The Flame is Me

Bellamy had backed out the rover for Lincoln to help Raven in. Monty was mourning and the gloomy faces replicated mine as dawn started to creep on the night.

"You need to leave Niylah," I warned. "Don't take anything with the sacred symbol." She nodded and I pointed my gun in the distance when I heard something. Bellamy was on the roof and he shot at the drone.

"ALIE's found us," I stated. As I was about to get into the vehicle, I saw the figure in white who would always watch me from afar. I stepped closer to see the face and ran towards Roan with open arms.

"He could be chipped," Bellamy warned. I contemplated taking that information and I stepped back. "Sorry," I whispered and had a bullet graze his arm. From Jasper's knowledge that they couldn't feel pain, Roan had grunted, holding his bleeding arm before I wrapped it.

"You're coming with us," I said. We got into the packed rover and Bellamy stepped on the gas. Raven was intrigued with my mother's book, flipping through the many pages.

"She found the cure to cancer at the age of twenty-one," she smiled. "I don't know what the old world could've done without her." "Or the new one," Lincoln said. "She created this one but died too early to start her reign."

"Instead, Kalliope Praimheda did along with Reese, the Second Commander," Roan continued. As he continued the story, my head pounded in the middle. I blinked a few times from the irritation.

"Shh," I hushed. I rested my head on my palm to try and endure the pain. "Malfunctions," Sinclair thought. "You're a nightblood there shouldn't be malfunctions or she'd be dead," Raven stated.

"It could be the spirits trying to warn you," Clarke said. "It happened to Lexa in her nightmares." "They're all in there, aren't they?" Lincoln asked. "All of the Commanders."

"They believed in spirits but I say it's the remaining code of the Commanders," Raven said. "ALIE left a code in my head and it's racing." "I know things that I didn't know before," I said.

It was quiet throughout the drive and I whispered things about myself and what was going on to Roan so he'd understand. I'm not sure if he could grasp it. The headache stopped and it was more of an instinct that brushed on my skin.

Octavia and Lincoln were outside the rover and Jasper was on top as we strolled into the deserted campsite. Bellamy parked the rover inside the hangar and we got out to see Miller, Bryan, and Harper.

"Stand in a line," I said. They glanced at each other and the group lined in formation. I paced them like a guard with my hands behind my back.

"ALIE is here," I stated, clicking my boots. "One of you has taken the chip and has been listening to everything." "How do you know?" Clarke asked. She tried to take a step forward but I glared at her to stay in place.

"They were warning me," I said. "I can feel the electromagnetic waves that are numbing the neurons that cause pain from the key flowing towards the Flame. Step now and you will not be harmed."

"We can't trust you on that one," Jasper muttered. I raised my eyebrows, waiting for someone to show but they didn't. I started from the left and neared each person to sense the chip. I then paced down the line and halted at the talkative person.

"Hi ALIE," I said to Jasper. "Why would you take the chip?" Raven asked. "Why wouldn't I?" he said. "I'm in pain. Jaha made a great deal and here I am, pretending to help you."

"Take him to lockup," I said. He was able to punch me before Harper and Miller got a hold of him. He was put in cuffs and he yelled hatred words towards me as he dragged away.

"What's the plan, Commander?" Octavia asked. "ALIE knows I've taken the Flame but the Flamekeeper is the only one who can activate it," I began. "Clarke you don't know the passphrase but they think you did which is an advantage.

"The whole goal from Azgeda was to have a Commander. Ontari is on their side to take the Flame. Which brings in Roan. You will need to take Clarke inside with the Flame so she can get a chip and bring it down to the sewers the rest of us will be in.

"When I get into the City of Light, Raven will break down the firewalls so I have a chance to take down ALIE before she puts me down. Everyone's mind is in there so don't delete it. Don't kill a physical body either, they won't be able to return, so just a wound. Got it?"

"You're giving me the Flame?" Clarke questioned. "Yes," I answered. "That's how they'll let you in." "What if they kill the both of them and take the Flame?" Bellamy questioned.

