.)

Marie-The reading is coming from just up ahead!

Mikado-It's Keiso! It has to be!

(They step on a launchpad. It launches them onto the arena.)

Shiver-(offscreen) Stop where you are.

(Metal bars lower around the arena. SHIVER drops down in front of them.)

Shiver-After the treasure? You have excellent taste. But you're too delicate to claim this particular item. Don't you agree?

Bridgett-Hey, it's Shiver!

Shiver-Ah, I see. The cheese-brain routine. Guess you're pretty wicked after all. We'll have to teach you some manners.

(She looks over her shoulder.)

Shiver-Join me, Master Mega!

(A giant mechanical shark swims up from the moat surrounding the arena. SHIVER backflips onto it.)

Inkura-Where did you get that?

Shiver-It was a gift from my first boyfriend. He was a shark.

(She grabs onto the handlebars.)

Shiver-Pedal to the megalodon!

(Master Mega dives back into the moat.)

Inkura-Dude, this rocks!

(SHIVER steers Master Mega to the left.)

Shiver-"This rocks"? Do you have any idea why I'm doing this?

(SHUMI throws YANGHAI at Master Mega and misses. Master Mega dives into the moat and jumps back out, sending a wheel of blue ink across the arena.)

Spider-Uh...for money?

Shiver-Lemme give you a hint: who's the most popular member of Deep Cut?

(She steers Master Mega to the left again.)

Bridgett-You?

Shiver-Please. That last Splatfest was a fluke. It's BIG MAN!

(She flings another wheel of ink at them.)

Shiver-Everyone loves Big Man, and you know why? It's because our company makes him out to be a novelty when there are millions like him across the world.

(She keeps steering Master Mega to the left.)

Shiver-They don't choreograph anything for him so he can dance around like some oaf.

(Master Mega dives into the ink.)

Mikado-Watch out! They're gonna strike from below!

(Master Mega's fin can be seen moving across the arena. SHUMI throws YANGHAI at it. Master Mega jumps up and snaps him up.)

Inkura-Oh my God! They ate Yanghai!

Shumi-Hey, sometimes Maws eat things they shouldn't.

(Master Mega starts convulsing.)

Mikado-They're out in the open! Now's your chance!

Shiver-They let him talk in his native syntax so people can laugh at how funny he sounds.

(BRIDGETT starts shooting Master Mega. Her special finishes charging. She does a Splashdown. Master Mega dives into the ink.)

Shiver-Ugh, stop embarrassing me, Master!

(She flings a wheel of ink at them.)

Shiver-They were going to make his stage name Big Manta before I convinced them to change it.

Spider-Can I shoot them from here?

(He starts firing at Master Mega.)

Shiver-I specifically remember our agent saying, "This Mantar is going to make us millions!" Why does it matter if he's a Mantar?

(SHUMI throws YANGHAI on the floor. Master Mega charges onto the arena.)

Inkura-Oh, we really do just shoot them.

(She shoots Master Mega until SHIVER falls off.)

Mikado-Look! Shiver fell off!

Shumi-That's what I'll be saying when she loses the next Splatfest!

(She shoots SHIVER in the face.)

Marie-Good work!

(SHIVER respawns on Master Mega's head. She gets back in her saddle.)

Shiver-You're pretty tough...for an appetizer. Master!

(She pokes Master Mega on the head.)

Shiver-I need you to REALLY focus this time, okay?

(Master Mega flops onto the arena.)

Shiver-Attaboy, Master Mega! Let's FINish this!

(Master Mega dives back into the ink.)

Shiver-That doesn't even begin to describe what they've done to me and Frye.

(She flings another wheel of ink at them, hitting BRIDGETT.)

Shiver-These translucent shirts weren't our choice.

(She steers Master Mega to the left.)

Shiver-Also, we started as a duo, but when our debut flopped, they acted like it never happened and like our debut with Big Man was when we really started.

(She flings another wheel of ink.)

Shiver-Frye wrote that song to cheer me up when I BLINDED MYSELF IN ONE EYE, and they threw it out!

(Pillars of ink shoot out of the moat. Master Mega rides up one of them.)

Shiver-With the money we've made from our endeavors, we're going to create our own record label where we call the shots and NO ONE WILL BOSS US AROUND AGAIN!

Spider-So it is the money!

(Master Mega jumps from pillar to pillar. The agent try to follow it. Then it shoots a jet of ink out of its mouth.)

Bridgett-Beam attack?! Are you insane?!

(She throws a bomb into Master Mega's mouth. It blows itself onto the arena.)

Marie-Ink it now before it gets away!

