On the first day of the new year Dani woke up by the room being lightened up by the sun shining through the curtains. Her eyes opened when she realised she was cuddling a warm body. She looked right in the smiling eyes of Daniel who had woken up before her and was keeping a close eye on her face. 
'Morning,' Dani said while she let out a yawn. Daniel's lips curled up more as he pushed a string of hair out of Dani's face and behind her ear.
'Good morning.' he said in a raspy voice. They both were staring in each other's eyes, losing all sense of time. The feeling Dani had right now felt so comfortable, she'd wished they never had to move out of Daniel's bed. 
'How did you sleep?' he asked as his hand slowly made his way brushing from the end of Dani's hair to her back, pushing her closer to him. 
'I always sleep good in your bed,' Dani grinned as she tightening her grip around Daniel. She leaned her head against his chest, making her look up to his face. The only thing that made this scene different from their teenage years was maybe the slowly growing facial hair on Daniel's face. Other than that they still looked like the same two teenagers. 
'Is that's so,' Daniel started his sentence as a smirk crept on his face. His foot curled over Dani's foot and suddenly he rolled over on top of her, making her fall back with her head on the pillow. Daniel had both his elbows on each side next to her head. 'Then I guess I have to keep you here forever,' 
Dani couldn't help but let out a scream mixed with a giggle as she was surprised by the move Daniel just made. He had pressed Dani into the mattress while he was on top. 'Daniel!' she giggled as she looked into his eyes. 
'What?' he laughed. He lowered himself a little bit until they touched noses.  
'I can't stay in your bed forever,' she laughed softly. 
'Why not?' he pouted. 
'Because,' Dani started, but got interrupted by hard knocking on the door.
'Daniel? are you up? It's already one p.m. I don't care what time you got here last night. I don't want you to waste the first day of the year. Go and see Dani! I saw you two at the Barbeque together and I'm pretty sure she missed you!' The two young adults looked at each other and listened until they could hear Daniel's mother walk away. Dani pressed her lips together and with an amused smile, she tried not to laugh out loud. 
'Don't laugh she will hear us,' Daniel whispered as he covered Dani's mouth with his hand. It only made her laugh more. 'You're not giving me any other option then,' he sighed as he removed his hand from her mouth. 
'Wha-' He didn't even let Dani finish her question as he softly put his lips on top of hers. He could feel her smile as he deepened the kiss. Dani curled her arms around his neck as she pushed him closer to her. 
'Daniel! Don't let me ask you another time, because I will open this door!' Grace, Daniel's mom warned him from behind the door. Daniel pulled his lips off of Dani's and she watched him roll his eyes. 
'This is why I told you last night we'd better go to your house,' Daniel sighed softly as they heard Grace walk away from Daniel's room again. 
'Don't be so stupid,' Dani laughed as she removed her arms around his neck. She pushed Daniel off of her and removed the bed sheet off her body. 'I'm actually excited to see Grace again properly,' Dani stood up from the bed and pushed Daniel's T-shirt that she wore to bed a little bit down so it would cover her butt. 
'That's the whole reason why I didn't want to come here with you. She's going to steal you away from me!' Daniel sighed as he lay down on his side and watched her. Dani put her hands on her side. 
'Then you better get up and watch over me Ricciardo,' Dani grinned as she sprinted out of Daniel's room, forgetting that it maybe was better to first change in some decent clothing. Daniel didn't know how fast he had to jump out of bed and follow Dani closely downstairs to the kitchen.
'Dani! I didn't know you were here. Did you sleep here?' Daniel walked into the kitchen and saw the interaction between his mother and the girl he loved. They were hugging. 
'Yeah. It got late last night and I didn't want to wake up my whole family as you know how loud the back door is,' Dani laughed. 'I hope you don't mind that I stayed here.'
'Of course not! Are you crazy?!' Grace said as she pushed herself back from the hug and softly hold Dani's shoulder. 'You're always welcome here! God, you're so grown up! No wonder Daniel keeps talking about you,' Grace moved her hands shortly to Dani's cheeks. She did it in such a motherly way. It made Dani smile brightly as this was the way Dani remembered Grace like she always has been. She was like a second mother to her and they always had a close relationship. 
'Okay, mom. That's enough,' Daniel coughed while pulling Dani away from his mother. Grace looked at her son. She started to grin at the sight she was seeing. Daniel with only wearing his sweatpants, holding Dani, who was wearing Daniel's shirt, close to him while having his hands on her shoulder in a protective way. 
