Twenty Eight - Near-Death Experiences To Strengthen Our Bond

You had almost forgotten what it was like to travel around with Jungkook.

But oh boy did he make sure to remind you.

The day started out just fine - you'd woken up next to him, on the uncomfortable balcony you two had fallen asleep on yesterday. Of course he'd been awake already, sitting next to were you laid patiently, waiting for you to wake up.

You kind of anticipated the traveling - the routine Jungkook and you would build up again, the wordless understanding that had developed between you two over time. And having him awake next to you when you woke up, on guard like usually, was just part of the whole routine.

But even you knew that it couldn't go on like this forever. You still had Namjoon's words in mind - the apparent refugee on Jeju island, that could give you safety and shelter.

Jungkook wouldn't like this.

Yyou'd been mulling your head over how to bring the refugee up ever since.

Whatsoever, your internal struggle after waking up was your least worry in the moment, because Jungkook had decided that climbing onto a half finished house was a good idea.

"Why." You glared at the man in front of you, who was balancing over a very thin wooden plank that connected the scaffolding in a suspiciously unprofessional way. Your surroundings were a mere skeleton of a house, that would never get to be finished, looking eerily spooky.

"S' safer up here." He said dismissively, "Did ya see all these pests down in the ally? Almost feels like old Seoul, as crowded 's it was."

"C'mon it wasn't that full." You rolled your eyes, trailing behind to sulk in peace.

"Well, you aren't the one who's got to get rid of 'em, prick." He argued back, making you grimace annoyed.

"Wanna see me try?"

"Fuck, no." He threw you a glare, "Ain't no way I'm letting you down there."

You stuck out your tongue, stepping onto the wooden plank with shaky legs, "If this thing breaks, I'll kill you."

He huffed, "It won't."

It did.

Jungkook's weight earlier must've weakened the material, because when you stepped fully onto the plank, a bone chilling crack reached your ear and you promptly saw your world turn when you fell down into the lower level with a scream.

"Chickie!" Jungkook jumped forwards, only missing your hand by a mili second.

The height you'd fallen from wasn't that big, so it didn't hurt that much when your back made contact with the ground, leaving you laying there on the dusty floor shocked.

"You good?" Jungkook shouted at you from above, head peaking over the edge worried.

You needed some time to regulate your breathing, the impact having knocked all air out of your lungs, so the only thing you could do was lift one hand and show him thumps-up.

"Look for a stair or whatever." Jungkook shouted down at you, head disappearing from the edge.

"Yes, sir." You mumbled to yourself, while getting up on unsteady legs. Well, that had not been very nice.

Carefully, you eyed your surroundings, praying that you wouldn't stumble into any prowlers while separated from Jungkook.

You heard him walk above you, both your steps echoing loudly through the empty rooms. This whole place was fucking creepy and you cursed Jungkook for having brought you up here.

A strangely loud slurping sound caught your attention, making you turn around the corner - just to having you jump back disgusted.

Really?!

You peeked through the naked doorframe, eyes hefted onto the giant prowler in the middle of the large, empty hall.

It was easily twice Jungkook's size, unnaturally broad - bloated would be the better term. It's body mass wiggled like a giant water balloon, endless amount of black liquid dripping onto the ground, having already formed a puddle around the monster, while it-... well, what was it doing?

You crouched down, eyes narrowing as you tried to make out what exactly was going on in front of you.

It looked like... that giant prowler was eating other prowlers.

The motionless bodies of dozens of smaller prowlers were piled up in front of the giant one, as it kept stuffing the corpses into it's wide opened mouth, thin long fingers clawing into the dripping corpses. That was also where those slurping sounds were coming from, emitting from the mouth of that... cannibalistic?... prowler.

As fascinatingly strange as the sight in front of you was, you did not want to end up like these other corpses. Slowly, you stepped backwards, crouching slightly to not draw any unnecessary attention to you.

The mere thought of having to run as this gigantic fuck was chasing you was making your hands shake, heart beat drumming in your ears while you slowly distanced yourself.

To no good, because the worst thing imaginable happened - of course it noticed you.

A deep gurgle emitted from somewhere within the monster's body, and it started to turn slowly, balloon-ish body wobbling as it started to move into your direction with increasing speed.