(BRIDGETT does a Splashdown. Then she drops a bomb. INKURA shoots Master Mega while it wriggles back into the moat.)

Shiver-We'll shred you this time for sure!

(BRIDGETT throws another bomb. She shoots Master Mega some more before it dives back in. SHIVER sends an ink wheel straight at her face.)

Bridgett-Ow.

(She shoots Master Mega a couple more times. SHIVER steers Master Mega to the left. BRIDGETT throws another bomb and misses. SHIVER sends another ink wheel at them. BRIDGETT throws another bomb, but it bounces off. INKURA shoots Master Mega a couple times before it goes up one of the pillars. It bounces from pillar to pillar.)

Shumi-You just gonna bounce around like that?

(Master Mega shoots a jet of ink out of its mouth.)

Bridgett-Eat up!

(She throws a bomb into Master Mega's mouth. It jumps onto the arena. She shoots Master Mega a couple times. SHIVER falls off.)

Marie-She fell off again! Let her have it!

Bridgett-Hey, Shiver. How are ya? Big fan.

(She shoots SHIVER in the face.)

Mikado-Nice work, Agent 8!

(SHIVER respawns on Master Mega's head. She collapses as soon as she's out of the spawn pad.)

Shiver-Ow...I think that's enough of a lesson for today, but you haven't seen the last of Deep Cut.

(She takes out a smoke bomb.)

Shiver-Until next time.

(She drops the bomb.)

Shiver-Huh? OH N--

(The bomb explodes. She and Master Mega can be seen flying away. A vault at the back of the arena opens. A plank extends out of it with a collection of huge blades on it.)

Inkura-It's the grand prize!

(They get on a launchpad in the middle of the arena. They launch onto the plank.)

Marie-It wasn't Keiso. So frustrating! Guess we'll just take this as a consolation prize.

(Commercial break. Fade to site 4. The agents are standing with MIKADO and MARIE at the pipe leading to site 5. They have the blades with them.)

Marie-Good work, agents. I mean, we didn't find Keiso, but we found another "treasure." That's something!

(Just then, ksssh-kssh! Kssssssht! They hear a transmission from MARIE's communication device.)

Keiso-(voice-only) Do you read me? Come in!

Mikado-Keiso's on the line! Hellooo, Keiso!

Keiso-Oh! Mikado! Good to hear your voice. I'm, uh...still locked in some kinda room. Finding the exit is like looking for a needlefish in a coral reef!

(Footsteps can be heard through the communication device.)

Keiso-OH! I mean, (whispering) I better shout-whisper! Someone's coming!

Voice-Ah, you've woken from your hibernation, have you, HOZAKARA?

Keiso-Hmph! That's Agent 4 to...whoever you are! Who ARE you, anyhow? Identify yourself!

Voice-Grrrahahaha! You're lively for a 21-year-old bag of...does your species even have bones? Anyway, you can call me Mr. Grizz.

Shumi-WHAT?

(The transmission starts to cut out.)

Keiso-...izz? (Ksss-ksssh!) ...know any Grizz... (Kss-ksssh!) ...mister or otherwise?

(KSSSSSHT! The transmission ends.)

Shumi-What?

Mikado-Nooo! It was getting so good! Keiso? Are you still there? Argh! I think we lost him, but we'll find him for real if we keep tracking the signal. That's all you, agents. Let's go!

(She and MARIE walk away.)

Shumi-Mr. Grizz? What the heck is Mr. Grizz doing here?

Inkura-Well, we're moving on to site 5! Very exciting! Here we go!

(They jump into the pipe. Pan across it as they swim through.)

Marie-What did they even DO with these pipes?

Mikado-I hope your pockets aren't filled with receipts from Man-o'-Wardrobe or something.

(The agents come out the other end of the pipe. INKURA takes some receipts out of her pockets. They're soaked in ink.)

Inkura-But they are!

Mikado-You've made it pretty far, huh? Looks like you can get to another site from there.

(Pan to another pipe to the right.)

Marie-That pipe must be the way back. Hm...still no response from Keiso. Figures.

Mikado-Well, let's see what we can find here. Good luck!

(The agents walk to the right.)

Shumi-Also, Mr. Grizz is holding Keiso? Isn't that a little bizarre?

(They find a kettle. BRIDGETT opens it.)

Spider-What's got you so hung up on Mr. Grizz?

Shumi-He's keeping me from my family and my friends. Of course I'm hung up on him.

(They dive in. Cut to the antechamber of site 5-9. They land on the middle circle. SHUMI, SPIDER, and INKURA step out of the way. The equipment circle comes up around BRIDGETT. It equips her with a Splat Brella. They walk up to the door, and it launches them to the start.)

