06. Blueberry

3rd person POV

Inge runs in the airport lobby the second she gets out from the taxi. The airport is such a mess. The family of the airplane crash are yelling at the entire lobby.

Inge looks around. Sun must be here with Park to pick up Park's mom and grandparents.

And there they are....

Inge has a huge mental breakdown when she finds them in the middle of chaos. Sun is standing still, hugging Park who are confused seeing his surrounding.

Sun's gaze looked empty.

Inge runs toward them. "Sun!!!"

Sun turns to the familiar voice which calls his name. He looks at Inge. Confused.

Inge breaks to tears seeing lost gaze on Sun's eyes. He looked so weak right now. He just lost his entire family. Tears lingering in his eyes but none of it drops to his cheeks.

"Inge? What are you doing here?" Sun asks.

Inge stops in front of Sun. She wipes her tears. "I... I watched the news. And I... I...." she can't finish her sentence.

Sun looks at Inge. Confusedly.

"Mommy!" Park yells and both his arms tries to reach Inge.

"No. No, Park." Sun hugs Park tightly. "Mommy is... is... not... not...." Tears rolls down Sun's cheeks.

Park looks at Sun in shock. "Uncle Sun, why are you crying...?"

"No. I'm... I'm not." Sun hurriedly wipes his tears. "Something got to my eyes. See... I'm not crying."

Park looks around. "Everyone is crying." And then he starts crying. "I want my mommy!!! Ganmaaa!!! Ganpaaa!!!" And he starts calling his grandparents too.

"Ssshhh... Park...." Sun taps on Park's back, trying to calm himself down. "Just... just...."

"You said we're going to pick mommy, ganma and ganpa." Park is still crying. "And we'll buy ice creaaamm!!!"

"Yeah... yeah... just...." Sun confused and desperately tries to explain to Park. "It... it might take longer for them to go."

"Why? They are not coming home yet?" Park looks at Sun with tears still running from his eyes.

Sun tries so hard not to cry again. "No... not yet."

"Why? Don't they miss me? I'll be a good kid. If I be a good kid, will they go home...?" Park asks.

"They... they will. Yeah." Sun doesn't have the heart to say otherwhise. "... when it's time.... I'll tell you where they are going and we'll... we'll visit them. Okay?"

"I'll be a good kid then." Park says. He even wipes his tears.

Sun smiles. "Thanks, Park."

"So, can I have at least mommy to go home?" Park asks again.

Tear breaks in Sun's eyes again. "It... uhm... well.... I'll... I'll try... yeah. I'll get you your mommy. Okay... soon. Just... just give me time."

"Please...." Park begs Sun.

Sun blinks. "Park, not... not that fast.... I...."

"... I said 'please', Uncle Sun." Park starts crying again. "I am being polite and being a good kid. I am saying 'please'.... I want mom...."

"Mommy's here." Suddenly Inge says. She even spreads both her arms.

Sun looks at Inge confusedly.

Park looks at Inge. He blinks and then looks at Sun confusedly. Sun was saying she's not mommy, but....

"Inge, you don't have to do that." Sun says in whisper.

Inge smiles. "Let me take him to ice cream nearby. You have to report to the airport for the next of the kin of your family. Just in case any other update."

Sun blinks. "Are you sure...?"

"Mommy...." Park tries to reach on Inge again.

Inge nods.

Sun let Park gets to Inge and now Inge is hding him on her arms. "Thanks. I'll... I'll be quick."

"Take your time. We'll be fine." Inge says softly. She is not a child lover but well... this is not the time for that. She looks at Park. "What ice cream do you want?"

"Blueberry!!!" Park yells happily.

Inge smiles. "Let's find one. Can you walk by yourself?"

Park nods. "For ice cream? Sure!"

Park gets off of Inge and then they are holding hands to the nearby minimart.

Sun takes a deep breath and walks to the airport authorities.

*

It was probably three hours already. Park was having blueberry ice cream and even a donut while waiting for Sun.

Nor Park is sleeping in the bench with Inge's lap as his pillow.

Inge brushes at Park's hair.

He was just lose his father a year ago, and he has to lose his mother and grandparents today. He has not even three years old yet.

"Sorry, it takes longer." Sun is standing in front of them.

Inge looks up and meets Sun's eyes. She taps on her right side on the empty side of the bench. Telling Sun to sit.

Sun sits there. He takes a long deep breath and looks down to his feet. Both his arms are on his laps.

Inge taps on his shoulder blade. "Sun...."

Tears breaks in Sun's eyes. He wipes it but it keeps coming out. "... sorry, I just...."

"Hey, hey.... Sun, come here...." Inge pulls Sun's arm and leads him to release his sadness on her shoulder. "It's... it's okay, Sun. You don't have to be sorry for crying. It's.... I'm here, Sun."

