Land ho!

"Toby, you got to narrow it down." Paige asked.

"Hey, were working with a half eaten hogie and a piece of chalk, it's not like we're mind readers." Toby said.

"It's like... a mini mall." Sly rushed to his desk as Toby responed, "You are finally insane".

Then, Sly brought up a brilliant idea, saying that since the minutes of Sly's  stupid song and the coordinates that matched that Walter said. As, Sly figured out the coordinates for the submarine. I guess that song finally had a purpose, besides being annoying and really, really catchy.

As we hung up with Paige and Sly called another phone number that I did not recognize.

"Cabe, I can't believe your alive." Sly expresses in shock as I scoff.

Cabe started to explain what they needed, "We can celebrate later, I need and air tank and fast, a heater, a wedge from a tow truck..."

In my mind screen, I list all of the supplies that we need that Happy requested.

"Wait, a minute. " I say. "How do you think Happy thought we would get these supplies?" I question Cabe.

"Happy's father should have most of these supplies." Toby said as  Toby and Sly walked toward to exit.

"Your going to stay here and hold the fort while we handle this. " Toby said.

"But-" I start, but Toby cuts me off.

"No, your staying here and that's final." Toby said in a stern voice as he exits the garage, excluding me out of all of the fun, exciting stuff.

I groan and throw my hands up in defeat. " Why do I even try?" I say. "I bet the just kept me because they felt bad for me." I walk over to my room and take out my computer, phone, and tablet. I carry them all down stairs and plop myself on the couch, and start to follow Toby and Sly's taxi to Happy's Dad by hacking into the cameras. I decide to make some microwave popcorn and got some Sprite from the fridge as I kick my feet up on the table, scrolling and clicking every so often to keep track of the taxi that Toby and Sly are in.

Then, they stop at a place which I assumed was where Happy's father either worked or  lived in. It's possible that it could be both. The walk into the shop and I lose sight of them as that was the only camera close to the shop. I try to move the camera around, and try different angles to see if I can get a better look at to see what are Toby and Sly are doing. Three minutes past as I gave up and leaned back into my chair as I reach for my Sprite and just as I was about to drink it something yelled in my ear.

"Kardia!"

I jumped in response as my Sprite was dumped all over my shirt. Wonderful.

"Hello?" I called out I got up from the chair and looked down at my now Sprite smelling shirt.

"I know that you are watching us from the camera Kardia, I'm not that dumb." Toby said as I walk over to my computer screen and see Toby staring right at me.

"Well, that's debatable." I mumbled as I cleared my throat to cover up my little saying.

Toby looked around and then looked at me. "Well look, we are going to go into the ocean- ."

I scoff. "Tell me something I don't know".

Toby glared at me, or at the camera. "Don't be a smart ass, that's me."

I shook my head and laughed. " Then you better watch out because I'm going to take over."

"Smart, hiding your feelings with humor. Great trick." Toby said.

Caught. Off. Guard. I struggle to find to words to make a sentence. "Shut up Toby, just get back to work."

I rip off my com from my ear and slam it on the desk where the computer was, as I walk away from that desk, not bothering turn off them or even change it to a different screen. I walk upstairs to my room to change my shirt that is filled with Sprite.

I tug off my shirt and throw it on the bed so I'm only left with my bra. At least that didn't get wet. I find a red,  short-sleve shirt that strikes my interest as I put it on. I pass one of the big, full-length mirrors that are in my room, and hestaint. I turn and face the mirror, as I pull out some light pink lipgloss and put it on. I breathe in and out as to try to be known as condifdent and independant. I stare at the mirror as I started to remember of a memory that I had forgotten.

Flash Back..

Sadie was staring at the mirror, fixing her hair, checking out her hair, and making sure her lipstick wasn't smudged. I was twirling my hair scrolling on my phone, checking what's new on ifunny, while chewing minty gum. I glance back up and still see Sadie checking herself out in the mirror. Sadie was wearing her red hair down, which was wavy. She wore a rock band T-shirt with big arm holes that showed her black bra. A pair of distressed jeans and black combat boots.

I scoff and roll my eyes. " Sadie, it's time to go, we have a mission to do."

Sadie didn't even glance at me when I talked to her. " Five more minutes."

I pop a bubble in my gum. "You said that three minutes ago." I wait for her to move. " Come on Sadie, we have a misson to do!"

"Come here." Sade directed, holding out her hand for me to grab, her grass green eyes still fixed on the mirror. I tuck my phone away in the back pocket, and walk curiously toward Sadie and take her hand. She moves me in front of the mirror, me intaking her smell. She had her hands on my shoulders.

