"You know I've never seen you run before," Josh commented, sitting on the bleachers near the track I was running laps at.

I went over to sit next to him, "You must think you're so funny . . . I know for a fact that you came to one of my track meets."

He rose his hands in the air with a laugh, "Yep, you caught me. I just haven't seen you run in a while since you didn't do track in your senior year."

I shrugged, "I ended up having way too much to do that year, so I decided not to join that year."

"Too bad," Josh murmured, his gaze lowering to my legs, "I missed seeing you in shorts."

I felt my face go warm at that, "Pah -- whatever."

"And I see you still can't take a compliment," the red-haired boy said, a small smile on his face, "As Connor-like as ever, I see."

"Shut up."

He grinned at me, leaning over and pecking me on the cheek before his face screwed up in disgust at the sweat that was now on his lips.

He wiped it off his mouth, "I have made a horrible mistake."

"Serves you right for trying to kiss me," I told him, "This was like one of those 'instant karma' moments."

"I think I've learned my lesson."

"Good for you."

"You know," Caleb started, staring at me with a wicked spark in his eyes, "I saw you with Josh earlier when I went to go get water."

"And?" I asked, raising my eyebrows at my little brother, "What's wrong with bros being bros?"

"Please, bro," the boy said with a roll of his eyes, "He kissed you and you didn't seem to care."

"So?" I questioned, "Maybe I just didn't show that it bugged me . . . plus, I got revenge with my sweaty face."

Caleb grinned at me, throwing a wink at me, "Maybe there's a little unfinished business there."

"My only unfinished business is that I never got to tell James how I felt," I said, "Josh is just my friend."

"I'm still on team Jonnor," the brunette stated, sticking his tongue out at me.

"Which one is that?"

He rolled his eyes again, "You and James, dummy. You and Josh is . . . Cosh?"

"I'm just going to leave before things get any weirder."

"Hey, Josh," I greeted the boy as I sat across from him.

He looked up at me with a sweet smile, "Hey, Connie. It's great to see you."

"Nice to see you too."

After a nice afternoon spent chatting and drinking lemonade and iced tea, the two of us ended up going for a walk around the park just so we could continue spending more time with each other.

"I miss hanging out with you," Josh commented, walking so close to me that I could feel his arm lightly brushing against mine, "It's nice . . . just doing stuff like this again."

I smiled at the red-haired boy, "Yeah, it is nice . . . I'm pretty sure the last time we went out like this was when we were, well, 'dating'."

The boy let out a small hum of agreement, "Why did we break up anyway?"

I shrugged, "Not sure. Something about --"

"Being too busy for a relationship?"

I nodded, "Yeah. That."

"Well, I don't know about you . . . but I'm not so busy these days anymore," Josh murmured, his face slowly turning pink.

"Says the med student."

His face grew darker at that as he shoved me lightly in the side, "Connor! I'm being serious."

We both came to a stop on the path we had been walking along and I pursed my lips, my face going warm.

I took in a deep breath before saying, "Josh . . . I think that the week we were together was great, but I think that's all it'll ever be. I don't see you as anything more than a friend and I'm not ready to be in a relationship right now . . . there's just some stuff I have to deal with first before I can actually think about dating again." Because I still wasn't over James . . . and I haven't thought about being with anyone other than him in a very long time.

"I understand," he said, a small smile still on his face even though he had just been rejected, "But if anything ever changes that . . . well, you have my number."

"I guess we'll just have to see what happens."