As slow as it had moved in the beginning, was it quickly beginning to approach with a force you hadn't believed it had.

"Oh, shit." You turned around, sprinting away as the prowler was approaching like a fucking express train, breaking through walls and shattering pillars on it's way.

"Jungkook!" You shouted, stumbling around a corner while the creature behind you was getting closer and closer, thundering crashes of cement pieces being ripped out of the unfinished walls almost overshadowing your voice.

Since when were these things that fast?

You nearly fell once, when you jumped over a pile of planks, catching yourself early enough.

Not daring to turn around, did you not see Jungkook jump through the unfinished ceiling, scythe coming down to chop into the prowler's body, "Come fight someone your size, you little necrophiliac!"

The scythe didn't manage to cut off anything, the creature's body being way larger than that of an average prowler.

Jungkook pulled the weapon out of the bloated body, jumping back to get some distance between him and the monster, while you didn't stop running before you found a ladder, which you swiftly climbed up to watch Jungkook fight from a safe distance.

He did tell you not to fight them earlier, so it should be fine.

The prowler needed a moment to get used to it's new situation, not immediately recognizing Jungkook as a threat, which latter used to dash forward and ram his blade right into the center of his opponent's body, using the hilt of the scythe to heave himself up on top of the creature. He made eye contact with you for a second, before pulling the blade out of the squirming body and throwing it through the hole in the ceiling, where it landed somewhere next to you.

He followed soon, jumping to catch the edge of the brittle ceiling and pulling himself up through it, til he landed next to you panting, "Nope, I can't do this." He wheezed out, "Let's run."

You cocked a brow, "Well, that's a first."

"Shut up." He grabbed his scythe, both of you on your feet quickly, as the prowler underneath you was rampaging again already, the cut through it's body having down nothing to stop it or even do so much as slowing it down.

You were sprinting down the wide space, only single pillars obstructing your way. The prowler one level deeper was plowing through walls, dangerously close.

You were already tired from running from the creature earlier, sides aching as you tried to keep up with your friend who had seemingly endless stamina.

Jungkook seemed to notice, reaching out for your hand with his only free one, which only resulted in him pulling you along.

He threw you a glance, expression too impish, too excited for a situation like this - of course he was enjoying it,

"Dying-" You panted, "- was not on today's agenda."

He laughed, strong hand pulling you along, keeping you from slowing down and succumbing to your unlucky fate, "Dying shouldn't be on any day's agenda."

Weirdly, his easy-going mood was infectious, "Oh, yeah? Since when are you the one making the plans."

It was so obscure, how Jungkook was able to laugh in a situation like this, how you couldn't bite back a grin while a gigantic fucking monster was plowing it's way towards you, treating to unalive you sooner than you'd like.

You reached the edge of the house, four levels of nothing underneath you, until the scaffolding reached the wet, muddy street. There was a house a few meters away from you, the scaffold you were standing on making the distance between the two houses shorter than it would usually be. You could see it's flat roof slightly beneath you, sun shining onto the surface invitingly.

Jungkook threw his weapon over, blade making contact with the roof with a loud clank, "We'll jump."

"Oh hell no, you seem to forget that I don't have super strength like you, Mr. Jeon."

He gave you a crooked grin, "You'll make it don't worry."

You were about to protest, but the prowler was getting closer and closer and Jungkook wasn't listening anyways, taking a few steps back before he jumped, landing on the other side safely.

You stared after him, heart racing in your chest, blood rushing through your ears while you stared at the abyss underneath you.

"Now you!" He shouted, arms reaching up for you.

"I'll kill you." You said weakly, before mirroring his actions and jumping.

Wind was rushing through your ears, numbing your head as the house came closer quickly, - but not close enough.

I won't make it, I won't make it, I-

A pair of strong arms caught you before your face met the wall, pulling you up with a huff, "Gotcha, Chickie."

When he'd pulled you up completely, you couldn't help but to just slump into him, body loosing all tension.

"Oh-" He caught you, of course, arms wrapping around your tired body, "See? Told ya you'd make it."

"I almost didn't." You mumbled into his chest, feeling it rumble when he laughed, arms tightening around you while he gently pulled you away from the edge.

"C'mon, Chibi. Or it'll spot us up here."

This was your life now, huh?