"What about a fake one?" Sinclair spoke. "Monty, Raven, and I can replicate it so they assume it's the Flame." "So do that," I nodded and the three rushed out.

"If anything goes south?" Lincoln asked. "There's more of them than us." I pulled my composure, knowing my instinct. "Say it, Kane," Bellamy urged. "Jus drein jus daun," I told them.

We split up to be weaponized and I slid two swords on my back. Handguns were placed on my legs along with knives and a walkie-talkie. I drew my war paint and looked over to the ready warriors.

"It's time to go," Bellamy exclaimed. We came out and Sinclair handed Roan the fake AI that resembled the one in my head. "Looks real," I said.

Guns were slid inside the rover as the rest of us got in and waved at the ones staying behind. Being Commander came with many responsibilities but with all of my people gone, it wasn't burdening. The only thing I could do was get that heaviness back. I rested my elbows on my knees, thinking of all the possibilities that something could go wrong.

We reached the perimeter of Polis by morning and Clarke was gagged and restrained. Roan made eye contact with me as his way of goodbye before they departed from us.

"The tunnels are this way," Lincoln motioned. Bellamy his the rover in the trees and we crossed the small distance before crouching into the dark walkways. Water dripped on our heads until we could walk straightly and we stopped at the barred window that opened to the city.

"I am King Roan of Ice Nation and I bring you the Flamekeeper for the nightblood, Ontari" I could barely hear Roan say. "I also hold the Flame." He held it up the Flame and all the meditating eyes opened. They surrounded the two but the crowd opened when Jaha came down with Ontari and Abby.

"I command you to give me the Flame," Ontari demanded. Roan pushed Clarke forward for Jaha to grab her and he reluctantly set the Flame into Ontari's hand. As he backed away, a gun fired and I watched it lodge into his shoulder and I immediately froze. My eyes trailed to the gun that my father held.

A hand wrapped around my mouth as I let out a sharp scream and the arms grabbed me to pull me away from the window. I knew I could overpower the person who was holding me back but I felt useless as I kicked.

Bellamy had pressed me against the wall and I punched at his chest. He could handle my weak throws as I smacked his arms but he didn't let me go.

"Luisa," he called out. "Luisa." There was activation in my head and I began to breathe heavily. The tears in my eyes had gone cold and so had my stare. I could see the fear in Bellamy's eyes when he removed his hands.

"We're going south, aren't we?" Octavia figured. My head snapped to the cluttering coming from beyond the tunnels and guns flew up.

"It's us," the nearly unrecognizable voice spoke. "John Murphy," I said in a taunting voice. "Charles Pike." "Indra," Octavia smiled.

"We're on the same mission, right?" Pike asked. "Of course," I answered. Bellamy debriefed them on the plan and I began calculations on how to get inside the tower. Clarke was by herself and we were down here.

"Yu bilaik heda?" (You're the Commander) Indra questioned. I prevented her from kneeling and explained the new plan. It was simple yet difficult and Pike was impressed with it.

We went down the tunnels Murphy had come from and tiptoed down the streets where no one was and didn't seem to mind in their meditative state. We entered the tower and shot the guards who were protecting the elevator.

"ALIE probably knows that we're here," I whispered. Bellamy, Murphy, and I filed into the box, leaving the rest to push the wheel. The door closed and we began to go up.

"You're more determined than ever," I stated. "That's because I'm not fighting for myself," Murphy said. "There's someone else."

Before I could say anything else the elevator rumbled as if there was an explosion and the shuttle stopped. Bellamy tried to open the doors so we could climb the rest but warriors had appeared. I sworded the first one as Murphy shot the other and Bellamy forced the door closed.

"They'll be more coming," I said. The shuttle had resumed its climb and as we went, someone dropped from above. The four of us tossed around in the contraption until Bellamy shock-lashed them.

We reached the top for a battalion to face in the hallway. A handgun slipped in my hand and I sprinted towards them. The sword in my right hand went to slash the arms and a bullet pierced the leg. I brought the sword over my head and slit a neck. I pulled the trigger at a head before driving my sword through a chest and blood splattered on my face when I drew it out. I exhaled, relishing in the kills, and motioned the two to follow.

