10. AGAIN

Ever since that day in which Louis told his husband that he was ready to try again for another baby, they had been having sėx non stop.

And although Louis was more than a little anxious all the time about actually getting pregnant, he hadn't changed his mind about feeling ready for it to happen again.

It was mid March, so they had been trying for about 6 weeks, and that morning Louis woke up feeling a little nauseous.

His first thought as he took a few deep breaths to try to get rid of the nausea, was that the trying had worked, and that he was pregnant again.

But then he told himself that that might not be the case, that nausea could be caused by many other things, so not to get his hopes up yet. And so, he didn't say anything to his husband, as he didn't want to get his hopes up in vain either.

The nausea passed after he took a shower and had breakfast, but as he walked inside his workplace, it came back out of nowhere, and it was so bad, that he had to run to the bathroom, and he emptied his stomach in the toilet.

It took him about 20 minutes to get himself together, and during at least 2 hours he kept being nauseous, but he did his best to hide it from his patients, wanting to do his job properly.

But even as bad as the nausea was, it didn't quite convince Louis that he was pregnant. And he could've just taken a test there, or sent a urine and blood sample to be tested, but he didn't want to do that yet.

He was sure he wouldn't be able to beat a negative result, so he only wanted to take a test when he was sure what the result was going to be.

The next morning, Louis felt completely normal, and didn't have any pregnancy symptoms at all, which told him he had probably been right not to take a test, because most likely he wasn't pregnant.

But on Thursday, Louis woke up nauseous again, but it went away pretty fast, so he had a normal breakfast, and went to work like he normally did. But he regretted the breakfast when, mid morning, he felt nauseous again, and threw up everything.

So maybe he was pregnant after all?

When the exact same thing happened on Friday, Louis was pretty much convinced that he was if fact pregnant, and so he grabbed a pregnancy test from where they kept them, but instead of taking it home with him, he decided to take it to the bathroom.

He hesitated for a few minutes, wondering if maybe he should do this with Harry.

But what if it was negative?

He didn't want to see Harry's disappointed face if it was, he was sure it would kill him.

In the end he decided to just take the test and hope for the best.

It was the longest 3 minutes of Louis' life while he stared at the little screen, which had the image of a battery loading, and it was supposed to change when it was ready, and say 'pregnant' or 'not pregnant'. And as he waited, he tried his best not to let his imagination run wild, and not imagine a little baby in his arms.

Suddenly the little battery changed into just one word: 'pregnant'.

Louis' eyes filled with tears, while at the same time he grinned, because this was what he had wanted to see, and now that it was a reality, he was thrilled, and he couldn't wait to have it confirmed with a blood test, so he could tell Harry.

After washing his hands, and clearing the tears from his face, Louis left the bathroom, which was for staff only (but he still took the rest with him so no one saw it), and he went back to his office, because he had to continue seeing patients.

The practice where he worked was small, there was a common area, where the reception and the waiting area was, then there was his office to the left, Dr. Carmichael's to the right, a small room where the nurse that worked with them did the blood work and other things, then the staff bathroom, and the patients bathroom.

Overall the staff was just 4 people, their receptionist, Susan, who was around Louis' mum's age, the nurse, Paula, who was maybe forty or so, Dr. Carmichael, who was 61 (Louis knew that for sure), and Louis, who was 29, and so the youngest person there. There was also a lad that did the cleaning, Tom, but he came early in the morning, and then left, so Louis rarely saw him.

"Dr. Tomlinson, Mrs. Porter is here for her appointment" Susan told him through the intercom once he was back in his office.

"Thank you, Susan" Louis replied, as he tried to wipe away the smile from her face "Tell her to come in".

Louis did the best to compose himself when Mrs. Porter came inside his office, as she was an older patient who came to see him at least once a month, always having something different.

She had actually been Dr. Carmichael's patient for years, but ever since Louis started working with him, he had passed her down to him, seeing he had had enough of her for a lifetime.

"Mrs. Porter" Louis told her, when the woman came inside his office "It's nice to see you".

