The funeral

(Ellen POV) time jump 1 week

I've been dreading this day for the past few weeks. Patrick has been a huge help, but nothing will ever fill the hole that Chris left. I got out of bed and walked into the bathroom to brush my teeth and get somewhat ready. After I was done, I walked out to the kitchen to see Patrick cooking breakfast for us. "Good morning." He said. "Morning." I said. "I made you eggs and bacon. I know it's not much, but I thought it would help you somewhat." He said. I walked over to him and wrapped my arms tightly around his waist. He did the same and pulled me closer to him, his chin resting on my head. "I'm so sorry El." He murmered. I just nodded against his chest, not feeling strong enough to reply. I pulled away after a minute and dug in to the breakfast he made.

(Patrick POV)

When I woke up on Ellen's couch, I immediately got a call from Shonda. "How is she Patrick?" Shonda asked. "She's not up yet. I'm about to make breakfast for us." I replied while getting up and starting to cook. "Okay. The funeral is at 10 right?" She asked. "Yes. I'll see you there." I said as I ended the call. It's 830 now, so we have about an hour and 15 minutes before we have to go. After Ellen came down, she ate silently. "I'm gonna go change now." She said quietly. I nodded and went to change as well. I went into the guest room and changed into my suit. I brushed my teeth, did my hair, sprayed some cologne and walked out to the kitchen again, not knowing what to do. I decided to quickly call Jill. "Good morning." She greeted. "Hey. The funeral is in about an hour." I said. "How is she?" She asked. "She's not talking much. Are you coming down?" I asked. "Yes, the kids and I will be down here late tonight." She said. "Okay. I'll see you tomorrow then?" I asked. "Yup. Love you." She replied. "Love you too." I said as she ended the call. I decided to go check on Ellen. "El?" I asked as I knocked on her bedroom door and walked in. I saw her just staring at the black dress she picked out. "El, we have to leave soon." I said softly. She just nodded, still staring into space. "El, we have 20 minutes until we have to leave. Let me know if you need help with anything." I said as I left the room.

(Ellen POV)

I can't focus on anything other than the fact that I will be burying my husband today. After Patrick left my room, I somehow got changed into my outfit, which is just a plain black dress that goes down to my knees. I go into the bathroom, get ready, and head downstairs. "You almost ready? We leave in 5." Patrick said. I nodded. Sending my sadness, he came over and hugged me. "I miss him so much." I said into his chest, which is when the first time of many when tears streamed down my face. "I know El. We have to go now, okay?" He said. "Okay." I replied in a shaky voice. Camila has the kids, so we walk out to the car to begin what will be the hardest day of my life.

10 minutes later we pull up to the graveyard. I get out of the car and start walking over to where we will lower him down. "I'm so sorry Ellen. If you need anything, please don't hesidtate to ask. We all love you and we're here for you." Shonda said as she gave me a big hug. "Thank you." I croaked out. After a few more minutes of getting condolences from my friends and family, we begin the service. The kids all eventually made their way over to me. I hold Eli and then Stella and sienna are standing next to me. "We are gathered here today to celebrate the life of Christopher J Ivory, who passed away in a tragic car accident. Chris was an extraordinary young man, with a brilliant mind. He is survived by his wife, Ellen, his 3 kids, Eli, sienna, and Stella. Chris will be dearly missed." The funeral director said. I tuned the rest out, hoping I was dreaming.

"Ellen." Patrick said, snapping me out of my trance. I looked over and saw they were about to lower him into the ground. This is when the tears started pouring, again. Sandra, who got there earlier wrapped her arms around me and I sobbed into her neck. After he was lowered into the ground, people started putting flowers on his grave. I was theist to do so. I grabbed a rose, which was his favorite, and placed it onto his casket in the ground. "I love you so much. I'll take good care of the kids." I whispered as I placed the rose down and walked back. "That concludes today's service. There is a celebration of Chris' life being held at the Louis' Inn for a few hours today, feel free to come." The director said. "Let's go El." Patrick suggested. I let him lead me out to the car, and we drove off.
