Chapter 25

"Tonight?" My instant reaction was to say no. I wasn't ready to face anyone, especially Shehryaar Asif.

Hussain glared at me making me narrow my eyes at him.

When he realized I was going to say no, he grabbed my hand and walked into the mall, literally dragging me along with him.

Along the way he punched random numbers onto his phone and then held it upto his ear. "Hey! Yeah, we'll be there tonight. Did you take care of the other thing? Perfect. See you. Bye!"

"Other thing?", I wondered.

"We're here", he snapped me out of my thoughts. I looked up to see us standing in front of a salon in the mall.

I sighed, preparing myself for the hours of torture that I was about to face. In about the next 3 hours, I had my eyebrows done, hair done, nails manicured, and my makeup done.

Turned out that Hussain had already had bought the dress that I was supposed to wear for the night. It was a gorgeous red dress tight up till the waist and faired from waist below. The front of the dress came about my knees and the back fell to the floor. I wore black stilettos with them to complete the look.

"You look beautiful!", Hussain gasped. "My-"

"Your?", I asked when he stopped talking.

"All eyes are gonna be on you tonight.", he smirked. "But before that I have a surprise for you waiting in the limo."

"Surprise?"

He didn't say anything but smirked. I slid into the limo, but stopped right when I bumped into someone.

I looked up at him gasping, "Waqas?"

Waqas was my first ever boyfriend back in high school. Things didn't quite go well between the two of us, but we still kept in touch after our break up.

Waqas smiled at me, "Hey Humi."

Before he could say anything lese, Hussain got in and closed the door.

"You guys know each other?"

"Yeah, we went to the same school.", I blurted not wanting to tell him anything more.

"Great!", Hussain spoke, "He knows what happened, and he's ready to help us. He's your date for tonight."

"Help us do what? And how do you guys know each other?", I was exasperated.

"Waqas is my cousin, Humera. And hes very close to Shehry. And he's going to help us bring my brother's mind back to normal."

Realization dawned upon me. Holy shit!

Hussain nodded but frowned at the same time looking at my expression. "Humera listen to me. You're a strong girl. You're not gonna break down now. You can't."

"But—"

But this time Waqas spoke, "Humera, this is not you. The Humera I know would is a fighter. She doesn't let things like these affect her."

I smiled at him. His words actually helped me. He gave me a wide grin handing my a bottle of water. I drank up sighing as it helped me cool down a bit.

"Lets go", Hussain smiled. Only then had I noticed that we were at the venue.

Courage. A small word yet such a big one. All I needed was some courage. I took a deep breath, as I took Waqas' waiting hand. He smiled, and I returned it with a forced one.

The press immediately recognized me from Shehryaar's last press.

"Who is this Ms. Humera?", came the first question as soon as I stepped out.

"Waqas. He's a good friend of mine.", I replied making sure my voice sounded strong.

"Whats going on between you and Hussain?", came the next.

"Hussain is my best friend, now if you'll please excuse me we have to get going."

"Are you in a relationship?" I heard someone ask as I started walking.

That question hurt me. My focus blurred as I thought about Shehryaar. He should've been standing next to me, not Waqas. It should've been the day today when we announced to the world that we were together.

"Humera.", Waqas whispered, bringing me back to reality.

I forced a smile, "You giys will be the first ones to know if I'm in one.", I said, moving on into the ballroom that had the party.

I saw curious eyes on me, judging me, assessing me. But my eyes were only searching for one man. Shehryaar Asif.

While looking around I realized everyone here had come with a date. What if Shehryaar brought a date along? I wasn't sure if I was ready to take that in just yet.

"Here you go.", Waqas' voice brought me out of my dilemma. My eyes turned to him and he smiled at me offering me a glass of juice.

"Thankyou.", I muttered, taking the class from him.

"So, is he here?", Waqas asked.

I shook my head, "Not yet."

But just as I finished saying that, I sensed him. Goosebumps erupted on my skin, my breath got caught somewhere in my throat and my heart beat increased.

"He's here.", Waqas murmured.

"I know.", I whispered, smiling at Hussain who looked at me, puzzled. He walked towards me along with another man.

"Humera, this is Mr. Paxton."

"Humera Vohra! Ah, I've heard a lot about you from Shehryaar.", he smiled extending his arm forward. I shook his hand with a forced smile on my lips.

A few moments later he called out loud, "Shehryaar Asif, come here my boy!"

My breathing hitched.

"Mr. Paxton!", Shehryaar's voice was so calm and unaffected. "Humera."

