My new life continued happily for three months and during that time I found a map of this new world and learned about elves, faires, goblins, and a few other large monsters that I found interesting. I also over heard one of the maids talking about how awful my "father" the duke, of the Warcrete family, was because he recently raised taxes even higher than before. He also had travelers pay an extra fee for entry. I hate my father and mother. I only need Susan, Maria, Annabelle, and Hailey. I peered our my window at the moon that shined through the glass panes and falling onto my face. I noticed something through the trees surrounding he estate. Something red and orange. I squinted my eyes and realized it was fire. Lots of it. The forest itself wasn't on fire though. It was moving quickly through the trees. I ran out of my bedroom to find the maids and warn them that people with torches were approaching. A lot of people. I checked the storage room. I then checked the main hall. I was running out of time. I looked in their sleeping quarters mentally chastising myself for not checking there sooner. They weren't there. I heard a loud bang as the door was forcefully knocked down. I ran to the library to hide. I crouched under a book shelf frozen in fear. I heard shouts outside but I couldn't convince myself to look. I heard the screams of women and froze. Annabelle, Susan, Maria, Hailey... no! I sat there unable to cry or move from shock, fear, and heartbreak as my maids... no, my family was brutally murdered by the intruders. I heard a man shout that there was nobody left alive in the mansion. Little did they know... I was still here. I guess they overlooked the plain brown doors and didn't even notice they were there. I heard another voice saying they would come back tomorrow with more torches to burn everything since theirs had burned out already. By the sound of it there had been at least 500 men entering the manor and they had killed all the Guards, maids, and other staff workers before killing my mother and father. I realized my mistake when looking for my family... I didn't check the kitchen. I sat under the bookshelf still frozen until I heard everyone leave shouting in victory. What kind of victory could they possibly find in murdering innocent staff!? I started sobbing. I didn't dare look at the aftermath of bodies they left behind so I just sat there crying on the floor. If life hated me so much and hurt the only people who ever cared for me then I would care about anyone. Other lives meant nothing to me now. I wandered to my room no longer able to cry. I surveyed by room that had been turned upside down. I guess they thought one of the maids was staying in here. My clothes lay strewn about but still mostly intact. I searched under my bed until I found what I was looking for, a large brown backpack. I hurriedly stuffed the best travel clothes I could find and other necessities. I needed food... but the kitchen, they were all on the kitchen. I would have to face it if i needed to get food. I slowly walked towards the kitchen with caution and looked at the ceiling. Don't look down, don't look down. The tears streamed down my face knowing that if I looked down I would find the bodies of the only people I ever cared for. I cautiously opened a cabinet and stuffed as many fruits and vegetables I could. Meat would be too frisky since it would attract wild animals. I then remembered the stash of money we kept hidden under one of the stones in the floor in case of an emergency. I slowly looked down still scared. A hand... I saw the hand of Maria... why. More tears were falling down my face as I saw the blood on the floor. I reached for the only stone that had a nearly unnoticeable blue color to it and lifted it up. Underneath sat a small bag of coins. Although there were few coins it was still a lot seeing as they were all gold and silver. I stuffed the bag of coins into my backpack and stared at the ceiling again. It was the only way I would have to see them. I couldn't afford to wait any longer since the sun was rising now. I dashed toward the trees that surrounded the estate. Goodbye Annabelle. Goodbye Susan. Goodbye Hailey. Goodbye Maria. I will miss you all.
