A short figure cloaked in shadows pulled a large dust-covered tome from a shelf of a bookcase. They turned around revealing for some reason there was a picture of a person with a fish head. The book was titled

The Journey of Joyboy.

???: "Long ago in the Demon Realm, a fantastic species known as Titans roamed free. Until one day when they all vanished, leaving only the archipelago formed from one of their skeleton's that the locals named The Boiling Isles."

The figure read from the book aloud, his voice sounded young, and he couldn't be any older than four or five. The boy had jet-black hair that stopped just above his neck,  his iris being the same color. His name is Y/n L/n.

The boy continued to read about a boy from before the time of the Emporer and how witches used to threaten the human world until humans started to study their magic and took the fight to their homes.

Y/n: "And with that, the witch hunters of the time learned their own magic Haki? Whatever the heck that means."

Lilith: "Y/n!! Where are you? You are going to be late for training!"

Y/n slammed the book closed before running to the nearby window. He quickly leaps onto the balcony, quickly climbing into his room he hides the book under a pile of clothes in his closet.

Lilith: "You do not need to hide your interests, at least not from me Y/n."

She opened the door and walked in, arms folded behind her back. Noticing exactly what book he had taken she decided to tell him just who that book was from.

Lilith: "I knew it was only a matter of time before that book."

Y/n chuckled to himself as he pulled the book back out.

Lilith: "What's so funny?"

Y/n: "The way you said that Miss Lilith, you always sound so cryptic when you talk like that and the stuff you talk about is always just, well kinda not a big deal."

She was about to retort but she realized he was right. She sat down on a spare chair next to the boy's desk.

Lilith: "Well considering that was a gift from your mother, I would have had to show it to you eventually."

Y/n's face grew sad, before instantly switching back to his trademark smile.

Y/n: "Maybe it can explain how my father got here!"

The child's enthusiasm was infectious, and Lilith being the history fanatic (nerd) she was, she was eager to study the text with him.

Lilith: "How about we don't train for today, you seem way more interested in the book anyway."

Y/n: "YES! Thanks, mo.. cough ..Miss Lilith thank you."

Y/n immediately turned his attention to the book, not noticing the mile-wide smile on his teacher's face.

The two spent hours studying the book until Lilith was summoned for a mission. Y/n decided to continue without her, he lost himself in the process he was only broken out of his trance when he felt a hand on his shoulder.

Y/n: "Ahh! Oh good morning Raine."

Raine Whispers, the nonbinary head of the Bard Coven and one of the only coven heads Y/n actually likes.

Raine: "Y/n the sun is going to set in a few hours. Have you been in here all day?"

Y/n: "Noooo..."

Y/n's stomach gave him away, as it growled loud enough for them to hear.

Raine: "Y/n, you need food."

Y/n: "No I'll be fine I'll just eat uh, this apple!"

Y/n then did a double take realizing the apple he had planned to eat that morning was already eaten, by himself.

Y/n: "Ah man."

Y/n was slumped over in his chair his face cloaked in an indescribable sadness, he clenched the fruit like it stole his lover or money.

Raine stifled a laugh at the kid's antics, shortly after they offered to eat dinner with Y/n since Lilith wouldn't be back until the next day.

The two left for the nearest town since the food in the castle was never appealing to the witches.

The witch and the hybrid returned after two hours, ready to take it easy for the rest of the day.

Y/n: "So you can change the chemical composition of a liquid just by whistling into it? That sounds cool as sh"

Raine: "Language! Who taught you that word?"

Y/n: "Kikimora."

Raine: Oh why am I not surprised?"

Raine looked at Y/n who seemed a little confused, then they remembered Y/n wasn't just short he was a child.

Raine: "Actually Y/n do you know what chemical composition means?"

Y/n: "No... I'm sorry."

Raine: "You don't have to apologize. I can teach you some non-combat.... well anything really, all you need to do is let me know ahead of time."

Y/n: "That would be awesome, how about."

Lilith: "How about next week, since we are going on a training trip."

Y/n and Raine jump back startled by her sudden appearance, Lilith explained that Y/n was assigned to a mission with Lilith that would last around a week. With that, Y/n said goodbye and goodnight to Raine who wished him luck on his trip.

Y/n entered his room and took a look at the book he noticed there seemed to be a new language on the further pages of the book along with scribbled translations.

The title of the new section was Poneglyph and at the end of the book were coordinates, Y/n decided that that was where his next week would be spent. Thankfully Lilith agreed to train in that area, as well as let Y/n bring the book.

Y/n and Lilith left the next morning on Lilith's staff, as the two approached the area Y/n felt a wave of energy pulse through him. He tried to take his mind off of it.

Y/n: "Thank you again, for letting me choose the training location Miss Lilith."

Lilith: "Don't thank me, you deserve this."

Y/n looked down as he felt another pulse this time accompanied by a strange sound.

Y/n: "Did you hear that?"

Lilith: "I didn't hear anything."

