Evan hadn't spoken to anyone in a week. Barty was beginning to get worried.

Regulus suspected it was another one of Evan's episodes, triggered by Pandora's absence. And it very well could have been, but Barty sensed there was something else going on.

Evan hadn't attended any classes since he came back from being home. Every day, Barty grew increasingly more worried about him.

Barty and Regulus had been bringing Evan his homework (which one of them ended up doing for him), and didn't tell him anything about Pandora.

Pandora had been hanging out with Lily Evans. Barty had had one conversation with Panda, and it ended up with Barty and Pandora standing outside Barty's dorm, hesitating to go in.

Barty chased after Pandora after their potions class was let out.

"Panda!" He shouted after her. The blond girl turned around and stiffened when she saw Barty.

"Uhm. Hi" Pandora said in her usual dreamy voice.

"Where the fuck have you been?" Barty asked, embracing her roughly.

"I've been staying with the Evans, because I was kicked out. I figured Evan would have told you..?" Pandora answered, hugging back.

"He said you got kicked out. Does he know where you've been?" Barty asked.

"No. I haven't been able to tell him, seeing as he hasn't been attending his lessons. And I don't have the courage to actually face him" Pandora explained.

"Merlin. Evan is literally falling apart because of your absence. He's not doing his homework, he's not getting out of bed, he's not talking to anyone, like he's mute. He's been wearing the same jumper since he got home! And your excuse is you don't have the courage?" Barty felt his blood boiling. He didn't know it was possible for him to be angry at Pandora, but here he was.

"I-He's been wearing the same jumper? For a week?" Pandora asked, disregarding everything else Barty said.

"Yeah"

"Fuck," Pandora rubbed her eyes, stressed. "It's not one of those sleeveless ones you have, is it?".

"No? It's too big for him, if anything. The sleeves are past his hands"

"Oh fuck, Evan" Pandora muttered to herself. She buried her head in her hands for a moment and then started walking away.

Barty followed her, confused. She walked to the Slytherin common room, and to the boys dorms. She was going relatively quick, but when she reached for Barty's door handle, she just couldn't touch it, let alone turn it and enter.

So now they were here. Barty got sick of standing there, so he turned the handle himself and pushed her in.

"For fucks sakes, Barty. I don't wanna hear you with a random hookup right now" Evan groaned from behind closed curtains. Of course that was the first thing Evan would've said to him after awhile.

"One, that would mean I would be cheating on you. Which I would never do. Two, it's your sister" Barty responded, trying to sound as kind as he could.

Evan went quiet again. After a moment, they heard rustling from his bed. They watched him get up and go into the bathroom.

"Why is there plastic on the door?" Pandora asked.

"It's an uncomfortable story" Barty replied.

Pandora knocked on the bathroom door, and said "Ev. Did you do what I think you did?" Pandora asked. Barty furrowed his brows in confusion. She got no answer.

"What the fuck, Evan?" Pandora slid down the door, her eyes welling up.

"What's going on?" Barty asked. He got no response.

Pandora eventually got up, and left. Barty opened the bathroom door, not bothering to knock. He didn't care what Evan was doing.

When he looked in, Evan was standing in front of the mirror, his sleeve pulled up. Barty stared at the image on Evan's delicate skin.

Evan quickly realized that Barty had seen. He pulled the sleeve back down, and started shouting.

"Get the fuck out! Get out!" He yelled over and over.

Barty was frozen. "Get the fuck out, please!" Evan yelled at him. Barty just stared at Evan's arm, that was now clothed over.

"What the actual fuck, Evan? The dark mark? Seriously?" Barty said. He started lecturing Evan, until he realized that Evan probably didn't have a choice.

He remembered that Evan wouldn't do that if he wasn't forced to. He wouldn't willingly become one of them, would he?

He stopped lecturing him, and left. He walked and walked an walked. His head was swimming with thoughts. He didn't even realize he had ended up at the edge of the lake.

Barty avoided the dorm for the next week. He left before dawn and came back after midnight. He hardly slept. He could only think about how his boyfriend was a Death Eater.

He knew that Reg was destined for it, considering Sirius had been disowned, but he figured Reg would find a way out of it. Or Barty would at least accept it.

Evan having the mark was just different. He didn't expect it. He'd only ever seen the Dark Mark in The Daily Profit, and never in real life. It was scary.

Barty slowly started to grow accustomed to it. He started hanging out with Evan and Regulus again. He and Evan were on rocky terms, which was not at all good for their relationship, but oh well.

Evan always wore long sleeves, like longer shirts and jumpers, which Barty wouldn't have paid any mind to, but since learning what he'd learnt, he couldn't help but notice.

"Barty, can you stop looking at me like that?" Evan asked, angrily, at dinner on Thursday.

"Like what?" Barty asked back, confused.

"Like I'm some evil person? Like I'm not the same guy as before?"

"I'm not looking at you like that"

"You are! And I hate it! Stop!" Evan started shouting. People started looking. Barty started getting very uncomfortable.

"Evan, can you please stop yelling?" Barty asked.

"And that's another thing! You keep calling me Evan, instead of ev or love or y'know, nicknames!" Evan looked on the verge of tears.

"I'm sorry" Barty muttered. He quickly got up and left the hall, confidently. His confidence was fake, he wasn't feeling as hot as he made it out to be. He just didn't want anyone to think he ever felt negative emotions, he had an image to keep up.
