C.48 "Only if I were a princess."

~

"Hello, welcome t— Iida! Howdy!"
Nakashini exclaimed, beaming with joy as she waved to the gloomy Tenya.

"Hello Nakashini."
Tenya muttered, lifting his hand up slightly to try and wave back; only to fail.

It was a Sunday afternoon, Tenya was still repeating the same routine of constantly going in circles; the route that lead to the field, back to the dorms and vice versa.

Except today, Tenya felt thirsty, so he sprinted
to the nearest drug store for some orange juice.

"Oh, no. What happened?"
Nakashini asked, concerned.

"..._____ and I are no longer in a relationship."

"Oh dear...I'm sorry to hear that Iida."
She shook her head, hugging her arms.

A part of Nakashini was sad, for both you and Tenya; although another part of her was squealing with joy cause this meant one thing:

Tenya was single now.

And she was going to pick the right timing and
place to ask Tenya out on an innocent date once he was feeling better.

"Thank you for the concern Nakashini, do you mind if I buy some orange juice?"
He pointed to the back of the store where all the refrigerators were.

"Oh! No! Not at all! In fact, let me get it for you!"
She exclaimed.

Nakashini rushed to the back of the store,
swiftly grabbing a can of orange juice before sprinting back to the counter.

"Here you are, one orange juice! On the house."
She smiled emphatically.

"No, you don't have to Na—"

"Please, allow me."
Nakashini nodded her head, sliding the can to Tenya with a smile.

After hesitating for a moment,
Tenya nodded at Nakashini; thanking her for her generosity.

"Iida, if you feel like you need someone to lend an ear, I'm here before dusk because that is when my shift ends."
Nakashini beamed.

"Thank you Nakashini, I will consider your kind offer."
Tenya nodded once again.

As said before, Tenya had forgotten how to genuinely smile. Hell, he'd forgotten how to force a smile! And since he couldn't grin, he'd nod.

At almost everything.

—————————————————————————————

Lightly strumming his guitar,
Enomoto exhaled a puff of smoke.

The sky was orange and yellow as the sun set,
the wind blew gently through the tall grass and overgrown flowers.

Enomoto was sitting in a field of grass.

Right next to the large field (that seemed to go on forever) was a raggedy, bumpy road which had been there for ages and that probably led to out of town.

A large shadow overlapped the road and the field,
it was Enomoto's school's shadow.

The building was huge,
but leaving a large space at the back behind.

Leaning against a log with a fallen, tin trash can supporting his legs, Enomoto could hear the faint sound of footsteps. The sound increasing by the minute.

He was sceptical, sure,
but his lazy ass didn't bother to move.

The slow footsteps got closer and closer,
until they stopped. Enomoto could sense the owner of the footsteps were right behind the log.

He sighed, irritated.

He took another whiff from his cigarette as he stopped playing his guitar.

"I didn't know you could play the guitar."
You muttered.

"Never told you."
Enomoto replied, adjusting his cords, immediately recognising who the voice belonged to.

"What're you playing?"

"Why should I tell you?"

"Cause' I asked."

Enomoto merely sighed before running his hand through his hair.
"Don't you have to be somewhere else better than here?"

"Like what?"

"I don't know, a ball or something."
He grumbled, readjusting the cords again.

"Only if I were a princess."

"I thought you were one."

"I wasn't, but I use to feel like it."

"No shit, you sure as hell got the
looks and the background for it."
He spat, not messing around with the cords anymore as he leaned back against the log.

"But I never got the feeling."
You mumbled, sitting on the log next to Enomoto. His head by your waist.

"I thought you said you used to feel like one?"

"That was all before I decided to buy
all this cider and head over here."

"Why?"
Enomoto asked, not bothering to turn around.

You placed the baggy of cider on the ground,
right behind the log.

"I can't drink this stuff without a guardian supervisor or something among those lines."
You explained, sitting down on the log next to Enomoto.

You grabbed and cracked opened a bottle; taking a huge gulp of the cider before wincing at the strong taste.
"And I was gonna drink this illegally but since you're here I guess its okay."

"What? You actually think I'm responsible
enough to take credit for whatever the hell you're gonna do once you get wasted on that shit?"
Enomoto exclaimed, furrowing his eyebrows as he stared at his guitar.

"I don't know, but you're probably the only guardian I know who'd let me overdose on this stuff. I didn't think this through, I d'know. Want one?"
You grabbed a cider and held it right next to Enomoto's head.

"The hell is that?"
He grumbled again; grabbing the bottle.

"Kirin Fuji Apple Cider."

"No thanks, more of a scotch guy."
He muttered, putting the bottle by his side.

"No kidding, you sure as hell got
the looks and background for it."

"Thanks."
Enomoto sighed, taking one final whiff from his cigarette before putting it out and leaning forward.

He turned his head slightly,
enough to glimpse at your broken face.

"Wow. What the crap happened to you?"
He snorted.

"I woke up."
You deadpanned.

Your hair was still the same dandruff mess; eyes still bloodshot red; you had panda eyes and definitely a sore throat, but you kept talking and ignored the pain.

