chapter eleven

AN: I struggled with inspiration for this for so long...sorry if this update isn't the greatest.

Well guess who couldn't get a blink of sleep last night? That's right; me. Xing Cai's words still bounce around in my head.

You have to confess your feelings for him, (Y/N).
I cover my face with my pillow, moaning pitifully.

"(Y/N)! You're not chickening out of this. Wake yourself up, or else I will!" Xing Cai's clear voice resonates through my screen door. The last thing I needed was for Xing Cai to "motivate" me awake. Throwing aside the sheets, I roll out of bed. Zhang Fei's daughter lets herself in, silently closing the screen door behind her.

"Don't look at me like that," she scolds, folding her arms. "Clothe yourself and go talk Master Zhao Yun. I'm making Guan Ping wait..." She frowns. I can't help but smile.

"Sounds like someone's got a crush on Master Guan Piiiiing," I singsong, swishing my hips for effect. Xing Cai shoots me a glare that could slice through iron. I realize saying anything else might kill me, so I hurriedly finish dressing myself.
"But what am I supposed to say to him?" I ask while trying to pull my shirt on over my head. When my head pops through the neck, all I can see is Xing Cai shaking her head side to side.
"Do you need me to hold your hand too? Just tell him how you feel."
I slip on my boots one at a time.

"I know that," I sigh. "But what exactly am I supposed to say?" Xing Cai rubs her temples with the tips of her middle and index fingers. Oh great, now I'm giving her a migraine first thing in the morning.

"I don't know what else you want me to do for you, (Y/N)," she grumbles. I nervously run a hand through my tangled hair and then wrap both arms around my torso, squeezing slightly.
"I'm sorry for putting all of this on you, Xing Cai. Truth be told, I'm scared, well, terrified is a better way to put it. You're really one of the only people I trust..."
Silence.
"Oh (Y/N)...you are the biggest sap," Xing Cai huffs. She crosses the few steps in between us and pulls me into a hug. Xing Cai pats my back comfortingly a few times.
"Looks like I'm stuck helping you out then."
I squeeze Xing Cai and bounce up and down excitedly.
"Oh thank you thank you thank you! What can I ever do to repay you, Xing Cai?!" Xing Cai places strong hands on my forearms, forcing me to stop jumping.
"You could always stop choking me before I can help you," she says with a smirk. I let go of her, still ecstatic by the prospect that she was going to help me.
"But I'm not going to bail on my training session with Guan Ping."
I tap my chin in thought.
"Well I think I've got an idea then."