I raised my eyes and looked up at him. He looked amazing, as usual. He seemed totally unaffected with had happened between the two of us. He was dressed in a nice suit, but my breathing hitched when I realized that he was wearing the same tie that we had bought together in LA.

"Shehryaar.", I spoke, soflty but strongly.

"Humera.", Waqas called out, and I looked at him with a smile. He handed me another glass of juice and I smiled taking it. I'm sure we looked like a prefect couple.

I felt Shehryaar tense up necx to me.

"Hey Shehryaar.", Waqas spoke, surprising me.

"Waqas! What a surprise. I didn't expect you to be here."

"Well, it was kind of last minute. Especially cause Humi didn't have a date."

Shehryaar's eyes met mine, "And you couldn't come here without a date?"

I froze. I didn't expect him to ask me something like that.

"Waqas was with me when Hussain invited me here, and it wouldn't be appropriate to not ask Waqas to come."

Shehryaar nodded but before he could say anything Waqas grabbed my arm and spoke, "I'm sorry Shehryaar, but we have to get going."

He nodded and Waqas dragged me through the crowd. I sighed out of relief. Thankfully, I was kept busy by Waqas and Hussain as they introduced me to people for the next hour or so.

When we finally sat down for a drink I asked, "Why are you doing all this?"

"What?", Hussain asked.

"Not you. Waqas.", I replied. "Why are you helping Hussain? What do you want get back at Shehryaar for?"

He sighed, "You guys are made for each other. And anyways this seems fun."

I chuckled. "Okay. I'm going to the washroom."

"Don't get lost." Hussain teased and I narrowed my eyes at him.

My heels were killing me and I want to just go back home and curl up on my couch. I saw that they had a couch in the bathroom area so I sat down, kept my phone and my purse next to me, closed me eyes, and took a deep breath.

When I heard the door lock slide into place, I opened my eyes. Shehryaar Asif stood in front of me. His eyes burnt with anger and his jaw clenched.

"W-what are you doing here?", I asked, my voice weak.

"Why are you here with him?"

"Him?", I asked.

"Waqas.", he narrowed my eyes at me. "Why are you here with Waqas?"

I shrugged, "Because I wanted to. What's your problem?"

"So, you're dating him now?"

"We're friends! And its of no concern to you even if we were dating."

"Humera darling, that's where you're wrong.", he said slowing pacing towards me.

I was trapped, "I'm not wrong Shehryaar." I glared at him, "You made it perfectly clear about our relationship when you walked away."

Anger evident on his face, he pulled me to him crashing his lips on mine.

I froze for a moment and tried pulling back but he was stronger.

His clutched my back, burning my skin.

A moan escaped my lips as his lips moved in sync with mine. My hands were in his hair, as his hands travelled up my back. And right then my phone rang.

I stumbled back and looked at Shehryaar. He looked completely pleased and content with himself. A satisfied smirk played across his lips.

"You-You asshole!", I exclaimed, "How dare you?"

He pulled my closer, "Just reminding you who you belong to, babe."

My eyes were lit with anger.

He turned around and walked out, leaving me staring at his back in surprise. I realized my phone was still ringing and I quickly took it out of my purse and looked at the screen. It was Hussain.

"Hey.", I said, my voice sounded rough. "I'll be outside in five minutes."

"Okay.", he said from the other side.

I looked in the mirror. My lips felt swollen from the kiss. Red marks were visible on my skin from Shehryaar's rough stubble.

I sighed, applied a little foundation to covered up the marks, and lipstick before heading out.

"Humera. You wont believe what happened!"

"What?", I asked him.

"So there's this auction taking place for the cancer foundation. And the highest bidder gets to spend an entire day with you!"

"With me?", I narrowed my eyes at him.

"Yes you! The cancer foundation said that Dave loved you immensely and this is their way of honoring him."

I sucked in a breath. Dave's face came in front of me. I had to do this for him. Tears formed in my eyes as I remembered his happy, smiling face.

"You ready?", he asked.

I nodded.

The auction began with everyone trying to bid the highest they could for a painting that stood in the center of the stage. The money then would be donated to the cancer foundation where Dave once lived.

I was surprised as to how fast the bid escalated. Right now a man in his thirties was the highest bidder.

"10 million", he said, silencing the room.

"10 million, going once, going twice..."

"50 Million!", I heard, as Shehryaar's voice filled the room.

FUCK!

"50 million, going once, going twice, and gone! Sold to Mr. Shehyraar Asif!" the lady on the stage exclaimed.

The room filled with the sound of everyone clapping for him, but my eyes were fixed on his face.

The winning smirk across his lips, the promise in his eyes, the victory! Shehryaar Asif!