The two of them land in a nearby clearing, they set a perimeter and get a general lay of the land. The entire day Y/n kept feeling and hearing whatever was around earlier, it got to a point that it was giving him a splitting headache, Lilith obviously noticed.

Lilith: "Y/n are you alright."

She sat next to the boy who clutched his head in his hands.

Y/n: "I don't know. I've been hearing and feeling this energy for the entire day, it sounds like it's coming from the east. I'm about two seconds from going to look for the source myself."

His voice was pained and shrill. Lilith felt a strange new emotion boil up inside her. She felt as if every fiber of her being needed to do something anything to help her so...

Y/n: "THATS IT IM SICK OF THIS SHI!" 

Lilith: "Y/n! If this magic is causing this much of an issue then we should investigate it, let's get searching."

Y/n smiled the best he could and stood up grabbing his bag that held his book. 

The two of them hiked down toward the source of the magical energy. With each step taken, the sound became louder and the pulse more frequent and intense. It got to the point where Lilith could feel it, but as they got closer to their goal Y/n noticed something. 

Y/n: "They're getting further and further out of sync?" 

Lilith: "Do you think they may come from different sources?" 

Y/n: "I can't think of any other solution. We should be close the sound is the loudest it's been." 

SMACK

Y/n walked straight into a massive stone cube. 

 The impact caused his nose to start bleeding, but the sound stopped, which was a major plus in his eyes. Y/n steps back and immediately recognizes the marking he reaches into his bag and pulls out the book.

Y/n: "So this is a Poneglyph." 

Lilith: "A what? "

Y/n: "A Poneglyph, there uh..... well I really don't know what they are but I do have a way to translate the writing!" 

Lilith held a look of skepticism on her face until Y/n flipped to the middle of the book with several symbols that completely matched the carvings on the red stone. 

Y/n began to read the carvings as Lilith sat with a notebook in hand to write down everything  Y/n said. 

Y/n read off the block. 

Y/n: "The power of haki is a witch hunter's greatest weapon. It allows a hunter to counter all the devilish magic witches are given by, alright that's wrong." 

Lilith: "What did it say?" 

Y/n: "It said witches make deals with this ancient evil being to use their magic but, like we all have a bile sack, how can you develop a "counter" to our magic if you don't fully understand it?!"

Lilith: "That's so incredibly stupid." 

Y/n continues to read but notices that there is another writing on the stone. 

Y/n: "These texts are wrong their magic comes from an organ on their heart, and the best way to kill a witch is......" 

Tears began to stream down Y/n's face Lilith noticed and glared at the area Y/n had previously read from and continued to read it for him. 

Lilith: "The best way to kill a witch is to get into their heart, make them think you love them then strike when the time is right." 

At the end of the writing was the signature, F/n L/n.

Lilith: "Y/n."

Lilith reached out for the boy before he stood up and approached the Poneglyh his expression and demeanor shifting back to his neutral state.

Y/n: "Miss Lilith?"

Lilith: "Yes Y/n?"

Y/n: "I'm going to show that 'monster' Ill 

The boy was about to leave but he noticed more of his father's writing in the book. 

Y/n: "According to an ancient myth there is a third type of haki only an unholy combination of witches and humans can access the witches call it Conquerers Haki, we call it The Devil's Will. I plan on creating an heir that I can use to end these monsters." 

He noticed several dates all years apart all with different names the final entry was his mother's name Portgas D. Rouge. Y/n couldn't hold it in anymore. 

Y/n: "YOU STUPID FUCKING BASTARD!"

Y/n released a wave of energy powerful enough to cause Lilith to fall to her knees. Y/n ran up and punched the Poneglyph causing his fist to bleed and causing the stone to split down the middle, revealing that the inside was hollow.

Y/n looked inside and found something growing in the red stone along with more symbols. The energy that was pulsing earlier stopped as he entered.

Y/n: "To those fortunate enough to find this, I am sorry." 

Y/n followed the carvings with his eyes.

Y/n: "My name is Edward Newgate, and I was a witch hunter from the human realm and we were wrong. These people are innocent not devil worshipers, I tried to tell the others but they sealed me inside the Poneglyph. I chose to take my own life in atonement, I will leave behind a form of magic that only a hybrid can use."

Y/n: "A Devil Fruit."

And with that Y/n picked up the fruit and bit into it before feeling a massive eruption of heat all throughout his body, followed shortly by a massive stomach ache due to the horrid taste of the fruit.

Lilith peered into the area before she could say or ask anything she noticed Y/n didn't have a shirt on and his back had a strange tattoo on it. Suddenly he burst into flames, scaring the life out of her.

Y/n turned around to face her an ear-to-ear smile adorning his face before leaping into the air and engulfing himself in flames.

Y/n lands back on the ground before walking toward his teacher.

Y/n: "Miss Lilith?"

Lilith, still more than a little confused, snaps her eyes up.

Lilith: "Yes Y/n." 

Y/n: "Can we start training?"

Lilith doesn't answer, she summons her staff and gets into a fighting stance.

Lilith: "Shall we begin?" 

Y/n: "Yes we shall!"
