The Show Must go On

Celine's almost 40 years in show business and she encountered a lot. A bad weather on a stadium concert, broken heels in the middle of a show even a bleeding finger during a number. She's been stage and crowd all her life but the worse and best, she'd been through.

She flew to her 19th destination of the tour in Madrid. She's almost restless. After in a place, a plane flight to another one. A day gap in between shows and that's all when she can do everything like, sleep, bath, eat and stay at a hotel and the flight. But she's used to this. Almost 40 years in show business and in front of thousands of crowds, what is the new thing?

But since she's aging and can't do it consistently like before, she has to check for the doctor once in a while. It just happened that this tour has a lot of destinations and she can't possibly just cross out any of them since most of them are places she's never held a tour.

It's when she woke up after Barcelona and she knew something is not right with her throat. She got up feeling something heavy and called René right away. She's lucky he stayed later in the morning so he was there at the hotel with her.

He's having his coffee when Céline almost ran to him with heavy steps. Not because she's nagging but because she don't really want to speak too much. Not especially now!

"Bonjour."

"Rene..." from that word. He knew.

"What happened?!" René's worried now. Not because of the show that possibly couldn't go tonight but because of her wife's condition. Her voice is failing, almost no voice coming out from her mouth!

This could never be like the tour in Phoenix!

Celine started to cry silently. She knew she has to make a choice. She continued on the preparations though. Get everything done, her hair, the make up and the clothes. And now they're at the venue. She's at the backstage still not speaking trying to revive the voice even at least a little bit more. She's taking medicine that could help her recover as soonest as possible.

The tour manager was there. The other performers are there. They're all worried at her. Having that voice, she could definitely choose to move the date even for a day but she could never do that to her people and to all the fans that's been waiting for her half an hour now.

"What do we do?" She asked. René was there as well. All day he's been telling her to take even a day off and just move the date. But it was too late for her to cancel it. Besides, her voice wasn't that bad earlier. It just went crazy an hour away from show!

"What do you think?" He asked her back.

She's never had anything worse than this. Her throat feels scratchy and a pin of pain whenever she tries to talk. She couldn't tell it now to her people! Certainly not to René! She'll definitely feel bad towards the 50 thousand people waiting for her outside if she can't continue on with the show!

She had the last 10 minutes to talk to her people before the show. They're all worried right now for Céline as if she could still do the show with that voice. All they can do is pray.

"I'll try my best for the show... I hope my voice will get better."

5 minutes before the show, her voice finally went okay a bit. Now she can sing better but still, she worry about her 'All By Myself' number. She just hope everything will be alright.

"Hola! Buenas Noches Madrid!" The show finally starts. She went out all smiles, giving herself to the world once more. Like the usual thing she does. All of them cheered, so happy to see her finally get out.

The crowd didn't even notice how she had a little crack when she greeted them!

The concert started from her song, 'A new Day has Come'. One change after the other, she's really thankful she's not cracking at any number. But nobody knows how her throat hurts a little bit more by each song she finish.

René's eyes all on her. Even though she smiles, even though he's seated at the control room, far from the stage. Even he can only see her by the monitor screens, he can definitely tell she's not feeling alright. She's his wife! And they've been married for 23 years and if that's not long enough to know her fully, then he didn't know what!

But he knew there's no turning back the moment she set her foot on that stage tonight.

Céline is nervous. It's the highest song she's next to perform. Her voice had felt better now but it's still hurts and she can feel it's getting heavier. She knew she can crack anytime during the peak notes!

"Miss Céline, you can do this." Hera, one of her singers went to her, held her hand and said.

"Thank you."

They started the song from his pianist playing, her singers sings and some of the dancers doing their routines.

She started the song and everything is doing smoothly. She knew She must calm herself down for the big note. And then there it goes...

She took the high note after breathing big. Held the sustain as much as possible that lasted for 8 seconds. She scratched a bit at the middle but it's almost not noticeable. A big relief when she finally finished the song, gestured her hands and moved her body like she always do after hitting a big note.

René and everyone else from the control room almost let out a huge breath when she finished-hit that note perfectly! From then, he knew she can breath freely after the last number.

"Muchas Gracias! Good night!" She finally said after finishing the Titanic song as her last number and then the center stage where she stands went down to the lower level of the stage.

The show is done!

There was René waiting for her. She embraced him as soon as she went down and went crying. The show is done, and her voice is failing once more. She can feel it more this time.

She can almost taste the bit of blood coming out from her throat earlier when she hit that big note. And now, finally she can tell René.

"Honey, I... I want to visit my doctor." He couldn't almost hear anything from her voice! It's that bad!

But he saw it coming. He called the doctor from New York yesterday for Céline's check up and he was able to go to Madrid right after the show ended.

They finally went to their suite. The doctor had brought the tube in from her nose down to her throat to see what is the problem. He shook his head before finally getting the apparatus out.

"René, she can't take a new concert anytime soon. Her vocal folds had inflammations and it bled. A vein must've ruptured. She has to rest."

Céline looked up to the doctor and to her husband. Tears still falls but she didn't speak.

"A week or a couple. That's the very least." The doctor looked at Céline now. "I know it is painful, Céline. We can't force it. I can give you medicines but you know we can't push a new show now. And as your doctor, I won't allow it. It's better to have enough rest and sleep as well."

