Chapter Twenty-Nine: Every Small Moment

Savannah's prom dress is the picture up there!

"It's prom, it's prom, it's prom," Kyla sang when I opened the front door after she massacred my doorbell.

Under her arm was a huge paper bag that contained her dress and shoes. She was grinning from ear to ear as she grabbed my hand and pulled me inside, dragging me up the stairs.

"It's too early to get ready!" I complained, but my I allowed my feet to follow her.

She dropped off her bags on the floor of my bedroom, before quickly shuffling into the bathroom, "Now how about we start this beauty montage?"

I lifted an eyebrow at her as she showed me the grin of hers, "A beauty montage?"

She shrugged before grabbing most of the beauty products I stored in there before laying them all on my dresser. She went for her huge bag and took out her makeup bag along with a scary amount of hair products, "Between painting our nails, doing our hair, plus our makeup, trust me, there's no such thing as too early."

She pushed me down on the chair and instantly grabbed a comb. Even though I thought that she was acting ridiculous, I smiled as I allowed her to make me into her own doll, knowing she's delighted with all of this.

Plus, I don't have to do too much work in preparing.

I reached out and took the bottle of nail polish that I've selected for the event. Grabbing the other necessary stuff, I started to do my nails as I listened to Kyla's words.

"Congratulations, by the way," she said to me, as I watch her reflection in the mirror pin around my hair.

"I should be the congratulating you," I told her, twisting off the cap of the nail polish and taking out the brush, "I was worried at first, but from the progress I've seen, I think you've done a really good job with the dance."

"Not that," she rolled her eyes, but she still concentrated with what she was doing, "I mean Jasper getting the scholarship."

The brush I was holding slipped out of my hand and fell into the floor. I cringed at the sight of the stain it would probably leave, but I couldn't help but gape at the sudden piece of information.

When Kyla noticed my reaction, she gasped and slapped a hand over her mouth, "Oops."

I wanted to burst into happiness because of how proud I am of him. I suddenly jolted up from my seat and I started to walk to my door, "I have to congratulate him."

"Hold it right there, missy," Kyla commanded, grabbing the back of my shirt to pull me back, "You're not seeing him like that."

I glanced at the mirror and I almost laughed at the sight of my half-done hairstyle that still had a lot of unnecessary pins scattered along the top of my head.

"You'll still see him tonight, go congratulate him later," she said, before pushing me back down on the chair, "I did not waste two hours of watching tutorial videos on youtube for you to run away when I'm not even done yet."

If I value my life, I would just stay still as she dolled me up, because a very determined Kyla Bailey is a very dangerous Kyla Bailey.

I managed to survive through the so-called 'beauty montage' and now I was just waiting anxiously in my dress as I clenched my fist to my side so I wouldn't go biting my nails because of how nervous I was.

Kyla entered the room, twirling in her pretty red dress. She smile up to me, before walking up to the full-length mirror, "This is perfect."

A hand unconsciously went up to feel the stiff curls going down up to my back Kyla approached me and swatted my hand away, "Don't touch my masterpiece."

I laughed at this, before the two of us froze when we heard the doorbell. Even though she was pretty enthusiastic seconds ago, her face slowly broke down into panic. She hurriedly ran to the chair where she left her clutch, but she tripped on the hem of her dress and slowly toppled over, grabbing the edge of my desk to keep herself up.

"Are you okay?" I quickly scrambled up my feet to go after her. She slowly started to stand upright, but I was too focus on making sure I didn't do the same mistake that as she lifted up her head, she hit me right in the chin.

I jerked back quickly, which wasn't really a good idea, before I lost my balance on these stupid high heels that I started falling backwards. She quickly reached out for my hand pulled me with her, but in the end, I dragged her with me to the floor.

"The boys are here," mom suddenly informed, opening the door to my room and finding the both of us crouched down on the floor.

She blinked at us, before casually yelling over to the boys, "They'll be right down."

Releasing a small sigh, she grabbed each of our arms and pulled us up, and helped with the small mess that we made with ourselves after the mishap, "Relax, will you. I bet you girls are more nervous compared to the winter formal."