"Woke up from what? Hibernation? You look like a goddamn mess, like your hungover or some shit like that."
Enomoto continued, turning back around and leaning against the log.

"I woke up from a dream."
You sighed as you brushed the messy strands
of hair away from your face; meaning your words literally.

"What dream? Like a nightmare or some bullshit like that?"

"Kind of, a nice dream."
You shrugged.

"What's it bout'?"

"I was with my boyfriend on the beach.
The sun was bright and the weather was warm and everything was perfect."

"If it's such a perfect dream why do you
look like such a perfectly self-loathin' mess?"

"Cause' the dream just reminded me that it was all just in my head; like it can't happen in real life."
You said, the end of your sentence turning into nothing but a silent whisper.

"Why, is your boyfriend overseas or somethin' so that you can't do that beach crap with im'?"

"No,"
You weakly shook your head, eyes widening.
"He lives near me since we're in dorms now, but..."

You stayed silent for a while.

"Le' me take a wild guess,"
Enomoto sighed.
"He dumped you."

"Yup."

"Le' me take a wild guess, he dumped you."

'Wow, it sounds even worse when they're rolling off other people's tongue.'
You thought to yourself, talking more gulps of cider as you stare off into space.

"Slow down, you're gonna get drunk faster than with actual alcohol."
Enomoto lectured you, grabbing the bottle and tilting it down slightly.

Your eyes widened as you realised he was actually facing you now.

Enomoto then reached into his pocket to grab another cigarette out, lighting it before smoking again.

You glanced at his cigarette.

Suddenly,
a dangerous, unhealthy idea popped into your head.

You then placed your hand out, leaving it wide open.

"What? Why do y'want me to do, pull you down?"
Enomoto raised his eyebrow.

"The cigarette. I wanna smoke."

"NO! Are you f_ckin' insane?!
You're obviously underaged you dumbass!"

"So?"
You exhaled, trying to grasp for air as the tears started to form in your eyes once again.

Fat, crystal clear teardrops then smoothly rolled down your red cheeks. You chugged another big gulp of cider, almost finishing the bottle in one go.

"I just wanna numb the pain. I hate it."
Your voice cracked.

"I know. But we need the pain, that's what makes us human. But I relate to what you're saying, I kinda hate bein' able to feel emotions."
Enomoto grinned crookedly, leaning back on the log next to you.

You finished the cider and placed the
bottle by your side. You then took another one out from your baggy and cracked it open.

"T'be honest, you kinda remind me of myself when I was dumped by my girlfriend."

"You had a girlfriend?"
You mumbled.

"I know, surprising huh.
Anyway, she dumped me one day and I spent the whole week smokin' weed and gettin' wasted. Staying up till' five in the morning playin' heartbreak songs on my guitar.

I was such an dumbass."
He chuckled.

"Actually, I'm no different from the past but take it from me, it's gonna suck now but it'll get better soon. Remember how we first met?"

"How could I forget?"
Your groaned.

"Yeah, you bumped into me right
after the day Clare dumped me."

"Clare? Wow, pretty name."

"Pretty name, beautiful eyes, great kisser but terrible at commitment. Anyways, that's why I was such a jackass when we first met."

"Huh. How long did it take for you to get over her?"

"Four months."

"Not bad."

"Baby steps."
He smiled.

Enomoto started strumming his guitar once again,
he played She Used To Be Mine.

"You know Waitress?"
You raised a brow.

"The musical? Yeah; was a good show, I like the music."

"At least now we have something
else in common besides being dumped by our partners."

"Hm."
Enomoto hummed in response.

"T's not simple to say,
that most days, I don't recognise me.

And these shoes and apron, that place and its patron,
have taken more than I have em'."
He sang.

His voice was deep and matched the tune of the song nicely.

"It's not easy to know,
I'm not anything like I used to be, although it's true
I was never attention's sweet centre,
I still remember that girl."
You continued for Enomoto.

He was surprised by your ability to sing, but nevertheless continued.

"She's imperfect, but she tries.
She is good, but she lies.

She is hard on herself,
she's broken but won't ask for help.

She is messy, but she's kind.
She is lonely most of the time.

She is all of these, mixed up and baked in a beautiful pie.
She is gone, but she used to be mine."
You both harmonised together, except you changed the 'she's into 'he's.

Finishing the song,
it was safe to say that Enomoto's jaw had dropped.

Tenya drowsily slumped back home to seek for his parents's solace. His parents were in the kitchen fixing up a warm, homemade meal for Tenya.

As he waited in the living room,
sitting on the couch, he stared at the piano placed near the staircase. Frowning.

-8 Months Ago, Before the Holidays-
"Hey, I didn't know you had a piano."
You smiled.

"Yes, brother enjoyed playing the piano! He would always play it gracefully for the whole family, it was undoubtably soothing!"

"Do y'know how to play?"

"Only a few simple keys."
Tenya bashfulness smiled, scratching his nape.

"Likewise! Could you maybe play a few keys for me please?"
You grinned, excitedly clenching your fist.

