12. Flying Birds

The sun was shining and my eyes were wide open. I remembered that his arms were around me and quietly slipped from his hold.

I showered and changed into my Slytherin uniform before writing a note for Draco, letting him know I left. I grabbed my wand and slipped on my boots before making my way out.

I found myself in the quiet halls as the sun was just waking up, I was going to the Great Hall for a quick fill of food before making amends.

Grabbing an apple for later I walked up three flights of stairs before reaching the door. I sighed and let out a breath before I knocked only for it to open.

*ahem*

"To what do I owe this pleasure, Miss?" I walked in and met her face, and I wanted to punch her. I wanted to destroy her, but I thought of something better.

"Grindelwald, Professor Umbridge, Scarlett Grindelwald." Her eyes widened and a cynical smile etched across her face.

"Ahh, I see. How is your uncle?"

I rolled my eyes but put on a smile, "I wouldn't know, since you helped put that monster into holding at MACUSA. But I am not here to talk about him, I want to talk about me."

"Well, then sit dear, sit." She stood and offered me the seat before her as she walked around her desk to sit across from me.

"Professor, you see, I can tell you dislike Harry Potter, I was at his hearing. And I would like to apologize for any inconvenience of being his witness."

She tilted her head and let out a small giggle before responding, "No worries, dear. But whoever sent those dementors, is a genius is all I'll say."

I laughed internally as I only nodded before speaking, "So you see, Potter believes that I am an ally per se... He believes that I can be trusted so I offer you a deal. Because I already know that there will be precautions, I want immunity from any punishments if you allow me to assist and aide Potter in whatever he may do."

As she was about to interrupt I quickly spoke again, "I will not help him complete the problem nor am I against the ministry, I only ask that you trust me."

The professor stood from her seat and walked back to behind her desk as she thought. "Well, of course. It'll be good to have someone to trust within the school grounds."

"Will you prove to me that I can trust you?" She gave me a curious glance but soon nodded, "Take my mark."

She thought for a moment then nodded, "Is this anything like a dark mark?"

"No, you see mine is more to just prove a loyalty. It's just a rose. It looks similar to a small tattoo. Barely visible."

She nodded then held out her arm. Yet again I only glanced at her palm and the rose appeared shooting pain down her arm.

She shivered in pain before standing tall again, "I am trustworthy Miss Grindelwald, and very resourceful."

Soon enough a smile etched upon her face once more as she stood to shake my hand.

I met her eye and refused her hand as she pouted but quickly nodded letting me leave.

"Farewell, Professor, I will see you in a few minutes," I smirked as I shut the door behind me ridding myself of her half-blood stench.

I let out a deep breath and continued to walk towards the DADA classroom soon finding a spot at a back table.

I was early so I pulled out some work and did it whilst waiting for others.

Soon enough the rest of the class came in and the chair beside mine was taken fast enough.

"Why did you leave?" I turned to meet the blonde boy who pouted.

I ruffled his hair before turning back to my work, "I left you a note, didn't you get it?"

"I did, Scar, but you weren't very clear. You said, 'I'm going to sort stuff out.' What's that supposed to mean?"

I laughed and put my stuff away, "Dragon. Don't you trust me?"

He sighed and nodded, "Of course I trust you, Scar. Curious is all." I rolled my eyes and he soon rested his head on the desk waiting for class to start.

The rest of the students had filed in but no professor. The students took advantage of this, of course, so one of the girls up at the front folded a small bird and charmed it to fly.

It went around the classroom and soon everyone was trying to either hit it or make it go higher. I wore a small smile as I watched the bird fly, it had its freedom

The paper figure came my way and I reached my hand over my head to catch it. The moment the bird made contact with my skin, it changed its shape.

It was no longer a plain and small bird but it was now the shape of a bigger white sparrow.

I let the bird go as It then flew over the lights circling the ceiling, making constant flips.

Just as the bird was taking one last fell swoop, it shriveled and was ripped to pieces midair. And as if on cue the pink witch showed up.

"Good morning, children." I nudged Draco and he sat up confused as I ruffled his hair again, only for him to scowl in attempt to fix it.

As the professor walked further in, the class fell silent, soon enough she used her wand and began to write on the board.

"Ordinary Wizarding Level examinations. O, W, Ls, or more commonly known as OWLS," she looked around the classroom with a devilish smile, "Study hard and you will be rewarded, fail to do so, and the consequences may be severe."

She smiled as she magically placed a book on each of our desks. I picked up the book and read the title, Dark Arts Defence: Basics for Beginners.

Draco turned to me and his face was cringed but I kept my calm and waited for her to continue.

"Your previous instruction in this subject has been disturbingly uneven. But you'll be pleased to know, from now on you will be following a carefully structured, ministry-approved course of defensive magic." Then know-it-all Granger shot her hand into the air, "Yes?"

"There's nothing in here about using defensive spells?"

"Using spells? Well, I can't imagine why you would need to use spells in my classroom."

Then Ron decided to chime in, "We're not going to use magic?"

"You'll be learning about defensive spells in a secure, risk-free way."

"What use is that?" Harry was now the one to jump in, "If we're going to be attacked, it won't be risk-free."

Umbridge was growing irritated and turned from the class, "Students will raise their hands when they speak in my class."

She soon stood on the little ledge and faced the class again, "It is the view of the ministry that a theoretical knowledge will be sufficient to get you through your examinations which, after all, is what school is all about."

Harry wasn't letting it off as he spoke again, "And how's theory supposed to prepare us for what's out there?"

"There is nothing out there, dear. Who do you imagine wants to attack children like yourself?"

"Oh, I don't know, maybe Lord Voldemort," he spoke as if it were obvious, but I knew what was coming and I only braced myself.

Then just like that, there was silence, only the sound of a dropped quill was heard as everyone looked to Umbridge for a response.

She then took a breath before walking forward slowly, "Now, let me make this quite plain. You have been told, that a certain dark wizard is at large once again. This. Is. A. Lie."

"It isn't a lie! I saw him, I fought him!" Harry started as she turned back around to the front again.

"Detention, Mr. Potter."

"So according to you, Cedric Diggory dropped dead of his own accord?"

She spun on her heel to face us again, "Cedric Diggory's death was a tragic accident."

"It was murder! Voldemort killed him! Scarlett was there, tell her please!"

He turned to me pleading as did everyone else amusingly. I stood and faced Umbridge, whose face soon lit upon realization recalling our conversation from earlier.

I met her eyes and nodded, "It's undeniable that Harry holds true to his words. And yes, I was there during the event but what happened is now of the past, it can't be changed though it does have an impact on the present." Harry thanked me with a nod as I turned to Umbridge again.

"And as he said, it wouldn't do us any good to not be practicing the use of magic." I finished taking my seat as Harry continued.

"As she confirmed, he is back and he is com-"

"Enough! Enough. See me later, Mr. Potter. My office." She gave a giggle and soon assigned us reading chapters.

I had already read the book before and so I mostly just drew shapes all over Draco's arm as he reread the book for himself.

Then before I knew it class was over and we were off to our next lesson.
