Tragedy

The ride back home was filled with silence.

Sunoo wouldn’t even sit beside him, and he let him sit at the back. Better than having him take a random taxi. He tried to apologise again, but Sunoo cut him off and told him he was tired.

He could see the way the younger was forcing his eyes shut.

Sunoo, on the other hand, was trying to stop his tears from flowing down.

Sunghoon started the engine drive away from his secret place.

‘First, I need to buy him a new phone,’

   ‘Then apologies,’

He gripped on the steering wheel, shoulders feeling heavier as time passed.

‘I need to make him stay with me,’

‘Did I go too far this time?’ He thought and watched the sleeping boy through the rear mirror.

As soon as Sunghoon parked the car, Sunoo opened his eyes and got out of it.

“Sun- “The door slammed in front of him, and he felt his entire world was turning upside down.

He wanted to stop the younger, beg him to stop being mad at him and for them to be happy again. Is it too much to ask for?

Sunghoon leaned his head on the steering wheel, thinking how to make up with Sunoo before getting out of the car.

When he entered the house, there was no sight of Sunoo, but he could hear shuffling sounds coming from Sunoo’s room, and he left him alone, not to anger him more with his presence.

Instead of sitting around in the living room, Sunghoon went to the kitchen and prepared the younger’s favourite foods. Tteokbokki, soy sauce marinated crab, everything he could think of.

Then he heard someone going down the stairs, “Sunoo-ya, let’s eat together,” he said as he placed the food on the dining table.
The younger didn’t respond to him, so he went to get him. Hoping that he had calmed down.

He watched Sunoo walking down the stairs, his heart beating fast when he saw what the younger was holding. A duffle bag.

“Let me pass, Hyung,” he said and looked away.

Sunghoon grabbed his hand, “Sunoo- “

“Let me go,” he said, pulling his hand away before Sunghoon grabbed it again.

His voice broke as he held on Sunoo’s hand desperately. “Don’t, please don’t do this to me. Let’s sit down and talk, hmm?”

Sunoo kept his sight on the floor, refusing to look at the latter as he might change his mind. “We got nothing to talk, Hyung,"

“Well, I have!” He shouted and held his hand tighter. It was unintentional; he never meant to shout at the younger.

Sunoo lifted his head and turned around to see the miserable man with a devastated expression on his face. He heard him mumbling, whispering to himself apologies to the younger.

“Hyung, I need some space. We need some space right now,”

Sunghoon’s mind was racing from hearing Sunoo’s words. Space? Is this his way of leaving him?

“We don’t. You’re just being overdramatic right now,” he shouldn’t have said that.

Sunoo couldn’t believe the bullshits he was hearing right now. He began to laugh, too loudly for Sunghoon’s liking, before stopping down and staring the latter straight in his eyes. “Overdramatic? then you’re overreacting, Hyung,”

   “I’m sorry- “

The younger smirked when he heard him apologising for the nth time today. Then he placed his hand on top of Sunghoon’s hand that was keeping him from walking away. “Isn’t it funny? The amounts of apologies we say to each other,”

When Sunghoon didn’t say anything, he continued, “Do we even like each other?”

Before Sunghoon could say anything, someone was knocking on the door.

The younger pulled his hand from the confused Sunghoon and opened the door, revealing Jay, who had his fist up like he was about to knock again.

   “Kim Sunoo, what- “

   “Let’s go, Jay Hyung,”

Sunghoon was standing there, frozen in his place and all he could do was stare at Sunoo passing his duffle bag to Jay.

“Sunoo, are you sure?” Jay looked at Sunghoon with a frown on his face. He saw Sunoo’s red eyes and guessed they fought before he arrived.

“Let’s go. I don’t want to stay here any longer,” he purposely said those loudly for Sunghoon to hear him.

Before closing the door, Sunoo stopped and said, “Take care, Hyung,”

[‼️Warning‼️]

In the car, Sunoo was being quiet, and Jay didn’t want to interrupt him, especially when he was being emotionally unstable.

Something was bugging him ever since they left the house. He felt like he had forgotten something. Something important.

“I never thought you had the gut to leave Sunghoon behind," Jay chuckled, trying to cheer the younger up, " he might be crying his eyes out right now,”

“Hey! It’s not like- “ All of the sudden, the misplaced gear in his head finally found its place. He remembered—the reason why he couldn’t leave Sunghoon even if he wanted to.

“I, turn, turn the car around,” His words come out as whispers, and Jay couldn’t catch what he was saying to him.

   “What did you say?”

“Turn the car around!” He couldn’t hide his fear anymore. How could he forget THAT?

Jay could see the fear in his eyes, like he had made a big mistake. “Relax- “

“Hyung, please, we need to return to the house!” He wished that he was wrong and that everything Sunghoon said to him was an empty threat.

Jay made a quick illegal turn and sped up.

Sunoo was looking paler and paler with every passing second.

They arrived at the house, and Sunoo rushed out of the car.

“Hey, wait for me!” Jay said and parked his car on the side of the road.

‘Did he forget something?’

Jay put his hand on his hip and tried to catch his breath before opening the door.

He heard sounds coming from the kitchen.

   “Why did you- “

He stopped on his track and kept his eyes on the scene unfolding in front of him.

A half-naked Sunoo was crying as he held someone in his arms. “Sunghoon Hyung, Park Sunghoon!” His voice cracked. He continued begging and begging for the person in his arms to wake up.

Jay’s eyes went to the floor. It was covered with something red. Blood.

   “…Sunghoon?”

🌻

Sunghoon eyes sting. Maybe it’s because he had been staring on the floor for the past few minutes.

He lifted his head and looked at the front door, “Sunoo?”

He waited for the younger to step inside and say that it was a prank only. He waited and waited, only to hear silence.

   Maybe he deserved this.

‘Do we even like each other?’

“I love you,” hot tears trickled on his cheeks.

   ‘Let’s go, Jay Hyung,”

In the end, he could never beat Jay. He could never be his number one.

‘I don’t want to stay here any longer,’

   “…”

Sunghoon wiped his tears and went to the kitchen, ‘I hope this will make him happy,’

🌻

Sunoo opened the door, and it was oddly quiet.

Sunghoon should’ve been clinging on him by now, but he was nowhere in sight.

He went to the living room, empty.

Then he looked at the dining table, empty too.

Then the kitchen.

He saw Sunghoon…on the red kitchen floor.

   ‘The floor was white,’

“Why are you on the floor?” He tried to remain calm, “It’s not funny. Get up,” he clenched his fists.

Everything was normal; there was nothing wrong—except for the used to be white, red-stained floor and his heart. It was pumping hard, making him dizzy.

   “Stop Joking around,"

He kneeled in front of Sunghoon’s body and took his hand. Sunoo saw the cut and started to tear up. He takes off his shirt and ties it hard on Sunghoon’s wound.

Then he remembered the conversation they had before,

'One, you will never leave me alone.' Sunoo nodded and glanced at Sunghoon. 'And the second one?' He asked.

"You need to keep the first promise," He said and stretched out his pinkie towards Sunoo. 'Promise?'

Sunoo linked his finger with the other. 'Promise,'

He had broken their promises before he even realised.

Sunoo was broken. He gathered Sunghoon gently from the cold floor and begged him to wake up with blurry eyes.

He heard Jay's voice but refused to look away because Sunghoon would fade if he left him again.

He thought to himself that Sunghoon wouldn't do this if he didn't break their promises.

Thus, it was all his fault.