"In my defense, I never knew Tristan would ask me out," my best friend grumbled, pertaining to the fact that Tristan appeared at her house just minutes before the winter formal to ask her out.

"And the only question I got from Jasper back then was his excuse about saving gas," I spoke.

"Don't be nervous and the boys look spiff, if I might say," she winked, before nudging us to the door, "Now go, my camera's ready."

Oh I would love to skip the picture taking part.

When we got down the stairs, we searched around for them, before mom guided us to the living room where the two of them were occupied in a basketball match with my father.

"If he gets that in within the next minute, they might have a chance," dad observed as the two boys nodded in agreement.

Dad, you're stealing our dates!

Kyla cleared her throat, before announcing, "We're ready!"

"Yeah, three minutes, babe," Tristan waved off, his eyes glued to the tv screen.

We shared a look, before returning our attention to them. Oh seriously?

As if a sudden realization hit them, Tristan and Jasper suddenly jolted up and turned to us, "We're so sorry."

Why can't we have those normal romantic scenes where we come down the stairs and they'll stand in awe? Instead, we have them totally distracted by a basketball game from the television screen.

"We thought you girls were still going to take long so I invited them to watch with me," dad chuckled, turning off the tv, "They looked as every bit of anxious as you were, I couldn't just leave them fidgeting at the front door."

"Sir, please don't tell them that," Jasper suddenly blurted out, before I saw his ears turning red - which, I might add, is completely adorable.

"Now four of your gather by the fireplace," mom commanded, "Your mothers requested that I take enough picture of all four of you."

Just imagine this, all four mothers want to have a picture. Not just any picture, a different set of photos for each of them, so basically, there's no such thing as 'enough'.

Just saying, my mother with a camera is a very deadly thing.

At first, we were alright with the flash turning on every freaking second as we showed them those nice smiles, but soon, our cheeks started to hurt and we were slowly getting blind.

Sending a plea to my dad - who was always the one to stop my mom whenever she goes too far - he dropped a hand on her shoulder, "That's enough, Ariel."

"Alright, you can go ahead," she permitted, before escorting all of us out the door.

A limo was parked right outside my house, though we already knew that these two rented one. It was one of the main reasons why I suggested that Kyla could just stay over at my house so it would be less of a hassle.

Kyla and Tristan went on ahead, but before he could follow them, I reached out and grabbed his wrist. Slowly turning around, he gave me a puzzling look but presented me with a wonderful smile when I showed him the boutonnière that I snatched before we went out the door.

I pinned it on his lapel and when he took out a hand for me to take, I graciously placed mine on top of his and we went to the vehicle hand in hand.

Once we were inside he took the corsage that he left on top of one of the seats and tied it around my wrist, "Perfect."

We caught Tristan and Kyla grinning at from the other side I gave them a questioning stare, "What?"

"Even though it's special for all of us," she muttered, "I think you both know already that I had this prom organized especially because of what happened to you two."

I was lucky to have her. She's a whole package, a quirky and temperamental girl but she is filled with this loyalty and kindness that would take me years to repay.

"Thank you," I said to her, my gratitude and sincerity flowing out from those two words.

When we arrived into the school, we weren't surprised at the amount of people just standing outside, conversing with each other. That, and there was an excessive amount of rented fancy vehicles for the occasion.

"How about you to go on first, we'll be right behind you," Tristan aid, giving us encouraging nod once the four of us were all out of the limo.

"We can't deny them of their request," Jasper gave a lighthearted shrug as he offered his arm, "Are you ready for our trip, my lady?"

Looping my arm around his, we slowly walked towards the school steps. A few students greeted us along the way, but we never actually stopped for a chit chat. We were both thrilled to see what the inside looks like.

It didn't disappoint.

The first thing you'll notice was the huge cardboard pyramids that decorated the entrance of the school. As soon as you stepped in, it was like you were taken into a magic carpet ride by Aladdin.

Different monuments from all over the world lined up the hallway and you can see a whole string of Chinese lanterns on the ceiling.

