Part 87

Kirks POV

Freen left the room and I'm trying my best to wake Liza up. Her breathing is shallow and there's nothing I can do except monitor her heartbeat. The guards came along with our doctor. She looked at Liza and immediately told me that Liza needed to go to the hospital. She can't help here.

I agreed without consulting Grandma. "I'll suffer the consequences later" We carried Liza to the ambulance that is owned by us. We are near the hospital when suddenly we lost Liza's heartbeat. The doctors are quick enough to help us as they try and bring Liza back. As soon as Liza reached the emergency room they asked me about her details.

I tried my best to dodge their questions and asked for privacy. The truth is I cannot tell who Liza is. She works for us for a reason. With a caring and kind heart you will find it surprising why she's with us, doing what she likes the most- saving life while we on the other hand take it. Well, During her doctor's days Liza accidentally killed a patient by giving him the wrong medicine. It wasn't her fault though. The director's daughter who worked under the hospital made a mistake and shifted the patient's profile for fun.  Liza was tired and just followed what the chart said, so she administered the wrong medicine which causes the patient to die of drug overdose. The patient's family was so shocked and mad that they sued the hospital but the hospital pinned all the blame on Liza. This causes her license to be revoked and became a criminal. Liza spent her 3 months in jail and that's when Grandma found her and helped her. To prove that Grandma is a person who can help Liza, Grandma uses all her business connections and the next thing i know the hospital Liza worked for  suddenly filed for bankruptcy and the people who hurt and betrayed her were killed. Grandma then helped Liza to escape in prison. To make sure that Liza's loyalty lies within us Grandma didn't help clear her criminal records even if she has the power to do so. She helped Liza hide though by working with us until the case went cold.

If they find out who Liza is surely the police will come and arrest her since she's still a wanted criminal. I promise Freen that I will make sure Liza is going to be alright and that's exactly what I'll do.  I have no intentions of failing so  I have to do everything to prevent them from revealing her identity. I just need to finish the surgery and after that I will sneak her out.

Freen's POV

I went out of Liza's room crying holding the memory card Kirk gave me. I went to my room and locked the door. I remember Liza's words saying that Rebecca didn't order to kill me and I refuse to believe it, cause believing it causes me to have hope, and having hope  is weakness and being weak means losing and I can't lose. I looked at the memory card with a lot of doubts. But then Liza's words came replaying through my mind for the nth time. "Rebecca didn't order to kill you. I bet my life on that." I took my memory card reader and inserted it on my laptop. I took a deep sigh before playing what's inside. "Won't hurt to try and see, right?"

I played the two files and I was crying when I learned that Rebecca always wanted to reach out. I felt happy that the reason why she was with the short guy was because of me. She wanted to talk to me in person even if it's just a moment "I misunderstood her, she genuinely cares for me. How can I be so fucking stupid." I'm scolding myself for being stupid and  for acting aggressive towards Rebecca.

Thinking about her gave me relief with a smile on my face "She doesn't hate me, she cares for me. She genuinely cares for me" the smile then was eventually gone when other negative emotions came with it. I started to ask questions and eventually the smile  was crushed as i dive deep into my curiosity and began asking questions.

"If Rebecca didn't order to kill me, who did? Why was the call and the video turned out to decieve me?" Curiosity then slowly changed into frustration and anger. The more questions I ask the more angry I become. I'm trying to come up with an answer and the only conclusion I can think of is betrayal from my own circle. I don't want to accept it but it's the only logical answer I can come up with. "Kirk where are you?"

The hardest job for me is waiting, the clock moves so slow like it knows your being impatient so it moves more slower, mocking you in the face. It's been exactly 48 hours and Kirk didn't come back yet. Grandma didn't notice yet that Kirk is gone since she went abroad the same day Kirk sent Liza to the hospital.

It's funny how waiting becomes the most exhausting job despite doing nothing. I am tapping my finger on my table while  looking at my clock counting every second when I heard a knock on my door. I abruptly stood up to open the door and I saw the very person I was waiting. Kirk gave me a sweet smile and hugged me tightly.

Kirk: I miss you Freen.

As much as I want to get my answers back I don't want to be rude to Kirk so I reciprocated his hug. After all, I feel the same way.

Freen: I miss you too. How is Liza?

Kirk: (smiling). She's okay as promised. She's in her room resting. Want to see?