"You always wonder why I spend so much time in the mirror just before we got out, right?" Sadie asked as she played with my blonde hair. I nod.

"It's because, I have to practice my looks before I got out and be a badass redhead. You have to prepare yourself and practice how to act, how you speak and how other view you." Sadie explained. "Especially when a young girl like you has to be an adult. You have to make sure when you glare, they get scared. When you use humor, you have to make sure they laugh so hard they will forget the question they were about to ask you."

Sadie made me turn around as she fixed my hair. "So, practice how you act in the mirror. It helps."

End of Flash Back.

I shake out of my daze as I realized my phone was ringing in my pocket. I pull it out and see the number I've dread. I anwsered the call as they finally alert me of something I've hated to do. I hang up as soon as the social worker was done talking  and gave me the address. I look one last time in the mirror as I could feel Sadie's hands on my shoulders, talking to me in front of the mirror. I force myself to walk away from the mirror and head downstairs to see if Toby and Sly left Happy Father's auto shop and head to the submarine.

I clean up some of the soda that didn't hit me and instead it the chair or the floor. I could leave it sticky, but then that would be horrible. So, I clean it up the best that I could with the cleaning supplies that I found. After I'm done with that, I start to finish my popcorn and start to look up some videos on youtube and also angry that I didn't get to go on their little trip.

After 10 minutes pass by, an idea pops in my head. It's a bad idea, it could get me in huge trouble but I don't care, as the trouble maker smile on my face cannot be taken off. I run back upstairs, taking the steps two at a time as I'm rushing with excitement. I run into my walk-in closet, as I open and close shoe boxes, trying to figure out which one is which, one I open the one I know is going to be what I need inside it.

I side out the shoe box and smile. I walk out of the closet, holding the box in my arms and placing it on my bed. I open the box and start grinning like an idiot and put the lid down on the bed and I hold up a drone on eye level. Oh, this was going to be fun. I quickly grab the controller, and find a mini camera and rush back downstairs, yelling, "Kardia is back in the game, bitches!"

I duck tape the mini camera onto the drone and hook it up to my computer so I know hat direction I'm using. I realize that I forgot one of my flash drives to do this. I run back upstairs to my desk that is facing the window. I open and close drawers until I find a small little box with erasers. Or so they look like. Got it from a DIY video, you put your flash drive inside the erasers. When you live in the warehouse that I was living, you did anything to make an object that could be dangerous look like a Barbie doll. I take all 15 erasers out  of the small box. Each one of them is for the member of the team, including Ralph. I also have two extras, just in case. I open each eraser to see which has Toby's name on it. I find the one that has Toby's name written on the inside,  put all the others back into the box and shove it back in the drawer that it was in before.

Your probably wondering, where in the hell did she had time to do that?!

My response: I got bored.

I rush back downstairs as I'm holding Toby's flash drive. I glance at my com that's at the corner of the desk thinking, should I tell them? I shook my head. I'm not going to tell them. I put the flash drive into my computer, waiting for it to download. I'm not going to discus how to track a person, because you really  shouldn't do it. I'm tracking Toby. By the one thing that he always wears. His hat. Yes, their is a tracker in Toby's hat. Sorry. I actually put one on everyone so I know where they are at all times. Yup, you can say it.

OMG Kardia, that's soo weird! You are such a stalker.

And I say to that, I don't give an F. So, take the L and leave.

Wait, did I just roast you? Oops.

Right! I should get on with the story before you get bored again. Sorry.

I download that to the drone's software, grab my computer, a few snacks and drinks, my phone, the drone, the controller and hestaintly my com, as I walk up to the roof of the building. I place it all on a table, my phone showing me where Toby is at. I place the drone on the floor as I grab the controller and grip it tight. I get the drone to fly high in the air and so far away that I couldn't see it anymore. That was the problem. I had a camera that could do a 360, but I was still nervous because if birds attack it, I might not be able to get it up in the air again.

Then, I started to hear a squaking sound. I turn up the volume on the computer, and that's when I realized it. I jinxed it. I rotate my camera to behind, and what do I see? I flock of sea birds.

"Aw, crap." I muttered as I pull down on one of the buttons on the controllers, glancing every few seconds at Toby's location and the camera. I was going low and fast, rotating my camera a 360 at times to make sure I wouldn't be getting any surprises, but that flock of sea birds just kept finding me until I was close to Toby's location. I finally approach Toby's location. I put it on speaker so it would come from the drone. They were on a ship and Happy, Walter and Cabe were alive.