Sun hugs on Inge's shoulder. He takes another long deep breath and then closes his eyes as he presses his forehead against Inge's. "Oh how I wish this is just a nightmare and someone wake me up anytime soon."

Inge smiles sadly. "... yeah."

Sun opens his eyes. He meets Inge's eyes. "I should've be the one taking them to their holiday, not Venus. But I said that she needs vacation and I...."

"Ssshhh... don't you blame yourself, Sun. It's not your fault."

Sun looks at Inge desperately. "Park has no parents now. What should I do...? I know nothing about parenting."

Inge gulps. "... you'll... you'll be fine."

Sun takes a long deep breath. "Oh God. I only have them and they're gone." He says in a whisper. "... they're gone...."

Inge rounds her right arm to hug Sun while her left arm is still round on Park's waist on the bench. "Be strong for Park."

Sun nods. He looks at Inge and then slowly smiles. "Thanks for being here."

Inge nods. "It's nothing. It was just blueberry ice cream." She smiles.

Sun chuckles. "Yeah. Just blueberry icecream."

Silence.

"What did they say?" Inge asks.

"They... say there's noone survive the crash. The cause is still under investigation. And they ask me to leave my information details. They tell me about insurance for the next of kin, me and Park. And... oh, this is so confusing." Sun sighs. "They'll contact me if anything new. They tell me to calm down and wait." He smiles sadly. "... to calm the fucking-down. How the hell am I supposed to calm down when...."

Sun takes another long deep breath. "They need me to come again on Monday."

"Do you want to...."

"Mr. Sun!!!" A bunch of men runs to Sun. They are from the farm.

Sun gets up. "Hey, guys."

"I heard about the boss. Is he really...." one of them asks.

Sun nods.

"The Mrs. too...?"

Sun nods again.

"And Park's mom...?"

Again. Sun nods.

"Oh my God."
"Mr. Sun, my wife gonna help at your house and make sure you don't have to worry about Park. We'll help."
"My wife is too, Mr. Sun, Sir."

Sun smiles. "Thanks guys. That would be great."

That was chaotic. Sun finally goes home with his farmers after dropping Inge back to her apartment.

"Thanks a lot." Sun whispers.

Inge nods. "Take care. Tell me if you need something."

Sun smiles. He nods.

***

Inge is not hearing anything from Sun along the weekdays. She is still getting flowers from Lex and throws it away to the garbage can. Sofia and Peach arw still bullying Lex when he is around.

And Inge....

... is tapping her desk with her nails.

It's Friday afternoon.

She is worrying about Sun, but Sun is not contacting her at all.

So she takes her phone and texts him. "Sun, how are you holding up?"

Sun replies short after with a picture. "Blueberry gelato helps a lot." He is having gelato with Park. Park is smiling wide. "Some random teenager was lecturing me about the different between gelato and ice cream when I order this blueberry GELATO as blueberry ice cream."

Inge chuckles.
She notices that Sun is wearing a polo shirt.
"Yeah, it's different." She replies to him and takes her belonging.

She nearly runs to get to the Gelato House.

She sighs in relieve when finds Sun and Park there. She walks in and joins their table.

Park smiles widely seeing Inge. "Mommy! Wants some ice cream?"

Sun is stunned seeing Inge is here.

Inge smiles at Park and let him feeds her ice cream. And then she looks at Sun. "Is everything all right?"

Sun smiles. He nods.

But Inge can see how he is not. "Why don't you tell me if you need help?"

Sun shakes his head. He is still smiling.

Inge sighs. She wants to help, but doesn't know how.
"Let me buy you dinner."

"You don't have to." Sun refuses.

"But I want to."

Sun shakes his head.

Inge sighs. "Just come by for drinks then."

Sun shakes his head again. He is still smiling. Sadly.

"Why?" Inge is hurt.

Sun takes a long deep breath. "I am sorry, Inge. I can't. I... I'm not fit to be your Friday fun anymore. I have too many problems and I don't want to be a bother. I can't...."

Inge's eyes widen. "That's not what I meant. I just...."

"You did a lot already. I... I can't do this to you. I...." Sun feels hurt when he has to say it. "I am not worth it, Inge. I'll just drag you down. Just...."

"... but, Sun, let me help y...."

"You help enough, Inge." Sun cuts it.

"Sun...."

"Park, let's go home." Sun says to Park. "You can take the remaining blueberry ice cream...."

"It's gelato, uncle." Park corrects him.

"Yeah, gelato, whatever.... Just take it with you. We'll go home."

Park takes the gelato.

"Thank you, Inge, been wonderful to meet you again. You overcome your dream, I see." Sun smiles to Inge and gets up. "Keep it up."

Inge is dumbfounded.

Sun takes Park's hand to lead him out the Gelato House.

"Bye, mommy!" Park waves his goodbye to Inge.