ORCA-Cut through the fog and find the goal!

Shumi-Fog is right. How are we supposed to see anything in here?

(They see the silhouette of a Sniper in front of them.)

Marie-Is that...an Octosniper?

(BRIDGETT runs up to the Sniper. It's facing away. It turns around.)

Mikado-It's turned around! Now's your chance!

(BRIDGETT splats it.)

Bridgett-Dummy.

(They swim down a ramp. Ahead is an Octopod facing away. It turns around and charges towards them. BRIDGETT starts shooting it.)

Bridgett-Hang on hang on hang on hang on!

(SPIDER starts firing at it. BRIDGETT opens her shield. SPIDER splats the Octopod.)

Spider-Woo!

(They swim up to a chain-link gate that's slightly open. There's a Trooper on the other side turned around.)

Mikado-Nice gate! It's both inviting AND ominous!

(BRIDGETT splats the Trooper with one shot. They swim through the gate. They find another Trooper above some boxes. BRIDGETT splats it.)

Bridgett-The Brella is an excellent weapon. I don't know what you're talking about.

(She breaks a box. Inside are some Tenta Missiles.)

Marie-Bad visibility and Octosnipers. Ugh, what a combo!

(BRIDGETT fires the Tenta Missiles at some Copters that happen to be there. She splats one Copter personally while the others are taken out by missiles.)

Bridgett-The Brella rules, dude!

(They run to the end of the platform. BRIDGETT breaks a couple boxes.)

Bridgett-They're the best weapons in the League.

(INKURA inks up a wall to the left, and they swim up. They stop on a grate while INKURA inks up the rest of the wall. They swim to the top and run up a ramp. Some Copters can barely be seen ahead of them. BRIDGETT gets right up in front of them and splats two. A third one rockets out of the way. As she tries to hit them, SHUMI snipes two with rockets. BRIDGETT breaks a box with more Tenta Missile launchers in it. She splats the last Copter. They turn right and find two Bombers. The Bombers start throwing bombs. BRIDGETT swims away.)

Spider-What are you doing? Use the missiles!

(BRIDGETT swims forward and starts firing at one of the Bombers. She splats it. A bomb lands next to her. It hurts her when it blows up. SPIDER sighs and splats the other Bomber.)

Marie-Ha! Take that!

(They swim forward. The path narrows. They turn right. They run up a ramp.)

Shumi-Where are we supposed to go next? I can't see anything!

(They meet a wall.)

Inkura-I think I know.

(She inks up the wall, and they swim up. There's another wall in front of them.)

Inkura-Oh, great.

(She inks up that wall, and they swim up. There are two boxes in front of them.)

Bridgett-Boxie!

(She shoots the boxes, revealing a Trooper hanging from the ceiling.)

Bridgett-Oh my Gods, what have I done?

(She splats the Trooper. Another Trooper pops up from the ink. SHUMI shoots it. They swim through a grate. There are two blocks to the right. INKURA inks up one, and they swim up. There's a box on the grate between them. BRIDGETT breaks it. Inside is a Triple Inkstrike launcher. She tries putting it on but realizes she has the Tenta Missiles.)

Bridgett-When did I get these?

(SPIDER sighs and takes the Triple Inkstrike launcher. INKURA inks up another wall, and they swim up to find the floor completely covered in purple ink.)

Mikado-Ew! It's totally soaked!

Spider-It's twister time!

(He throws the Triple Inkstrike markers at some Copters in the back. The Inkstrikes come flying out of the launcher, splatting all but two of the Copters.)

Marie-Those Octarians don't miss anything, do they?

(BRIDGETT tries inking a path to the right for them to swim through. She gets up close and splats the last two Copters. She finds two Troopers behind them. She splats one. The other starts firing.)

Spider-Hold on. I got this.

(He fires at the Trooper, splatting it. There's a third Trooper up ahead and a slightly open gate behind it.)

Mikado-I'm pretty sure we came through these gates earlier.

Spider-Nah. You must be crazy!

Zaki-Don't you have a doctor's appointment to go to?

(The Trooper starts firing at BRIDGETT. She runs back to reload.)

Spider-(grumbling) It's scheduled for three days from now.

Marie-I had a bad feeling about this. Be careful up ahead.

(BRIDGETT pops back up. The Trooper starts firing at her again. She jumps to the side and splats it. She inks ahead, and they swim through the gate. There are walls on either side, each with a sprinkler on it. BRIDGETT breaks one. INKURA breaks the other. There's an oversized Octopod charging towards them. SPIDER starts firing at it while walking backward. It eventually blows up when it hits the gate.)

Spider-Aw, dangit.