I was happy to hear that news. It's one of the best news I had. I smiled in relief and Kirk held my hand as he guided me to the basement where Liza is. There I saw Liza sleeping. She looked better and peaceful. I sat beside her bed and a  tear flowed down my cheeks with an overwhelming guilt. I held her hands tightly cause it's the only thing I can do.

A few minutes after Kirk held my shoulder and pat it in comfort. Telling me it's gonna be okay. We shared a moment of comfortable silence until Kirk sat beside Liza facing me.  I'm dying to ask Kirk about my questions but I chose to cherish this moment with Liza. I looked at Kirk and I noticed that he was wearing the same clothes last two days ago. He looked so haggard and his eyes were half closed from getting sleepy. I took a blanket and put it on his shoulder giving him a reassuring smile that he can rest for now. I went back to my sit until I feel myself getting sleepy as well.

Lisa's POV

Kirk and I are awake and Freen is sleeping beside me. We've been discussing how to tell Freen the truth. We've been whispering since we don't want Freen to wake up which she did cause we began to get loud. We automatically went silent and I saw Freen smiling at me genuinely. I felt her warm embrace which I reciprocated happily. She cried as she apologized to me.  I can't stay mad at her so I forgave her. We actually spend the time together with Kirk for the whole day. Kirk ordered a lot of food and we ate them while playing different games. We reminisced about the past and had a good laugh. These moments are one of the happiest that I will cherish forever but of course you can't be happy forever. Everything is now serious and I knew this is the moment I've been dreading the most.

Freen: (serious voice) Kirk

Kirk: (smiling) I know. As promised I will answer your questions. You're gonna hate me after this but it's the right thing to do. Just know that I am really sorry for everything.

I saw Freen getting curious and nervous at the same time. Kirk gave me a sad smile but I just nodded my head as a support and encouragement.

Kirk: (holding Freen's hand) I will tell you what I know. You also need to sit this one out.

Freen immediately sat down with a serious face. Kirk made sure to have a little bit of space cause we don't know how Freen would react. Kirk begins to tell his story and Freen is listening intently. As  Kirk goes deeper in his explanation, the information was becoming hard to swallow especially the involvement of her Grandmother. I noticed Freen getting pale, she then shook her head in disbelief.

Freen: (cracking voice) I must have heard you wrong.. No, I heard you wrong... I know I did.. I... ca....can you tell me the last part again?

Freen is stuttering and with a heavy heart Kirk repeated his words to Freen and this time he emphasized it more.

Kirk: (sad tone) Grandma ordered and planned everything Freen, she ordered those men to beat you to death that's why we're able to save you on time. Grandma is behind all of this, she started this plan ever since we were in New York. Even Nita is part of the plan. From the evidence that Rebecca has against you, to your arrest, to you having that talk to Rebecca, to your freedom, it was all Grandma's doing.  The detectives, the police the judge, the prison. Everything is staged. You weren't supposed to be arrested like a dog. Rebecca requested a quiet arrest but Grandma ordered the detectives to shoot a gun so people will treat you way more aggressive. She wanted you and Rebecca to stay away from each other. I'm sorry. I'm sorry Freen, I'm sorry that I was part of it. I thought I was helping you but I was wrong. I'm sorry.

Kirk finished his story and Freen sat there frozen in surprise and shock. I even have to come close shaking her a little bit to snap her out of her trans. She then held my hand like her life depends on it and she asked Kirk one more question.

Freen: What did you do? What's your role in all of this?

She looked really hurt. you can see fear and pain through her eyes and she sounded calm but you can notice the contempt in her voice.

Kirk: (without hesitation) I was the one who delivered the evidence to Rebecca and I was the one who took and edited the evidence to make you believe that Rebecca wants you dead and that she is with another man.

Kirk came near Freen and kneeled in front of her as he kept on apologizing while tears flowing down his eyes. Freen let every information sink in and as soon as she did she retaliated. She pushed Kirk hard and started to slap, kick and punch him with heavy blows. Kirk didn't fight back and he received everything that Freen throws at him He didn't even dodge those attacks. He just stood there while his head is looking down.

I let Freen vent out her anger until she stopped and started to scream in pain. She's crying so loud that her screams echoes through my heart giving me goosebumps and heartache. I can literally hear her pain with every scream. I hugged her tight and that's when I felt her body loosing strength until she fainted.

"Truth always hurts, but it will also set you free"
