Chapter 6: Superwoman

(Author's Note: Picture of Mason above [You'll know who this is later] if the picture is not visible please let me know.) -Bri*

Brittany's POV:

For the night Ally was assigned to just watch the door outside. Mainly because she was caught talking to me. My shoulder hurts really bad and it hasn't stopped bleeding. It's not pouring blood, but it's letting out too much, that's for sure.

"So your name's Britt?" He asks.

I look at him as I let out deep breaths. I haven't moved from my position because every time I try to change position pain shoots up my shoulder.

"Yeah, you?" I ask. I really don't care at the moment, but if I'm going to befriend this guy, I need to be a bit nicer than I have been.

"Mason. I hear you've got a bit of a situation you're in." He chuckles.

I scoff and lean my head back, "Yeah, and it never seems to end." I glance up at the window and see it's starting to sprinkle again. Good. Hopefully it will storm again.

I stare at the bars and see they could be bent if I had my Wolf; the metal looks weak enough. There's just two problems. One: My shoulder is injured. Two: My Wolf isn't currently "available."

I get an idea and ask Mason, "What Pack?" It's kind of like an undercover question to ask another Wolf.

"What?" He asks.

I scoff, yeah, definitely human, "Never mind."

>Kira? I call out of hope that she will answer.

>Kira, please. I need your help, I can't get out of here without you. I beg. Then, I get an idea.

>We need to find Talon, he could still be out there. I know you can hear me. Is it the virus holding you back? Please Kira, I'll fight it with you, but we have to get out of here tonight. They're going to kill us and you know it! I yell at her.

I get no answer and I start to get angry. I slam my fist on the ground, with my left hand of course, causing Mason to jump.

>Kira! I yell in my head. I start to get upset and I can tell my face is probably red. I start to feel a familiar rising in my chest and that's when it clicks. Anger. Caleb said that one of the hardest things to concur with the virus was emotion. I have an older version of the virus, so I may be able to get Kira to work around it.

"Hey uh, you okay?" Mason asks.

"No," I snap, standing up and going over to the window as I try to ignore the pain, "I'm not."

I grab a bar with my good arm and swing my foot up, wedging it against the concrete and pushing with my foot while pulling with my arm. My eyes are screwed closed and I'm instinctively holding my breath; I shouldn't do that.

"That's not going to work." Mason say's in a singsong voice.

"Come on!" I groan as I pull harder.

"Lady have you lost it? It's not going to ben- How the hell are you doing that?" He gasps.

I don't open my eyes as I just keep pulling. About a minute later and I hear a snap causing me to fall backward. When I do so I let out a shout when my arm hits the floor.

"Are you Superwoman or something?! Oh my- Your eyes!" He freaks. I scoff at him. Humans; I mentally roll my eyes. My eyes are probably glowing the color of my Wolf's. I don't know what color they are because, come to think of it, I've never had the time to study her appearance.

I look up and see the bar I was pulling had snapped off at the top and if I can bust the glass, I can crawl out of the small space. I hear my shoulder crack and I gasp in pain. It's Kira trying to put it back together.

The glass is blurry from the now heavy rain. I suddenly hear chaos and gunfire outside and see it's overcast. Something must have happened.

"I want your word. You get me and my friends out of this zone if I get you out of that cell." I growl, knowing that he will know his way around.

"You have my word." He quickly nods at the deal.

"Good," Kira butts in through me, "Because if you try to run I'll hunt you down."

I roll my eyes at her and look out the window. No Soldiers. They must be focused on whatever is on the other side of the fence. I reel my left arm back and hit the glass, causing it to shatter but cutting my fist up in the process.

I climb out of the window, ripping a few pieces of my shirt in the process, and hit the sopping wet ground. I go over to Mason's window and bust the glass. I move my shoulder and feel that it's all good. I mentally thank my Wolf and grab the bars, repeating my actions.

The bar breaks from the bottom this time, but I still get the same outcome and Mason climbs out of the window.

"Lock down is now in procedure. All residents return to your sleeping areas. Gate B is now closed until further notice." A woman comes over the megaphone.

I can feel Kira's thoughts. Her main focus is Talon; that's what's keeping her going. I don't have time to question it when Zoey and Keith suddenly come running.

"How did you get out?" Zoey gasps.

"Doesn't matter," Kira's voice doubles with mine, making it sound like soft growling mixed with speaking, "Where are the boys and Ally?"