"You too, dear" Mrs. Porter replied, and coughed horribly "I have a horrible cough, though".

"I see" Louis nodded "Let's check that out".

When Mrs. Porter left, Louis went over to Paula, and he asked her to draw his blood, and send it to be tested, and have the results be sent as soon as possible to his email. Louis knew Paula wasn't dumb, and she knew what Louis was testing, but she didn't say anything about it, just like she hadn't done it last time Louis asked to have his blood drawn, and he really liked her for that.

By the time Louis left work that day, he still hadn't received the results, which was normal, but he kept refreshing his email app, to make sure he wasn't missing anything.

He hadn't been home for long, when Louis heard the front door open, and he heard two girls' voices, and he didn't need to see the other girl to know who it was.

Lizzie.

It wasn't uncommon that Lizzie came to their house after school on Friday's, so Louis didn't think anything of it, and greeted both girls as  if he had known Lizzie was coming.

"Hi, girls" Louis greeted them with a smile "How was school?".

"Horrible" Lizzie answered while she took off her backpack, and her jacket.

Lizzie and Tori were not only different when it came to personality, they also looked completely different. Because while Tori had blonde hair and hazel eyes, Lizzie had black hair and very deep blue eyes. Their height was also different too, because Tori was 5'6", while Lizzie was 5'1", if that, and it didn't seem like she was going to keep growing.

But what Lizzie lacked in height, she made up in personality.

"She's being dramatic" Tori said as she took off her jacket too.

"Why don't I give you some cookies to make your day better, and maybe you can tell me what happened?" Louis suggested.

"Yes, please" Lizzie said with her blue eyes big.

Louis went over to the kitchen to find the cookie jar, that had oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies in it, which he had baked the day before.

"Can I have tea as well?" Lizzie requested "With milk".

"Sure, love" Louis smiled.

Louis made a cup of ginger tea for himself, as he had started to feel a little nauseous again, Lizzie's tea, and then a glass of milk for Tori, knowing his daughter wasn't a fan of tea.

"Alright, girls, there you go" Louis said as he left a the cookies, the tea and the milk on the table.

"Thank you, mum" Tori said as she took a cookie.

"Thanks" Lizzie said dramatically, as she sat down at the table, and grabbed a cookie.

"What happened, Lizzie?" Louis asked amused.

"This girl is having her birthday party tomorrow, which is the day of my party, and also my actual birthday" Lizzie declared, and he could tell she had been dying to say it "But is her actual birthday tomorrow? No, it's not, her actual birthday's a week later".

"Maybe you could talk to this girl?" Louis suggested as he sat down too, and sipped his tea.

"I already did, I told her she needs to move her party to some other day, but she won't do it" Lizzie complained "And she had the nerve to tell me her party is more important than mine because she's turning 15, and I'm turning 14".

"Oh, so this girl isn't from your year" Louis realized "Then what's the problem? Your friends are probably not even invited to her party, so they are still going to go to yours".

"Not Tommy Rhodes" Lizzie crossed her arms "He's going to go to her party, and not even because she's her friend, because all of his friends are going there".

"Who is Tommy Rhodes?" Louis asked clueless.

"The boy she likes" Tori declared, and munched on her cookie.

"Oh" Louis said in understanding.

Because for the last 2 years or so, there had always been a boy Lizzie liked, but this was the first Louis heard about Tommy Rhodes.

"So is Tommy Rhodes older too?" Louis questioned.

"Yeah, he's 15, and he's kind of friends with my brother" Lizzie explained.

"I see" Louis nodded "And he had agreed to come to your party?".

"Yes! He was at my house last weekend playing video games with Oscar, and I mentioned I was having a birthday party this Saturday, and he said he'd come" Lizzie explained "But today Oscar said that him and all of his friends, which includes Tommy, are going to stupid Lily's party".

"I'm sorry, honey" Louis said apologetically "But you know, if he rather hang out with his friends over you, it means he's not worth it, so at the end of the day, you're better off without him".

"But he's so cute" Lizzie pouted.

