Chapter Six - The Pros (And Cons) of Hitchhiking

"Well..." John said, "do you guys have any idea how we can reach Mount Osohai in the easiest way? I'm not a walker. My feet get already hurt whenever I walk to the supermarket!"

"What about hitchhiking?" Roger said.

Brian sighed. "Roger, that is the stupidest idea I have ever-"

"Hitchhiking!" John said, in reply to Roger. "That's a brilliant idea!"

Brian looked at his bandmates grumpily. He didn't say anything.

"That's two votes for hitchhiking, and the third one's a silent vote," John said. "It's an unanimous decision - we're going hitchhiking!"

Brian still didn't reply.

"I know you're upset, Bri," John said, walking up to his bandmate. "But we can't leave you here alone. We're not Queen without you."

Brian looked at John. "I know, Deaks. But in my humble opinion it's a bloody stupid idea to go hitchhiking. I mean, how big is the chance we run into someone right this moment who needs to go to Mount Osohai? The chance that a meteor hits your head's even bigger."

"Did somebody say 'Mount Osohai'?" A voice they never heard before caught their attention.

It came from a man who was driving a passing ox cart with a large hay stack inside of it. "I have to go to Mount Osohai. I need to bring my freight there. I could get you there if you want."

"Oh well," Brian said to the ox cart driver, a short man with black, spiky hair. "It would be really appreciated if you'd bring me and my friends there, Mr Driver. Especially since you seem to be so keen on bringing us there... And since we're kinda low on our dough, could you please be so friendly to bring us to the mountain for free?"

Suddenly, the driver looked at Brian with an angry look on his face.

"You thought I would do it for nothing, huh, mister Big Curly Hair? And that I would not only transport you, but your two friends too? Well, that's not the case. I am not a taxi service. I am only bringing you to Osohai if you pay me well."

Brian turned to Roger and John. "Ehrm, guys, do you have some Japanese coinage ready?"

But John shook his head and Roger said the only Japanese money he had at hand had disappeared when he had ended up in 1685. He turned to the driver again.

"Bummer. Well, I have to say my friends didn't have mone-"

"Ofcourse we have!" Roger said all of a sudden. "We'll just pay this kind man later on."

"Roger!" Brian whispered, facing Roger. "What the heck are you doing, man?! You said you didn't had any money!"

"Relax, Bri," Roger said. "Why would you waste such a perfect opportunity to go to Mount Osohai? And besides, we'll have a few days to come up with a good excuse for us still not having money at the end of our journey!"

Then, they heard a voice. "Gentlemen?"

It was the cart driver. "I will not leave without you. Your friend is already sitting on the cart and I will not wait that long anymore."

Brian sighed again as they climbed into the ox cart. "All right, Roger. But promise me you won't do anything stupid again."

And with these words their long journey to the mountain started.

A/N - I'm in Sweden on holiday right now, that's why this chapter has no illustration yet. I promise to draw it whenever I'm back again :)