'Are you guys...' Grace stopped her sentence for a second as her eyes moved to Daniel's hands on Dani's shoulder. '-here to tell me something? Some big news?' 
'No mom, Dani's not pregnant.' Daniel said like he meant it. Dani looked at Grace with shock as she elbowed Daniel's stomach hard. 
'Why would you say that?' Dani asked as she looked up to him, turning her body to him. 
'Well, isn't it true? Because we haven't-' Daniel said but got interrupted by his mother who was very curious about where this conversation was leading to.
'You haven't? So you're planning to have sex?' Grace asked.
'Mom!' Daniel sighed as he already felt awkward. Dani immediately saw the teenage Daniel again. 'Let's change first before having breakfast,' Daniel said to Dani as he already pushed her out of the kitchen. 
'It's actually lunch. Because you guys stayed too long in bed together, you missed breakfast.' Grace yelled back at them with an amused smile. 

'It's all your fault,' Dani told Daniel as they were making their short way to Dani's house. 
'My fault? Why is it my fault that you run away from me in only my T-shirt?!' Daniel replied. She looked back at him as she was walking over a little wall, that separates the beach with the normal road, to be at the same height as Daniel. 
'Why would you make a comment about me not being pregnant?' Dani asked as she felt like pushing Daniel again by that stupid comment that he made to his mother. 
'I was just joking. My mom knows that, I thought you would too... Unless...' Daniel stopped with walking as he looked back at Dani with big eyes. 
'I'm not pregnant for crying out loud!' Dani said a bit too loud and she jumped off the wall to stand in front of him. Slowly a smirk crept up on his face.
'I know! I just wanted to see how you would react.' Daniel grinned as he leant his arm on her shoulder and kept walking again. 'God, I can't believe you haven't changed at all.' 
'And I can't believe I'm dating a fool like you,' Dani said with a playful grin as they walked to the front door of Dani's house.
'Oh? We're dating? Didn't realise I asked you to be my girlfriend, or you asking me to be your boyfriend?' Daniel teased as he put his hand on his chin, pretending to think back in his memory. Dani opened the front door as she looked back at Daniel.
'I can leave you here, you know?' She told him as she already walked inside, but still holding the door close to her body to close it at any moment. 
'Let's not do that, girlfriend.' Daniel winked as he pushed the door more open. Dani couldn't help but let a giggle escape her mouth as she let go of the door.
'You're such a fool,' 
'Well, well, well. Who do we have here?' Both Daniel and Dani looked up from each other as they hear Will's voice. Dani turned her body around and smiled at her brother.
'Will! Happy new year!' Dani yelled as she gave her brother a hug. 
'Yeah, you too... Mom was worried that you weren't in bed this morning,' Will said as he pulled himself out of the hug to look at his sister with a frown on his face.
'That's my fault,' Daniel interfered with it as he pointed his hand in the air. 
'Of course it is,' Will mumbled as he rolled his eyes. Dani saw her brothers unfriendly look to her what now seemed to be her boyfriend. 
'Will, why are you here?' Dani finally sighed as her brother seemed to be always at their parent's house where he didn't live anymore.
'It's the first of January. I'm always forced to be here at this day,' Will said, giving another unfriendly look at Daniel. 
'Okay. Well, be nice to Daniel okay?' Dani finally said in whisper tone to her brother as she looked at him with puppy eyes. 'He's my boyfriend now,'
'You're...Wait what?!' Dani already walked back to Daniel with a grin and dragged him with her to the living room. Will followed the couple closely. 
'See! I told you she was with Daniel!' Kurt immediately said as the couple walked in the living room where both of Dani's parents, Kurt and Gina sat on the couches. Kurt had his arms over each other as he sat sagged on the couch, looking like he didn't want to be there any second longer. Dani's mother stood up immediately to give them both a hug.
'Happy new year. Did you two enjoy your evening?' Dani's mom asked as she sat back down on the couch again. 
'Nah mom you're asking it wrong,' Kurt suddenly said as he sat up straight with a big grin. That was a sign for Dani that she knew that he knew. 
'Kurt,' Dani warned him. She didn't want any of her brothers to announce who was her boyfriend, that was something she wanted to do herself.
'The only thing you have to ask these two is: Daniel is my sister a good kisser, please don't let me know I really don't care. Oh and Dani, how is Daniel like kissing?' Kurt looked at them with a smug smile and while Dani's mom was figuring out what that meant and being very happy about it, Dani just sighed.
'Why can't this be announced in the normal way?' she asked mostly to Daniel. He laughed and shrugged while puller her close to him.
