Pain

(Patrick POV)

I was awaken by and older gentleman gently shaking my shoulder. "We're here." He said. I nodded and stood up to grab my things. I checked my watch real quick. 5:30am. I jogged through the gate and out of the airport. I called a taxi driver and he was there in minutes. "Hey, I need a ride to Southern California Hospital please." I said. He nodded and took off. I called Shonda again. "I'm in California. I'll be there in about an hour and a half." I said. "Okay. Thank yku for coming Patrick. She's going to need you." She replied. "Of course." I said as I hung up. Luckily, the traffic wasn't too bad, so the ride was pretty quick. I arrived at the hospital at 6:45.

I walked into the hospital and walked up to the front desk. "Chris Ivory. I'm a friend." I said. The nurse led me to his room where I was met with all of my former cast mates. "Patrick." Shonda said as she came up and hugged me. "Hey guys." I said as I greeted everyone with a hug or handshake. "How is she?" I asked. "She's sleeping. You can see her through the window." Jesse replied. I took a step towards the window and it broke my heart. She was sleeping uncomfortably on the couch, and I could easily see the tear tracks coming out of her eyes. I turned around with sad eyes. "Should we wake her? The donation is in an hour. She needs to eat something." I asked. "Yes, that's probably a good idea. Do you want to Patrick?" Camilla asked. "Uh sure." I stuttered as I walked into the room, knowing that everyone was watching through the window.

(Shonda POV)

I was really glad to see Patrick. He greeted everyone. I could see the worry in his eyes. I knew they cared about each other a lot, but Patrick was very worried. I wasn't surprised to hear that flew across the country to be here, I actually expected it. Those two had a very special bond. I knew it was the right thing to call Patrick. He would help her get through it.

(Patrick POV)

I walked over to her on the couch. I gently stroked her face. "Ellie." I whispered. She didn't stir. "Ellie." I said a little louder. Her eyes shot open, trying to focus on soemtning familiar. "It's me Patrick." I said. She nodded and sat up. She looked very disheveled and tired. She looked at Chris and I could see the tears welling up in her eyes. She looked at me and started sobbing uncontrollably. I wrapped my arms around her and just let her cry, knowing that this wasn't the last of the tears. I looked over at the window to see the rest of the cast still there, most of them with tears in their eyes. I just held her for a while. "Do you want to get some food?" I asked. She nodded. I shakily grabbed her hands and pulled her up and made sure she was close to my chest. I knew how to sooth her, after 10 years of working together, we were pretty close. We walked out of the room and past our friends to the cafeteria where we were immediately met with paparazzi. 'This is ridiculous' I thought to myself. This woman is grieving the loss of her brain dead husband, and people are in the hospital taking pictures of it. Security came and immediately cleared them out. "What do you want to eat?" I asked softly. "A salad or sometning small. I domt know if I can eat." She replied. "Okay. You want to stay with me or take a seat?" I asked. "Sit." She said and pulled away from me to find a place for us to sit.

(Ellen POV)

I woke up to Patrick gently shaking my shoulder. Patrick? What is he doing here? I looked over at Chris and started crying again. After sometime, he asked me to eat. We went to the cafeteria and I sat down while he got our food. "Here you go." He said as he put my salad in front of me. I just picked at it. I can't eat. I'm gonna throw it up. "El, just eat a little bit." He urged. I thrusted a few bites in my mouth before pushing the tray away from me. "We have to go back now." I said quietly. He stood up and hugged me. I leant into his warmth. We stood there for a while before I pulled back. "We have to go." I said quietly as I walked back to his room. I walked back and saw everyone. "Hey." I said. "I'm so sorry Ellen." Shonda said as she pulled me into a hug. I nodded and pulled away.

"Ellen? We bringing him into surgery now. You can scrub in if you want." The surgeon said. I nodded and followed them into the scrub room. I knew how to scrub from greys, so I didn't need to say anything. I followed the surgeon into the room and stood in a corner. "Can I just have a minute?" I asked quietly. "Of course." He replied. I walked over to him. "I love you so much Chris. I'll take good care of our babies. Don't worry. You can go. I love you." I said with tears in my eyes. I backed away from the table and let them do their thing. I heard him flatline. "He's gone. We'll give you a moment." The surgeon said. "I love you Chris. I'll see you soon." I whispered. I walked out of the room and scrubbed out. My husband is dead. The love of my life. The father of my children. I walked out towards the waiting room where all my friends were.

(Patrick POV)

She came into the room. "He's uh- he's gone." She whispered, unable to stop the tears. I stood up and gathered her in my arms. This made her completely breakdown. Her legs gave out and she couldn't hold it together anymore. I sat down on the ground with her and held her while she sobbed. "I can't - I can't, he's gone." She yelled. "She's having a panic attack." I said. "It's okay El. Your gonna be okay. I'm with you. Your not alone." I whispered in her ear. This broke my heart to pieces. I kept doing this until she eventually fell asleep in my arms. "What do I do? Should I bring her to my hotel?" I asked quietly. "Probably should. She'll want to be with you." Shonda replied. I nodded and picked her up effortlessly. "I'll call you tonight or tomorrow morning." I told Shonda before I walked out to the rental I got. I opened the passenger seat and gently placed her in the seat and buckled her up. I hopped into the drivers seat and drove off.