The only thing I could do was follow Jasper's guide as my eyes were trailing all over the place, trying to sink in every single thing that I saw.

When we entered the gym, my eyes bulged out at the large Eiffel tower replica. It almost reached the ceiling of the gym and speaking of the ceiling, it was a good mixture of white thin cloth and fairy lights.

"So what do you two think?" Kyla suddenly asked, getting in between the two of us, "Better than a trip to Europe?"

I completely surprised her when I released Jasper and threw my arms around her, giving her the hug she deserves.

A sudden flash made us pull apart to see Tristan with his phone, grinning at the picture that he shot, "Got to record these memories."

"Now enough about that, let's dance," Kyla squealed, grabbing her boyfriend's hand and pulling him to the dance floor.

The gym was filled with an upbeat tune since Kyla mentioned that the DJ will be playing the slow songs later on. It was really a good feeling to be jumping around in your heels without feeling the pain because of exhilarating it was.

The first slow song started to play, and of course, everybody scampered around to find their dates. I looked around the dance floor, since I was just dancing along, Jasper and I got separated and my eyes desperately scanned the huge amount of students for him.

Suddenly, somebody grabbed my arm and pulled me to him. Looking up at the culprit, Jasper winked at me, before spinning me around into the usual couple position.

"Kyla did a good job," I said, my gaze couldn't help but glance around the decorations once more.

"We should really thank her," he whispered into my ear so I could hear him through the music, "This is the best."

Somebody tapped my shoulder, making the both of us turn to the person. Tristan was there dancing with Kyla, and he gave us a crooked grin, "Want to switch?"

Once we changed partners, just one look at each other, Tristan and I shared a small laugh, "This is rather nice."

"By the way, I have yet to pay you," he suddenly perked up.

"For what?" I inquired.

"For helping me with Kyla," he answered immediately.

I lifted my hand from his shoulder and slightly gave him a small pat, "Hey, it was a fair trade for that cake you helped me with."

"I'm pretty sure that it wasn't equal at all," he chuckled, "That was just a small moment, what I acquired was something really amazing."

Staring up at him, I gave him a smile. It was true that what Tristan helped me only lasted for a few minutes, considering that after the whole apology scene months ago, we shared the cake with a few others. You would think that he got the bigger end of the stick, but I beg to differ.

"As corny as it sounds, every small moment with Jasper is something really amazing," I explained, "Plus, you made my best friend happy, that itself is a good enough payment for me."

"I'm sorry for hiding my job and our friendship from everyone else before," he apologized, "It was a coward move and I knew how much it will bother Jasper."

"Well, it bothered him a lot," I reminisced. During those times, you would think that the boy was in his man-period.

"I wonder what would have happened if you never became a chef at One-Eighty Degrees," I spoke, "You wouldn't have met Kyla, I wouldn't be friends with you, and I would still be avoiding Jasper like a plague."

"I didn't do much to for your romantic escapade with him, you know," he chuckled.

"I believe that you were," I retorted, "You have as much importance in this love story as anyone is."

"Thanks Savannah," he smiled.

Jasper appeared with Kyla and he turned to Tristan, "Mind if I steal my girlfriend again?"

Tristan released me and went right ahead to Kyla's side. Jasper took my hand and waved them goodbye as he escorted me out of the doors. Looking back, I gave him a questioning look, "Where are we going?"

"We're going to have our summer trip a little bit earlier than planned," he responded with a slight chuckle.

I stared at his back, before letting out a sigh of defeat as I allowed him to drag me alone. If I was given a choice, I would stay like this with him forever.

But we all know that it's impossible for that to happen.

------------

While writing this, I felt nothing but nostalgia from my old prom haha. But next chapter would be a lot cuter, if I might say so myself. This was more on Tristan and Savannah, since we don't get to see their friendship more than we used to.

Question: How do you want this story to end?

And yes, I'm asking that question because we're almost ending. We have the last leg of their prom, their graduation, then a small snap of their summer, before I head on to the epilogue.

I basically just revealed everything, didn't I? Oh well.

I love you guys, don't forget to leave those comments, votes, and follows. See you all next chapter!
