Chapter 30

We had an hour lunch break before the last event. Everyone was heading to the cafeteria, but out of the corner of my eye, I saw Todoroki drag Midoriya off somewhere. I left the group and followed them. By the time I got there, they'd already started talking.

I wasn't the only person eavesdropping. Bakugo was there too, listening in round the corner. I came up beside him, and tapped him on the shoulder; he jumped but luckily he didn't make any noise. I wanted to ask why he was there, but I wanted to listen in to the others.

Midoriya and Icyhot's conversation seemed intense. Todoroki was telling him about his father's treatment of him, and why he refuses to use his left side. He also made some valid points about the similarities between Midoriya's quirk and All Might's. But then the dense potato had to say something stupid, "Midoriya, tell me. Are you All Might's secret love child?" Midoriya said it wasn't true, but after all the evidence about their relationship, it probably wasn't actually too far off from the truth.

He continued to talk about Endeavour, spilling out all his secrets to Midoriya. About the quirk marriage of his father and how he was only a tool to his father and how he got his scar. I wondered why he felt he could tell him all of this. He was usually a reserved person, but he was different around Midoriya. I also couldn't help but feel a bit jealous. Sure I'd only met him a couple of times, years ago, but he'd pretty much ignored me since school started. Yet he felt like he could pour out his deepest, darkest secrets to Midoriya.

They both left after a while. I turned around to see that Bakugo was already gone, so I decided to make my way back to get some lunch before the break was over.

After the break, we headed back to the field. Present Mic was saying they'd brought in cheerleaders for the last event, but when I saw some of them, my jaw dropped. I'd been wondering where the rest of the girls were during lunch. They were dressed as cheerleaders, holding pom poms and looking very embarrassed.

"Hold up, it looks like class 1-A is going full on fan service."

I saw Kaminari and Mineta smiling and looking proud. This was obviously their fault.

"What? You tricked us! You're gonna regret this!" yelled Yaomomo. The girls looked really mad, so on behalf of my friends, I walked up behind them and spilled my water onto both of their heads. "Whoops." They screamed like little girls. It was hilarious. They yelled at me for embarrassing them on live TV in front of all the ladies watching, but they'd done the same to the others, so they deserved it.

Present Mic announced that the final round was a tournament style fighting competition for the remaining 16 students.

"Come closer to draw lots to see who you're up against," said Midnight. "Then enjoy the pleasure of the recreational games before we start. The 16 students have the option of participating in those activities, or sitting out to prepare for battle. I'm sure you all want to conserve your stamina. I'll start with the first place team."

Just then, Ojiro raised his hand. "Um, excuse me. Sorry, but I'm withdrawing." Everyone looked shocked at his announcement, and honestly, I was too. "It just wouldn't be right. I barely remember anything from the cavalry battle until the very end of it. I think it was that guys quirk." He looked over at Shinso. I followed his gaze, along with many others. "I know this is a great opportunity, and I wish I could take advantage of it, but my conscience won't let me."

"Wait, just think about this," said Midoriya.

"I have OK!" Ojiro snapped back. "Everyone gave their all in round 2, but I was just someone's puppet. I don't wanna advance if I don't even know how I got here. It wouldn't be fair."

"You're making too much of this; just kill it in the finals and prove you should be here," said Toru.

"That's not it. I'm talking about my pride here. I refuse to give that up." I felt bad for Ojiro. I should have tried to make Shinso release them. It wasn't fair of him to use them, but I didn't try to help them. I was too focused on myself, I forgot about them.

"Nirengeki Shoda from class 1-B. I think I should withdraw for the exact same reason. Regardless of how strong I am, this isn't how I wanted to get here. It would go against the values of the festival, if I advanced without earning my spot."

"Listen to these guys, their so manly," said Kirishima. He was actually on the verge of tears.

"Well now, here's another weird turn of events," said Mic on the speakers. "We'll have to see what Midnight had to say about all this; she's the one in charge."

"This sort of talk is incredibly naive my boys. That turns me on." I almost burst out laughing. Midnight seriously had to watch the things she said sometimes. "Shoda, Ojiro, you're withdrawn. Now let's see. We'll have to move up 2 students from the 5th place cavalry team so we have enough contestants."

"We were frozen for most of the battle. Honestly, we hardly did anything," said Kendo. "You should choose from the team who kept fighting the whole time: team Tetsutetsu. I'm not doing this as a favour, it's just fair." She seemed nice.

Tetsutetsu looked like he was going to cry. "Seriously you guys, thank you!"

Tetsutetsu and Shiozaki were the 2 who were moving forward. We drew names and were matched up for the first round. I was going to be against Mina. I wasn't sure how I was going to win without any of my weapons, against someone who could literally burn me alive. But I'm sure I'll figure something out. Hopefully.
