Chapter 4 Dust

Rwby woke up. She saw someone sneeze. She did the same. Too bad it was dust the grime fed off of because it was almost everywhere.

She smiled. If it was dust they wanted then dust they shall get. She picked up some dust and threw it at one of the grime. It snorted at it and grinned.

Strange she never remembered the grime smiling before now.

She charged at it and so did the others. The rest time was up for the moment.

The grime fight was a busy one as usual. There were more of them than there were of the Huntresses and their friends.  The grime snorted more dust.

Dust was the source of energy that fueled everything, but it was the grime's source of life.

Nora hit one and it fell without much of a fight. It died at her feet and she looked at it surprised. "Wow, good job, Nora!" Ren cheered on.

The others cheered for each other as they defeated more grime and the dust began to clear up.

As the dust cleared away, they could see more people enter the museum.  A few paid no attention to the grime and others ran off screaming. The ones who seemed to pay them no mind were the ones who were swallowed the fastest.

Rwby jumped and landed on the back of the flying grime. It was quite a feat to achieve as the shortest one of the group and the youngest one. She smiled. No wonder the others allowed her to be the leader.

Weiss started to sweep. She noticed as she did a few grime vanished. She did not know what caused this reaction. How very out of the ordinary, she thought.

Yang charged at one and threw herself full force at it. The thing burst into tiny particles before her eyes.

Blake used her whip to tie one up, and soon it burst into flames. The flames turned into ash which became dust. How on earth did that happen?

"I believe the answer is obvious,"  Juane said.

"Oh, what might that be John?" Pyrrha asked.

"The dust particles appear after the creatures are defeated because that is the component they are mostly made up of anyway so it is only natural they should return to that state upon their defeat," Juane said.

The others look at him amazed. Sun glares at him annoyed. He does not like the attention Juane is getting from the girls. He is a bit of a flirt for one so young.

Sun wraps an arm around Blake and grins at her. She shrugs him off. Why can't he see she is not interested?

The few grime that remain head off in another direction. No one knows what made them go that way or why there appears to be less dust now than at the beginning of the fight.

The friends smile. All in a day's work, they thought.