"Are you sure? I'm still a beginner at this sophisticated instrument; it may not be too pleasing to hear!"

"Oh please, if it's coming from you it'll definitely sound pleasing."
You simpered, sitting on the edge of the seat, patting the remaining area of the patted, leather seat.

Tenya then sat next to you, observing the keys.

"If it'll make you feel better, I'll play some tunes too."
You grinned cheekily, gesturing your hand to yourself.

"Alright then, I am awfully curious to hear you play!"
Tenya shrugged.

"Likewise, I'll go first, then you."

"Alright."

You cracked your knuckles.

"That wasn't too bad."
You chuckled in surprise.

"I agree!"
Tenya nodded.

He then coughed stiffly into his fist before playing.

"Well, here I go."
Was all Tenya said before his hands started to professionally dance on top of the piano keys, moving quickly yet gracefully.

Your eyes widened with a big gasp as Tenya played,
his face seemed quite blank while doing so. As if it were a piece of cake.

Once he had finished,
you were about ready to slam your head onto the piano.

"MY LOVE!
HOW COME YOU DIDN'T TELL ME EARLIER?!"
You bursted out, doing almost a million hand gestures in one second.

"Tell you what?!"
Tenya flinched, surprised to hear you shouting at him.

"THAT YOU EXCELL AT PLAYING THE PIANO!
Hypothetically if things didn't work out with you being a pro hero you could be a pianist!"
You grinned, lightly punching Tenya on his arm.

Tenya's cheeks were tinted with a light pink, overwhelmed by your flattery and compliments.

"You should teach me sometime."
You smiled.

Tenya felt his heart flutter.
"Absolutely my bellflower."

-5 Months Ago, During The Start Of The Holidays-

Yours and Tenyas hands both synchronised
together perfectly, your fingers twirling around together, hopping from one key to another.

Tenya has been teaching you how to play the piano for about three months now, and needles to say, he was a great teacher!

To make playing the piano a tad more interesting (and definitely more romantic) Tenya had the absurd idea of offering you a kiss (depending on what you played, either a kiss on the forehead or the palm of your hand) every time you were able to play a tune correctly without hesitance.

And he had never seen you more determined to learn.

Let's just say you both ended every piano
-learning session with giggles, red faced and the feeling like your insides could turn to jelly.

-Present Day-
"Tenya, honey! Would you like t—"
Tenya's mother stopped talking the second she saw her son and his worsened state.

His elbows rested on his thighs, his hands held the top corners of his face as he couldn't show it.

Teardrops stained his pants.

"Sweetie, I'm so sorry..."
His mother whispered, sitting next to him and hugging him.
"I'm here for you Tenya, we all are. Your father, Tensei, all of us are here for you honey."

'Thank you' was all Tenya was able to murmur out.

—————————————————————————————

Not long after, the entire Hero Course Department and General Education Department has found out you and Tenya were no longer in a relationship, let alone found out you both were in one before.

Some said 'It was destined to never work out.' or 'Of course they broke up! I'm not surprised.'; while others said 'Too bad, how're they handling it?'.

Your classmates were kind enough to have sent you a cake they baked that looked like this:

On the other hand, Sato (and the rest of 1-A) baked Tenya a delicious pie that said:

A/N: imagine the 'I Am' as a 'We Are' ;3 thx

Needless to say the pie and cake were both absolutely delicious.

Your theatre friends made sure you got all the comfort and support you'd ever need; your maid Gima would also gladly offer you her hugs and ears anytime you felt like you needed to cuddle or rant.

You also got close to Enomoto; every time you drank cider he'd be your company. You learned his favourite colour, his favourite band; his interests and dislikes.

All in all; you were eternally grateful for everyone who helped you during your breakup.

Meanwhile; the entirety of Class 1-A (including Mr Aizawa) were protective over Tenya. Listening to him whenever he ordered the class to calm down; or to assist him by helping him carry the mountains of textbooks.

They'd give Tenya a fruit of some sort at least once a day, making sure he wasn't overdoing himself; making sure he got enough rest and wasn't up late studying.

Class 1-A would also help tutor Tenya on subjects he didn't understand while trying to help him with his activities so he wouldn't be so tired and stressed out all the time.

Bakugo and Jiro had also made the extra effort that the whole class would be no where near Class 1-B, more specifically, that the whole class would be no where near Monoma.

Knowing he was going to be insensitive and
would degrade Tenya, lowering his self-esteem when it was only suppose to become higher.

Whereas Tenya's parents would be Tenya's shoulder to lean on; when he needed emotional support they were there.

Once Tenya was back on his feet; he thanked anyone who had helped him and even offered to buy them dinner.

This slow process of healing took both you and Tenya around three months, but it was worth it.

You and Tenya had accepted the fact that you were both no longer in a relationship and had to get over each other; you both had finally completely gotten over each other.

Maybe not completely, but, partially.

A/N: Thanks for reading! Hope u had a blast! :)) exams r coming and I'm scareeeddd :0, anywho, see y'all in the next chapter sorry if the ending for this chapter sucked, stay happy and hydrated!!