And then a gun was pointed at my drone. And then three.

"Woah, woah, woah, woah!" I say. "Don't shoot me! It's me Kardia!" I say, hoping that they wouldn't shoot the drone.

"Kardia?!" Toby exclaimed. " How the hell did you get a drone?!"

"Uhhh, I'm not going to answer that question, but can you please tell those three men with their guns pointing at me to stop pointing them at my drone, because it took me a long time to get here and the sea birds are horrible, so can you?" I say.

The men put their arms back into their pockets as our conversation goes on.

"How did you find out our location?" Walter asks. I roll my eyes as to how dumb that question sounded.

"Walter, I have a 210 IQ, I think I can remember a few coordinates." I response in a monotone voice. I clear my throat. "Any way, can I land this drone?"

They all nod as they make room for the drone as I place it nicely onto the floor. I put down the controller on the table as the cool breeze from the ocean hits me. I breathe in the salty air as relieve goes in and out of me. Walter picks up the drone and talks to me - or it or whatever you like to call it. I get passed around so everyone could talk to me on what happened - or they would give me a lecture on how dangerous this was and what could happen if I got caught. I didn't really listen though. When that happened, I just went on my mind screen, because who really does listen in lectures. Especially,  when you heard them so many times?

When they finally got on land, I decided to turn the drone off because it was getting late and I somewhat wanted to take a nap? That was odd. I found myself very tired, even though I still haven't had a sip of my bottle yet. I shrugged it off and head upstairs. I pick up one the Sprite filled shirt that I threw earlier away and straightened up the full length mirror. I glance at my phone, thinking of what that social worker said. They finally found Sadie's family and where they are, but my problem is, will I be able to tell them what happened to their daughter? I groaned as I jump on the bed, feeling the soft fabric around my body as I'm laying on my back, staring at the ceiling, just think about life. When did things get so complicated?

Just about a week ago, living in that warehouse controlled what I did, how I acted and how I viewed society. I only got the courage to actually do something about my life and take control about it was about a month ago, when Lewis, one of the test subjects for the mind screen, the same thing that I had, died on the table because his brain couldn't take the load like I could. They should of learned, out of the 16 subjects that they putted to try to put in the mind screen, I was the only one that successfully made it out alive.

A sudden text on my phone caused in to snap out of my little world and back to crappy reality, where my life was once again somewhat a living hell. I reach over for my phone and see that Walter texted me that they were almost back home. I looked at my desk, facing the window. I picked up a one of my old sketch notebooks that I used to have and flip the pages of the dollar store quality notebook. Cheap pencil lines cover most of the pages as you can still see the lines that I erased from the erasers that I got at the dollar store. I guess that's what life is like. Paths that you tried and failed will still remind you what you tried to accomplish but you know that you will never finish.

I close the notebook as the garage door opened. I slightly jumped as I heard many footsteps, big and small come into the garage and a voice yelled ,"We are back!"

My sad smile was quickly replaced with an fake, happy one as I put the notebook back where it belongs and rush down the steps and the first face that I see is Ralph. Ralph runs into my arms as he gives my a hug.

"Oh, looks like somebody missed me!" I joked. Ralph pulled back a few seconds afterward with a big smile on his face.

"Come on, let's go to the roof!" Ralph grabbed my hand and pulled my to the roof top.

"Ralph, wait up!" I call out as we were already half-way there.

Everyone was chatting as I stared up into the stars, just admiring them when Toby walked over to me.

"What are you looking at?" Toby said as he glanced up at the dark, navy blue sky.

I looked at him and smile. "The stars." I say as I resume looking back up. "What else would I be looking for?"

Toby studied the night sky for a few seconds. "There are no stars that you can see Kardia."

I chuckle softly and shook my head. "Do you know what I like about this sky?"

Toby laughed. "You mean the sky that surrounds the whole earth?"

"I like this California sky this because of the pollution. It covers the stars from us making it very hard to see." I smile as I find another bright star. "But when you keep looking for a star over and over again, and you finally see one, you feel rewarded."

I look down at Toby and smile as I walk away from him as Ray puts on some music as I make my way toward Walter.

"Hey, Walt?" I ask, keeping my eyes focused on Sly's dances moves. So horrible but impossiable to turn away from.

"Yes, Kardia?" Walter replied.

"What are we going to do tomorrow?" I question.

"I think it's about time you met my sister." Walter answered. He looked down at me. "Would you like that?"

I nod and turn my head to face him. "Yes, I would indeed." We stand side by side the rest of the party, waiting for tomorrow.
