Chapter 11: Stranger

Since she didn't know how to work the check-out, Jimin had Haeyoon work on restocking the shelves.

As Haeyoon placed the cans on the shelves, the memory of Jimin giving a peck on her cheek echoed through her mind. Even though it didn't look like it, she liked it.

She liked the way his soft lips quickly pressed onto her cheek. She wished it would've lasted longer. Once she realized what she was thinking about, Haeyoon shook her head. No nasty thoughts, Haeyoon. Just get back to work.

Haeyoon climbed down the stool, picking up the empty cardboard box. Suddenly, she bumped into someone. It was an older man who looked in his mid-forties. He was dressed in a fancy business suit and carried a black suitcase. "I'm so sorry sir." Haeyoon apologized, bowing."

The man chuckled. "It's okay." his eyes traveled all over her body, giving Haeyoon chills. "You know, you look a lot like Lee Jisoo. Are you a relative or something?"

"Well, um..."

Suddenly, Haeyoon felt arms wrapping around her waist and hugging her right. She looked up and saw Jimin.

He wasn't wearing his signature smirk.

"Sir, if you're gonna buy something, go ahead. But if you're not, " he leaned his head on Haeyoon's shoulder. "You should leave."

The man chuckled. "Right. See you later Mr. Park. And I hope to see you again, ma'am." the man bowed and walked out of the store.

Once he was out of sight, Haeyoon twisted out of Jimin's grasp. She glared at him. "Why did you do that? I had it handled on my own."

Jimin rolled his eyes. "When your mom worked here then a man would come to the store every day just to see her. He didn't even buy anything. So I keep a watchful eye on him every time he comes in."

He put his fists on his hips. "I expect a thank you."

Haeyoon's scoffed. "Why do I need to thank you?"

"Didn't your parents teach you manners? You're stubborn." Jimin paused, then be smirked "Unless you kiss me on the cheek; I count that as a thank you."

"No. Thank you for saving me."

After a few hours, Haeyoon's workday was finished. As Haeyoon climbed into Chanki's car, Jimin waved and said, "I'll bring you with me tomorrow. You did some very productive work, baby!" Haeyoon rolled her eyes and closed the door.

"Jimin must be a good boyfriend," Chanki said on the way home. "Oh no, he's not my boyfriend. I would never date that jerk." Haeyoon said.

"But Sojung said he was your boyfriend though. She told me how much you blush and get embarrassed when he gives you compliments." Chanki sighed and smiled. "It reminds me of my days in high school."

Haeyoon rolled her eyes. "Yeah, all of that is false. Sojung lies."

"Point taken."

Finally, Chanki pulled up in front of Haeyoon's house. Haeyoon said goodbye and walked inside the house. She saw Sunghwan sitting on the couch, reading a book.

Haeyoon cleared her throat and Sunghwan looked up. "Oh, hey Haeyoonie, I didn't hear you come in," he said. "How was work?"

"Why did you send me to work with him?" Haeyoon asked, tapping her foot in frustration.

"Answer my question first."

"No, answer mines."

"I asked how was work."

"And I asked why you send me to work."

"You're so stubborn."

"I'm the one stubborn? You're more stubborn than me!"

"Your mother is the most stubborn out of all of us." Suddenly, the pair paused and busted into laughter. "Imagine if she was here right now!" Haeyoon laughed.

"Yeah! She'll be like 'I am not stubborn. You fools are the stubborn ones!" Sunghwan said, imitating Jisoo's high-pitched voice.

Once the two calmed down, Haeyoon sat next to her father and leaned on his shoulder. "To be honest, working with Jimin isn't that bad. He showed me how to organize everything and how to stock the shelves. He was even patient with me when I asked all of those questions." She decided not to tell him about the encounter with the fancy business suit man, hopefully not ever.

"That's good." Sunghwan nodded. "The reason I sent you to work with Jimin was that your mom requested it."

Haeyoon looked at him. "What? Really?"

"Yep. She said since you didn't have a job, she sent you in her place so you could understand how to work with others and how the future will be like. You're graduating soon anyway."

The two sat quietly for a while, watching the show on TV. Then both of their stomachs start to growl. "Should we order a pizza?" Sunghwan asked.

"Yes. I got it covered, Dad." Haeyoon walked away to the kitchen. Sunghwan stared at her in shock.

"Did she just call me...'Dad?'"

Jisoo was reading a book when her phone started ringing. She smiled when she saw the caller ID. "Hey, Sunghwan."

"Jisoo, you'll never believe what happened."

"What happened? It must b good because you sound happy."

"Haeyoonie finally called me 'Dad!'"

Jisoo laughed. "I can see why you're happy. Did she say anything else afterward or realized what she said?"

"Not at all."

"I'm glad you two are getting along. I was worried because both of you guys have the same personality; stubborn as mules."

Sunghwan laughed. "You're the most stubborn out of all of us, though."

Jisoo blushed. "What? That's not true! You fool, you're more stubborn than me!"

"Ok then. Well, I'll let you go to bed now. I need to finish cleaning."

"Alright. Goodnight."

"Goodnight, Jisoo. Sweet dreams." Jisoo hung up the phone, cheeks burning bright red. "I get flustered easily; he always does this."

Suddenly, Jisoo felt a sharp pain in her chest, near her heart. She laid back down in bed, breathing out controlled breaths. My time is running out faster than I expected. This is the third chest pain that happened today. She thought.

I hope Haeyoonie calls soon.

I want to hear her voice.
