[144] MARIA HILL

maria when she remembers you.

the shield agent held the photo of you and her in her hands. it was a small polaroid, of you and her on your first date.

"maria!" you yelled, wiping the ice cream off of your nose. you both stood out front of the beach, two cones full of ice cream in your hands. the ocean whirred as you laughed, maria letting you rest your head on her shoulder.
"be my girlfriend." you said, looking maria in the eyes.
"i thought you'd never ask." she said, pecking your lips before taking out a polaroid camera. she snapped a quick shot of you both in front of the ocean, smiling widely.

as the tears started to fall from maria's eyes, she put the photo frame down, finding another one similar to it in the box of old things. it was a photo taken out front of the iconic santorini in greece. it was taken by tony, who had snuck in to take the photo.

"thank you for this, maria." you said, holding her hand and flinging it back and forth as you walked along the streets of santorini. you stopped in front of an old building, it was beautiful. the outside was covered in vines and flowers, and it was astonishing. "why are we here?" you asked, not realizing tony was standing across the street from you.
"y/n." she said, kneeling down on her knee. immediately, you began tearing up, pulling your hands in front of your mouth. "from the day i saw you at stark tower, i knew you were the one to spend my life with. your kindness, your generosity, and your humor never cease to amaze me, not to mention how gorgeous you are." maria smiled, taking out a black velvet box from her back pocket. "when you asked me to be your girlfriend on that day, i bought this ring." maria opened the box, and revealed a gorgeous ring of your favorite gemstone. "so, y/n l/n, will you marry me?"
"of course you big sap!"

now, maria had rolling tears staining her cheeks, steve watching from the door as she balled her eyes out, continuing to look at photos.

you stood on the pier of the water, barefoot in your wedding outfit, maria wearing a big white gown that ended at her ankles, not touching the sand.
"do you, maria hill, take y/n l/n, to be your lawfully wedded partner, through sickness and in health, through dark times and not, as long as you both shall live?"
"i do."
"and do you, y/n l/n, take maria hill, to be your lawfully wedded wife,
through sickness and in health, through dark times and not, as long as you both shall live?"
"i do."
"you may now kiss the bride." with that, you pulled maria into a long kiss, hearing the cheers of the few people you invited to the wedding behind you.

maria put the photos back in the box, steve no longer standing at the door frame, but now standing beside her, rubbing her back.
"let's go."
she nodded, getting up, holding the box and slowly walking out of the house with the 'for sale' sign on the front.
