Chapter 13~ Padfoot and Snivellus

It had been a few weeks since Sirius had been freed and everyone found out about James Piro really being Harry Potter. Most students had gotten used to it by now, but some people still called Harry James. Malfoy wasn't happy about Harry's rejection, much to the pleasure of most Hufflepuffs, Ravenclaws, and Gryffindors. Harry had earned respect from most students but definitely not the Slytherins. They hated him now more than ever, but Harry didn't mind. He felt the same way towards them. Sirius was in the process of buying a cottage for himself and Harry. Sirius did visit Harry every once in a while at Hogwarts until he was able to buy a cottage but he hadn't run into any teachers other than Dumbledore and McGonagall. That is, until the fourth week he was free.

"Harry." said Sirius, behind Harry, Ron, and Hermione. They were in the Entrance Hall but most students were outside if not stuck studying in the library or their common rooms.

"Padfoot." Harry hugged Sirius.

"How are you?" asked Sirius.

"I'm great, you?" said Harry.

"I'm perfect. And how are the two of you?" Sirius asked Ron and Hermione.

"I'm good." said Ron, simply.

"I'm great, actually. My parents sent me a letter saying if I get good marks this year, they'll buy me an owl." said Hermione excitedly.

"And I doubt you'll get bad marks, considering you really are the brightest witch of your age." said Sirius. Hermione smiled.

"Well, well, well. What do we have here?" said a dull voice from behind Sirius.

Oh no. Snape! If Sirius talks to him Merlin knows what he'll do. But it was too late. Snape and Sirius were face to face and having what looked like a menacing staring contest.

"Snape. I thought I'd never have to see you again, after Hogwarts. But, since I found out you've been teaching my godson, I was wondering when I'd be meeting you again." said Sirius.

"Well, than... I'm sure I would be very... intrigued... to hear what you have to say." said Snape.

"I have heard rumours around this school that you're not a very good teacher." said Sirius.

"Black, tell me, if I were invited into your house and started criticizing the way you do things, you wouldn't be very happy, would you?" said Snape.

"I wouldn't know. I would never invite you into my house, Snivellus." said Sirius. You could almost see Snape's blood boiling at being called Snivellus again.

"I suggest you get out of here, Black. You wouldn't want a bit of... Veritaserum, finding its way to your mouth, now would you?" Snape threatened. "Well, you better be careful... a single drop... that's all it takes to get you to start spilling your deepest, darkest secrets to everyone who's listening."

"Funny, you think I'm afraid of you. I don't know about you, Snivellus, but I don't find a man wearing granny clothes very scary." said Sirius. Harry knew the second he said it he had gone too far. But he hadn't known Snape for as long as Sirius. He had no idea that Sirius had Snape right where he wanted him. Snape pulled out his wand and pointed it at Sirius' throat. Hermione grabbed the sleeve of Harry's robes and backed up a few paces.

"I could do it you know. But why deny the Dementors, they've been so longing to see you. Might even give you a kiss. Do I detect a flicker of fear?" No! "The Dementor's Kiss has been said to be nearly unbearable to witness but I'll do my best." said Snape.

"Stop!" yelled Harry.

"I was not intending on receiving your input, Mr. Piro, so, I will not repeat this, stay out of it." said Snape.

"You are obviously behind on the Daily Prophet, Snape, you see, I'm innocent. I am no longer wanted by the Ministry." said Sirius, triumphantly. Snape's own triumphant expression faltered, and he dropped his wand.

"What are you talking about?" asked Snape. Sirius pulled a copy of the Daily Prophet out of his pocket and handed it to Snape. He scanned the front page and, instead of looking back at Sirius, he looked at Harry. "Detention. And 25 points from Gryffindor." he said. He tried to walk away but Harry stopped him.

"That's not fair! I didn't do anything!" said Harry, angrily.

"Mr. Potter. You have been keeping secrets and lying to the whole school for nearly two years now." said Snape. "I will expect you at the edge of the Forbidden Forest, tonight. Hagrid would appreciate some help." with that, he walked off.

But Sirius followed him.

Merlin help me.

"Still as pathetic as ever, I see." said Sirius. Snape stopped dead in his tracks and whipped around to face Sirius.

"Black. I may not be able to send you to Azkaban, but you have no right to tell me what to do. Therefore, I will give Mr. Potter detention if I feel it is needed he attend detention." said Snape. That exact moment, Dumbledore walked around the corner.

Thank Merlin.

"Severus. I don't see why Mr. Potter would need to attend detention. I understand where you are coming from, but Severus, he had my permission. I knew." said Dumbledore. It was safe to say Snape didn't know what to say. Instead of replying, he walked away, towards the dungeons. "And, Sirius. You will be able to move into yours and Harry's new cottage next week."

"Thank you, Albus." said Sirius. Dumbledore bowed his head to show his acknowledgement and he walked away.

"Can you believe he didn't read the Prophet?" said Ron. "How thick can you get?" Sirius burst out laughing. He obviously appreciated Ron's comment.

Sirius walked back towards the Whomping Willow with Harry.

"So, when are you going to ask her out?" he asked.

"Who?" asked Harry.

"Hermione, obviously." said Sirius.

"Oh, in that case, never." Harry replied.

"What? Why?" asked Sirius.

"Well, yeah I like her, but, she only looks at me like a friend. And even if she did like me back, I don't think it would work with my luck." said Harry.

"Well, I think you should go for it. I mean look at how your parents fell in love. He loved her and pursued her since first, she hated him from first year and finally agreed to go on a date with him six years later." said Sirius. Harry laughed and agreed.

"Do you really think I should ask her out?" asked Harry.

"Yes, absolutely. You know, the other day I was seeing a bit of flirting going on." said Sirius, teasing Harry.

"Whatever." said Harry.