"No, he's not, Lizzie" Tori rolled her eyes "He has a weird nose, and his hair's always dirty, it's disgusting".

"Your standards are too high, Tori" Lizzie told her.

"It's good to have high standards" Louis considered.

"Yeah, but she wants like a double of August Bell as her boyfriend, and boys at school just aren't like that" Lizzie pointed out.

"You want a boyfriend?" Louis asked his daughter.

"No!" Tori said, making a face that made Louis believe that she was telling the truth.

"All the older boys in school are in love with Tori, though, so she could pick and choose" Lizzie considered.

"That's such a lie, Elizabeth" Tori told her friend.

"It's not!" Lizzie denied.

"Alright, girls, don't fight" Louis said, and got up from the table, deciding he had had enough of the teenage drama "Eat your cookies in peace, I'm going to go do laundry".

As Louis walked away, he heard Tori say to Lizzie something like 'why would you say that in front of my mum?', which made Louis think that maybe what Lizzie had said was true. And honestly, that made him a little nervous, specially considering Tori was going to be 14 in a few months, so he knew he needed to have a talk with her soon, but just the two of them.

When Louis fishing setting up the washer, he remembered he hadn't checked his email in a while, so he quickly took out his phone, and right away he noticed he had a new email from the lab.

He took a deep breath before he opened the document, and when he saw what his hCG levels where, he was able to confirm that he was in fact pregnant, and he grinned.

Louis put his hand on his belly, and looked down, feeling so happy so that he wasn't even sure if he would be able to contain it. He quickly went inside his bedroom, where he was free to smile all he wanted, and he called Dr. Moore's office, to make an appointment for next week, as he wanted to check on his little baby as soon as possible, and make sure everything was okay.

But as soon as he ended the call, that was when suddenly the anxiety invaded him.

What if he lost this baby too?

No, he told himself, don't think about that.

Louis realized he really needed to tell Harry about this, knowing Harry would be better at calming him down, but he didn't want to tell him the news over the phone. So he knew he would just have to wait until he came home, and it wasn't long until that.

Except Harry texted him half an hour later, saying he wouldn't be home for dinner, as he had to work late, which happened sometimes, and it was no big deal.

So Louis had dinner with just Tori and Lizzie, who had decided to stay over when she saw what Louis was cooking. But her dad picked her up around 9, at which time Harry still hadn't arrived, so Louis decided to use the moment to have a little talk with his daughter.

"Tori?" Louis asked as he knocked on her door "Can I come in?".

"Yes" Tori replied.

Louis opened the door and found Tori laying down on top of the bed covers, and she was watching something on her laptop, but she closed it when she was her mum, and sat up on the bed.

"What?" Tori asked.

"Can we talk about something, love?" Louis proposed, and went to sit on the bed with her.

"What Lizzie said is not true" Tori was quick to say "She just likes to make up stuff like that".

"I believe you, but I think we should take this opportunity to talk about something" Louis told her.

"Mum, I know, we already had this talk" Tori rolled her eyes.

Louis knew Tori was talking about 'The Talk', which they had indeed already had, but now she was older, and she was experiencing new things, so he wanted to have a new talk about it.

And he honestly felt like it was important, because it was one of those things his parents hadn't done with him, and he had ended up pregnant at 14.

"I know, honey, but I think it's important that we talk about these things regularly, because when you're young things sometimes happen very fast" Louis explained "You might not like any boy right now, and maybe you won't like one in years, or maybe you might even realize you like girls-".

"I like boys" Tori cut him off "I mean, I don't like one specific boy, but in general, I like boys, not girls".

"Okay, that's good that you already know what you like" Louis smiled "And like I was saying, the day will come that you will really like a boy, and he might like you back, or he might not like you that much, and will just pretend he does because he wants to have sėx with you".

"Mum!" Tori screamed, and grabbed a pillow and buried her head in it.

Louis laughed, thinking how silly this girl was, but he understood her, if he had had a talk like this with his mum or dad at her age, he would have reacted the same way.

"I know this is embarrassing for you, but I need you to listen to what I want to tell you" Louis told her.

