Chapter 34- Call me

The sun creeped in through the gap in the curtain, pouring across Spencer's face. He winced against the assaulting light. He blinked a few times adjusting to the light. He rubbed his eyes, trying to lift himself up, but a weight on his chest was holding him down. He looked down and saw Gia's head half resting on his shoulder and half on the couch. Her left hand stretched across her body and draped onto his chest. She was breathing deeply, clearly still in a deep sleep. A strand of her hair cascaded down her face. Spencer brushed it back, analysing her peaceful resolve as she slept. After some time, she began to stir. Spencer pulled back his hand and pretend to, not so naturally, check the time.

Her eyes flew open. She immediately retracted her arm. "Sorry," she hastily added, sitting upright.

"It alright." Now he looked at his watch properly. "I have to go," he announced. "I almost forgot about my flight." Spencer shot up off the couch, looking for his belongings.

"Err... yeah. You can freshen up in the bathroom." She pointed down the hall. "I'll make you coffee." Spencer nodded and followed the hallway to the bathroom.

He showered, brushed his teeth and changed his clothes. Spencer emerged from the bathroom, his hair still dripping from his shower. He wandered back down the hallway, until he saw Gia sitting at a dressing table in her room, running a brush through her wet hair. She sensed watching eyes. She turned and saw Spencer at the doorway. "Done," she breathed out. He nodded. "Okay. Coffee's done." She got up and pulled on a sweatshirt, meeting him at the door. She signalled towards the kitchen with her head.

They sip the coffee in silence. That is until Gia speaks again, after taking her last sip of coffee. "Spencer, why did you come here?"

"The reunion," he shrugged. "I told you."

Gia shook her head. "No why did you come here?" She pointed at the floor.

Spencer gulped.

Gia's phone buzzed. "I called you a taxi." She glances down at her phone, reading the notification.

He wordlessly collected his things and made his way to the door. She smiled and followed him, escorting him all the way out of the apartment building.

He says goodbye and is about to walk away when he turned back. "I came here, because I wanted to be able to you. Not by text or on the phone but in person, face to face." He turned to walk away again but stopped. Facing her once more. "I like talking to you. It's so easy. That's how it's supposed to be right?" He doesn't wait for an answer. He starts walking to the taxi again. Again, he stopped. He turned back around and walk straight up to her. He leaned down and kissed her delicately on the cheek, before he pulled back. His cheeks were red as he shuffled towards the taxi.

Gia grabbed his arm stopping him. "I'm glad you did," she whispered into his ear and returned a kiss to his cheek. "Call me, okay."

Spencer eagerly nodded.

He hopped into the taxi, instructing the driver to the airport. He looked out the window as the figure that was Gia grew smaller and smaller in the distance. Spencer removed his phone from his pocket and called her. "Hi,' he said once she answered.

"Hi. I know I told you to call me, but I didn't mean right now," she laughed.

"I couldn't help it." Spencer licked his lips.