Céline's crying. The shows that will be postponed, Disappointing the people who waited for this, Probably wasting the efforts her people prepared for, because of that stupid throat inflammations!

But she knew she's reached it. And it's better to postponed than ruin her voice for pushing it. She just feel bad about everything else.

"I will be staying here at Madrid at least for a week to make sure of the recoveries. And please, as much as possible, avoid talking Céline. That's second thing you can do for your faster recovery."

She wiped her tears away from her cheeks. She's always emotional when this happens but this one would probably be the worse so far.

The kids called, they're worried after learning the postponement of the shows. Marie has been updated and been tracking where her Mama next to conduct the concert be. Céline talks very little. She just do when saying 'I love You' to her children.

Seeing them even through video calls makes her feel better. It sure is helping her a lot for the recoveries. Marie's been chatting her or texting her once in a while. She's so worried after learning her vocal folds actually bled! That's a serious thing!

The doctor visits her everyday to check if she's healing better and also to guide her about the medicines she must take.

René has decided to stay the first days of the week with his wife. Made sure she's eating healthy and resting well. Céline is hardheaded sometimes that's why René made a double check on her every time.

He prepared greaseless and unsweetened fruit porridge and warm water for her dinner. He made sure she's well taken care of. He knew how much the shows meant to her. It's like breathing for her.

At night, she's staring outside the balcony of the suite looking up at the stars thinking, they don't have any idea how beautiful they were. She didn't know, René think the same way when he looks at her.

He took off his coat. He came from outside to talk to some people for the continuing of the show when he saw his wife standing at the balcony. She had her furry coat to keep her away from being too cold and her blonde curly hair just down being flew by the wind.

He wants to come closer and give her a bisou but he stopped himself and just look at the beautiful her. She's always been the beautiful girl he knew for years. And she's grown but that beauty has never left her. It never withered.

René instead went into the phonograph inside the room and played the record "This Never Happened Before" of Paul McCartney.

I'm very sure, this never happened to me before
I met you and now I'm sure
This never happened before

Céline smiled. She loved the song very much. She knew René just went in and she slowly turned herself to look behind. He's smiling widely and started walking towards her.

"May I have this honor of dancing with my star."

He bit her lower lip. "Toujours." She simply said and René finally went to offer and hand. His hands snaked around the small of her back while hers are simply placed around his nape, giving a small of the weight in there.

They swayed slowly into the slow music. How she loves this and how he missed this. It's just sometimes when they have a little time alone like this and every second is just special.

Now I see, this is the way it's supposed to be
I met you and now I see
This is the way it should be

She closed her eyes and finally leaned her head on his chest. She's wearing indoor sliders with bunny ears Marie bought for her for Christmas.

"Your face is cold." He didn't want to break that lovely ambiance between them like that but he's worried when his face brushed hers for a second.

"Wind's cold. But I wanted to stay like this a little longer."

The doors from the balcony were opened and the cold wind is going in. But they didn't feel it that way. It's seems to touched them warm.

This is the way it should be, for lovers
They shouldn't go it alone
It's not so good when you're on your own

So come to me, now we can be what we want to be...

"Feeling better?"

She remembers that celebration after the Eurovision. They were dancing like this and her heart's beating so madly didn't know his was too. She wanted to tell him so bad but she don't know how.

But the dance is very special to her. She felt like she's safe. A strange kind of feeling but surely, she wanted to stay like that forever if that's possible.

"Oui."

I love you and now I see
This is the way it should be
This is the way it should be

She sang with the song. Those words she wanted to tell him everyday.

She's in love with this man.

That never changed.

"I love you too." He kissed her on the lips with full of passion and care.

After a week, she recovered fully and ready to take on the stage once more. The announcements have been published and the kids been calling her again. They're calmed now as they can talk to their Mama normally.

"I miss you too honey." She told Nelson.

"I love you Mama! I miss you."

"I miss you too, Mon amour."

"When will you come home, Mama?" Asked Eddy. He's always been the most who gives a lot of care when it comes to their Mama.

He is the serious one from the twins. She always wants to see Céline around. Almost always wants to be with her all the time. She remembers when they're younger. He always cry whenever she's off for shows. She even have to leave before they wake up.

"Sooner, Baby... By the end of the month."

"Thats long?! But ma, you've been away for a month!" She knew he's just missing her. But that's what this huge world's price.

She has everything now she ever dreamt of. But then, there will always be price to pay. And that's the hardest, being away from those people she loves. Being away from her kids.

Well, she grew up like that. Away from her Mama and Papa and her siblings. But she thinks that it's way different towards her children.

"Don't worry Ed, Mama will be entering the door before you know it. Alright?" Says RC and then he just smiled and nodded.

"So Ma... you sure you're alright now? Marie can't stop asking me once in a while how are you." He continued, now speaking to Céline.

"Yes Honey. I'm alright... Tell her I'm doing better now."

"I will. She's still at school. She'll call later when she get home."

The call lasted for an hour and Céline has to end it for another doctor session. Because even though she's better now, they have to make sure nothing would get inflamed when she got back on stage.

The lights went all out before she went on the stage. The week ended and she's recovered fully now. The musicians are in their top energy playing each instruments they have as well as her dancers on stage. They're never more excited seeing her back!

Céline can see thousands of crowd in the arena with their voices cheering for her. She's standing at the sweet spot now holding her golden microphone when she raised her right hand up.

"How are you Portugal?!"
