Chapter 10

The cold air blew in my face as I stared at what was once my home. I heard a low growl, and recognized it as Vence's. Both of us were pissed at the world right now. Roderick even struggled to calm me.

"Ow!" I said loudly. It felt like Vince had pinched my back. Then I felt it again. "Stop Vince," I turned to see him standing ten feet away.

He wasn't touching me... No one was touching me. I felt my back to see if bugs were on me or something. Nothing, there was nothing.

"What's wrong with you?" Vince laughed as I frantically felt all over my back to find out what was wrong.

"Roderick, where's Roderick?!" I yelled.

He heard me scream and came around the corner of the woods scratching his own back.

"I got into some poison ivy and it's killing me!" he stood up next to a tree and began to scratch his back.

"Stop, stop..." I said, for the pain on my back hurt like hell.

"What's wrong?" he stopped and walked next to me.

"I could feel everything you could," Vince who was standing next to me, pulled my neck to the side and nodded his head.

"He bit you on the neck; where only true mates are able to bite without dying. If he wasn't your mate and bit you there, you would have died. Anyways, you two are intertwined with each other. Therefore if you do something painful, he will feel it. Same the other way."

Shit, he will feel the pain when Isabella and I fight... ugh. I should tell him, I should tell all of them. A shot rang throughout the woods and my thoughts vanished.

"The alpha is dead," the boys whispered down the line of people.

No, I cannot tell anyone about the fight. Isabella screwed with the wrong pack and is going down.

We all walked to the edge of the woods, where we could see the people. They looked so frightened as the sons of the alpha tried desperately not to cry over the sight of their dead father. I couldn't bare to look at the dead alpha. Yes, I didn't like him originally, but he is the alpha of my own pack. What can I say?

I began to walk away from the scene when I heard Roderick roughly say, "Run. Don't ask, run."

I obeyed his command and ran away while clutching his hand. After we were a good bit away from them, Roderick tugged my hand for me to stop.

"What is it?" I panted.

"I heard them talking, and they're blaming you for the death of the alpha and anything else Isabella and her pack do. Marcus thinks you're lying about something and Vince is the only thing keeping them from killing you."

The news pierced my heart, by I didn't let the true concern I had show on my face. I shook my head and thought about what needed to be done. "They'll be dead by morning," I muttered in a low growl.

"Don't do it Erin," Roderick pleaded. "Whenever you free all the captives, you can have your vengeance then."

"You're case is very convincing, and I'm sure it could persuade many humans," I paused. "Too bad I'm not a human..." I smirked a little, continuing forward.

"I'm sorry Erin. Maybe one day you will forgive me," he whispered.

Before I knew it I was lying on the ground. Probably a dream, I thought. I had my hands and feet tied together. My vision was hazy but I smelled the smoke of burning leaves and sticks - the smell was so familiar from the other night. Confused, I tried desperately to escape from wherever I was. A hand was placed over mouth while another person tightened my ropes.

The will to get away was strong. I started my tactics to kill the people holding me down, but Roderick kneeled down and stared into my eyes. I was so confused as to what was happening, but I believed Roderick's words.

"Erin, focus on nothing more than me and my voice," I tried to listen only to him, but his voice was groggy and barely audible.

I glanced around and saw Vince and Ethan. Ethan!

"Ethan?" I said lowly.

"Hello my love. Sorry we got off on the wrong foot. How has it been?"

I sat in terror and shock at what I saw.

"How are you alive?" I nervously asked.

He said nothing but just stared at me.

"Please, go to Isabella so she will stop doing all of this!" I pleaded.

"And miss the big fight between you and Isabella? Everyone knows about it, and everyone knows you're going to loose..." he grinned evilly.

"How...how...did, you...know?" I choked.

Before I knew it I was shaken out the dream I just had and taken back to reality where Roderick was lording over me. I couldn't open my eyes, no matter how hard I tried. It was like they were bricks glued shut. Why am I so weak? I couldn't move. I felt paralyzed.

"Erin, wake up! Please, I love you," tears rolled down my cheeks that were not my own. My senses were unidentifiable and I started to feel pain all over my body. What was once faint prickles all hit me at once. The pain was overcoming and in an instant I was alive and breathing.

"Roderick," I gasped. I placed my hand hand on top of his. "What..." I was too frail to say anything more.

Relief washed over his face as he held steady pressure on my hip. "I knocked you out so you wouldn't go back to the camp, but they came and found you, and while you were sleeping they tried to kill you."

"The rouges?" I asked hoarsely.

"No, they people belonged to Isabella. I couldn't fight them Erin. I am so sorry, there were so many," he started to tear up again so I shook my head for him to stop.

"Don't worry, I will heal. The heat..." I leaned forward, spitting blood everywhere.

"Erin," he stroked my hair and looked at me lovingly.

We laid on the ground for about five minutes before I was healthy enough to stand up. I took a couple of deep breathes and hugged Roderick.

"Thank you for taking care of me."

He nodded his head in recognition and squeezed me tighter. It was then I decided to tell Roderick about the fight between Isabella and me.

"Are you going to follow through with it?" he looked concerned.

"What choice do I have? The fight isn't until tomorrow night and Isabella has already hunted me down and injured me to show she is very serious about our promise."

He sighed, "Well you're not going alone. I'm going to be there for every bit of it."

"But that's cheating. How about you wait until I give you a signal and then you come and help me?"

"Alright, I can do that. But what if you're hurt?"

"If I'm hurt, just fight her off until I heal. Her wolf will be controlling her every move, so she will be nearly impossible to defeat."

We both knew what we had to do. Roderick wasn't the best fighter, so until early in the morning we trained as hard as we could. Thankfully he learns very fast. I slept next to Roderick, peacefully resting, knowing I had a good partner for the fight tomorrow night.