"I know all of this already, mum" Tori said, while her face was still buried in the pillow.

"Tori, look at me, please" Louis begged.

Tori unburied her face, and it was red as tomato, and Louis felt sorry for her, but he was still going to say what he wanted to say.

But Tori spoke before Louis could say anything.

"You don't have to worry about this, mum, I haven't even kissed a boy" Tori told him as she looked down at the pillow that had been on her face.

Louis thought that was the case, because Tori told him once that Lizzie had kissed a few boys, but she had never said anything about herself, so he wasn't sure.

"I understand that, love, but sometimes things can go from 0 to 60 very, very fast" Louis said knowingly "It's what happened to me, I was 14,  and I had my first kiss and lost my virginity in the span of a month".

Louis had never hid from Tori that he had been 14 when he got pregnant with her, not that it was hard to do the math.

"With my bio dad?" Tori asked shyly.

Tori had always known that Harry wasn't her biological father, they never hid it from her, and this wasn't the first time she asked about her biological father, she had first done it when she was 9.

And Louis was honest with her then, and told her his name, and that he had been a boy that had been on the school's football team with him, but that he wasn't ready to be a father, and so he had decided not to be part of her life.

She had asked more questions since, so he didn't have any trouble answering Tori's question now.

"Yes, it was him" Louis nodded.

"So he didn't like you? He was just using you?" Tori questioned.

"I think he felt attracted to me, but he didn't like me in the way I thought he did, and in the way that I liked him, but because I was young and a little naive I ended up doing something I wasn't ready for" Louis explained "And that happens a lot, but I don't want that to happen to you".

Tori nodded, but didn't say anything.

"And I'm not going to tell you to wait until you get married, or until you're in Uni, although I wish that was the case, but I'm not naive" Louis told her "Just try to wait until you're with someone that's worth it, okay? And don't ever do something you don't want to do, if you don't feel ready or if you don't want to, you say no, and if he pressured you, then he's not worthy of your time".

"Yeah..." Tori mumbled.

"One more thing, and this is the last of this embarrassing talk" Louis warned.

"What?" Tori laughed.

"Whenever you decide you're ready to have sėx, I want you to come to me and tell me, not so I can tell you not to do it, or to judge you, it's so I can get you on birth control" Louis said very seriously "Okay?".

"Yeah... okay" Tori accepted as she blushed again.

"Alright, that all" Louis said and kissed his daughter's forehead "Was that so horrible?".

"Kind of..." Tori replied.

Louis chuckled, as he got up from the bed, and said goodnight to Tori, and left her bedroom, closing the door behind him, knowing that Tori liked to have her door closed, and he was honestly fine with that.

When at 10:30 Harry still hadn't arrived, Louis decided to just get ready for bed, thinking he could just wait for Harry while watching a movie. But it seemed he was too tired, because he ended up falling asleep pretty soon after the movie started

But he woke up startled and disoriented when the bed moved.

"Babe?" Louis asked sleepily.

"I'm sorry I woke you" Harry whispered as he got in bed "Go back to sleep".

"I was waiting for you" Louis said, and yawned "What time is it?".

"Almost 1" Harry answered while Louis cuddled in his arms.

"Why are you home so late?".

"We have this big presentation on Monday, and today my boss decided he wanted to do changes to the project, and I thought it was best to work late today, than have to go in to work tomorrow or Sunday" Harry explained while he softly rubbed his back.

"Mmm" Louis hummed in agreement.

"Go back to sleep now" Harry said, and kissed his head.

"I need to tell you something, though" Louis told him.

"What is it?".

"I'm pregnant" Louis announced.

"What?" Harry asked, and suddenly turned on the lights.

"My eyes" Louis complained as he rubbed his eyes.

"Baby, are you serious?" Harry questioned.

"Yeah" Louis said as he stopped rubbing his eyes, and looked at his husband, one of his hands going to his belly "I took a home test, and a blood test confirmed it".

Harry grinned, and wrapped Louis in his arms tightly.

"I love you so much" Harry told him "And our baby, and Tori".

"I love all of you too".