(They swim up a ramp. There's a Sniper up ahead. It turns around and sees them.)

Bridgett-Oh, geez! I didn't see him!

(She splats the Sniper.)

Mikado-Nice!

(They run to the goal. SHUMI throws YANGHAI at the pen, aligning it, and shoves it in.)

ORCA-Mission complete!

(Fade to Deep Cut's apartment. SHIVER enters and slams the door behind her. FRYE peeks out of her bedroom door.)

Frye-What happened?

Shiver-I tried taking the second treasure, but then those stupid kids beat me to it! They even banged up Master Mega.

Frye-Hey, maybe it wasn't meant to be.

Shiver-What? Wasn't meant to be? Do you not want to get out of here?

Frye-Not really.

Shiver-Then why are we even doing this?

Frye-Look, I know you want to find a new company, but--

Shiver-Find a new company?

(She walks to the window.)

Shiver-I can't trust any of the companies out there anymore. We're going to start a new company.

(FRYE joins her.)

Frye-What's the big rush? Us, we're living in luxury. We have a top-floor two bedroom apartment. There are people who have nowhere to live! Do you really think we need the money more than them?

Shiver-You're saying you'd rather wear the translucent shirts than watch people suffer?

Frye-That's what I've been telling you! And for your information, I like the translucent shirts.

Shiver-Frye, you gotta understand: they can't just put a layer of cellophane over us and claim they haven't dressed us so that people can ogle at our bodies. You can't let them use you as their pawn.

Frye-Are you trying to convince me that I'm the victim here?

(SHIVER grabs her arm.)

Shiver-Remember "Til Depth Do Us Part." Remember how many nights you spent hunched over that desk writing that song. Remember how many times you looked over your shoulder to see me sitting on the bed moping with a bandage over my eye. And then remember when Mr. Wami said, "Well, that didn't sell well. Let's do your debut over again"! Frye, don't you get it? They don't care about us!

(FRYE shakes her arm out of SHIVER's grasp.)

Frye-Yeah, we've had our road blocks, but I'm not going to pretend that our problems are worse than those of people who don't have food to eat.

Shiver-They don't have food to eat? Well, I don't have an eye to see with.

(FRYE gets into SHIVER's face.)

Frye-It's been four years! You can't keep whining about your bad eye!

(SHIVER gets into FRYE's face.)

Shiver-You wouldn't be saying that if you had a bad eye!

Frye-Well, maybe I'd be sad about not having depth perception, but I'm not going to act like I'm more important than the lower class like some people.

(SHIVER steps back.)

Shiver-Excuse me?

Frye-No, I won't. Every word you say is making you sound like a selfish jerk, and if you don't promise to help me give the money to the poor, then I'm out.

Shiver-Fine. Then I'll be free to raise the money for the new company.

Frye-By yourself?

Shiver-What?

(FRYE crosses her arms.)

Frye-I'm not going to help you with the new company. Not until you agree to make some donations.

Shiver-You're really willing to let Deep Cut split up over this?

Frye-You never wanted to be in Deep Cut!

Shiver-And I won't be alone. I'll have Big Man with me. Right, Big Man?

(BIG MAN comes out of his room.)

Big Man-You called?

Shiver-Yeah. You're gonna help me start the new company, right?

Big Man-Sure.

Shiver-Sure? What do you mean, sure?

Big Man-If that you want what is.

Shiver-So you don't actually care about how this company is mistreating us.

Big Man-Mistreating?

Shiver-You didn't know that they just added you to the group to make money?

Big Man-No! They me myself be let.

Frye-See, Shiver? You're all alone here. You're the only one perceiving some sort of grievance. I'm not surprised the girl with one eye can't see that this company isn't the worst of our problems here. If you're willing to leave, then it'll just be you. There'll be no more Deep Cut.

(SHIVER growls.)

Shiver-Frye, this isn't about the group. This is about our friendship.

(She grabs onto FRYE's shoulder and pushes her towards the wall.)

Shiver-Don't you remember that you were the one who waited with me for the ambulance after I jabbed my eye? You and I have been best friends for years, and the fact that you're willing to throw that all away shows that you're an UNGRATEFUL LITTLE BRAT!

(FRYE gasps. BIG MAN looks increasingly concerned.)

Shiver-Listen here, and listen well. We are going to take that last treasure, we are going to sell it, and we are going to make our own company, and if you dare try to take any of those funds for your little philanthropy crusade...

(She draws her fist back. BIG MAN runs up behind her.)

Shiver-I'm going to give you a taste of your own medicine...

(BIG MAN turns around and closes his eyes tight.)

Shiver-And kick you RIGHT TO THE--