"Ally is fighting off the Runners at Gate B!" She yells over the heavy rain and gun fire, "The boys are in the dorms, come with us!"

We take off following them and Keith stays by my side. We're snuck into the dorms unnoticed. The boys room is the average small college-like dorm room with a bunk bed and a desk. They jump up and Dylan hugs me.

"How do we get out of here?" I ask Zoey.

"I know how, but we have to leave now or never. This good of a distraction rarely happens." She say's and we all follow her. The heavy rain gives us good cover as we travel through the old city buildings. She stops in an alleyway and moves a crate, revealing a gaping hole in the brick building.

She ushers us in and we all take a fall, landing inside a long dimly lit basement hallway. Suddenly three men have guns on us and Zoey then leaps down, "Don't worry, they're with me."

The relax and I ask, "What have you and Ally been into?"

"Don't ask, now listen. I left a note for when Ally gets back to our dorm, she'll know where to go and have free roam since she's a Soldier. We'll wait for her here since the Soldiers don't know about this place. We can get out of this city through the sewers in the underground, but there's a problem. No one has been able to leave because the sewers were raided by Infected, a lot of Infected. And we can get through if we clear them out, but it's a risk. Luckily getting you guys out wasn't as hard as predicted.

"Another problem is we will only have two guns, but in here, safety is in numbers. We can fight our way through. It's the only way out." She finishes.

"Who is this?" Keith suddenly butts in, pointing to Mason.

"I'm with Superwoman." Mason holds his hands up in surrender.

"That's Mason." I respond casually as I sense my is Wolf still on edge. We're sharing control, meaning she can say something or take over whenever she wants, but if I wish to, I can stop her.

"Why is he here?" Keith asks while looking at Mason as if he's mentally challenged.

"He's my jail buddy and we made a deal. He helps me get us out of here, in turn, I bust him out. Fortunately, you guys showed up." I reply.

"Then we don't need him, he's not coming." Keith responds. I suddenly feel Kira interfering.

"He was holding up his end of the deal, so I'm holding up mine. Now he's coming, so why don't you shut your mouth and shove it up your-" I stop her before she can finish the sentence and I groan when she claws on the inside. Keith's fingers twitch at his side, signaling anger.

"Look guys, we don't have time for this. Y'all go wait through those double doors and I'll keep watch and wait for Ally." Zoey directs and I silently follow the orders, walking through the double doors at the end of the hall.

We walk into what look like a utility room with two male guards. At the very center of the room is a manhole with a ladder. I guess that's where we're going. It's dead silent. All you can hear in the room is the sopping movement of our wet clothes and shoes.

I suddenly hear something and I go to the manhole, kneeling and listening.

I hear screaming and clicking. Like, snarling and groaning. Yeah, defiantly Infected down there. I wonder if they can climb ladders? Oh yeah, they can. That's why the guys in here aren't talking like the one's past the doors were. They have silencers on their guns, too.

I stand back up and pace the filthy room in angst. Kira is pacing inside of me and it's effecting me. I start to pop my knuckles; old habits die hard.

"I'm sure he's fine." Mason tells me in a whisper. He must be referring to Talon. How does he- Oh yeah. Ally told my life story in front of him.

I shake my head in reply and stare at the manhole. Safety in numbers.

Let's see, we have Zoey, Allison, Dylan, Collin, Keith, Mason, and myself. That's seven. When we get to Sawyer, Cain, Ashton, and hopefully Talon, we'll have eleven. But outside with he Hunters, I don't think traveling in numbers is safe. The less people the better.

Subtracting Mason would be ten. Then when we get the boys to safety, it will be eight. We'll have to bare through it until then.

About an hour later Zoey comes storming in with Ally and she whisper yells, "We have to go now! They know we're missing!"

Suddenly Keith and I are shoved guns and we're going down the dark manhole. Once everyone is down, we're standing in a huge circular dark concrete tunnel with two ways to go and no one moves a muscle. It's quiet.

No Infected. For now.

Below my feet is what I hope is just water, a mini stream going through the tunnel. It's humid in here and the smell isn't too pleasant either.

"Don't worry, it's just water. Fortunately we won't be passing the sewage. Follow me." Zoey whispers heading right with light steps.

My adrenaline pumps through my veins and Kira's anxiety for Talon's safety gets worse.