I kept our way clear and they held guns when we barged into the throne room. Ontari was bleeding on the ground, Clarke was tied up, and Abby was hanging from the second floor.

"Help her," Clarke cried. Murphy grabbed her by the legs and I cut the thick rope as Bellamy pointed the gun at Jaha.

"We know it's a fake," Jaha said. "Give us the real one." "You wouldn't be able to use it if Ontari is dead," I said, releasing Clarke. "She's in the City of Light," he told me. "You can come too and maybe... ALIE could place your mother and husband in there too."

"What an imagination you have," I said as the rest of my rebellion team had come in. "They're climbing," Octavia told me. "You need to do it now."

"Where are the keys?" I asked. "Contact Raven to start," I told Bellamy. Murphy had tossed me the black sack and Jaha watched as I held it in my hand. As the Commander, I proudly took a seat on my throne and relaxed.

"All of me for all of us," I whispered. I placed the chip on my tongue and swallowed. I closed my eyes to say, "I am the Flame and the Flame is me. I am the Flame and the Flame is me. I am-"

I felt a cold breeze brush against my skin and I stopped the phrases. My eyes opened to the cloudy city that looked like a utopian society I had read in the books from the old world.

I was in the middle of the streets and looked back into the tunnel I had come from. I was still in my black clothing that could barely keep me warm as I began to walk.

I gazed around at the City of Light and I had finally understood what Jaha had been preaching about- it was beautiful. It looked like the peace we had come down for to build. It was a city we could live in and have a life without death.

I grew tense when a man walked behind me. I faced him, knowing he could be a stalker and report to ALIE. Before I could lay my hands on him, he had turned the corner. He didn't see me.

I spawned in the middle of a street where cars didn't honk at my disturbing presence and jogged to the sidewalk. People had walked past me and I noticed Jasper sit at a bus stop and lick ice cream.

"Jasper," I called out. He paid no attention and smiled, walking away. As I trailed my eyes behind him, I noticed the twirling infinity logo. "A sign," I whispered.

I rushed across the street towards the stoplight and continued when I saw the next. I halted, looking around for the third sign when I heard a tiny ringing sound. In the distance, I spotted a girl riding and pink bike and sprinted towards it.

I went across the main city square as she continued to ring and ride her bicycle. My pace had quickened and I noticed the day had become night then afternoon and returned to the morning.

I didn't have time to think when I lost the girl in a parking garage with a gate in front of me. I began to climb it when it glitched and reached the ceiling.

I had to drop down and turn, to search for another way. As I was going back from the way I had come from, the wall malfunctioned. The gray paint formed an airlock with a black emblem; a raven.

I smirked, pushing the door, and stepped into a white area with a window that showed space. I gazed around at the laboratory that surrounded me and my eyes fell upon the cradle on the table. I slowly approached it and turned the corner to meet the brown eyes of a baby. She babbled at me as if I was a good person and it made me feel weak.

"That's you," a voice cracked. I looked up to see the woman who stood in casual clothing and brown eyes like mine. Her hair in a low ponytail defined her face and it looked like mine.

"Bekka Pramheda," I whispered. "You don't have to call me that," she said. She came close and she looked at the child who disappeared then at me. My eyes glazed, my eyebrows furrowed, and my lips quivered. It all stopped when she cupped my cheeks and my eyes shut to drip tears.

"I am your mother," she whispered, wiping the water with her fingers. "You are the Commander and you have a job to do: end what I couldn't." I built my composure and nodded, following her to the next room.

"I can't do this but to stop ALIE, you have to pull that lever," she said. ALIE appeared and I looked at her. "The fate of humanity lies in your hands," the AI told me.

"You already had your chance," Becca replied. "You decided to end it because I didn't teach the value of human life." "Neither does your daughter," ALIE told her. "If my calculations are correct, Bella Franco has killed four hundred twenty-three people with no remorse. I believe all of your creations are doomed." My head dropped when Becca glanced at me.

"What happens if I pull the lever?" I asked. "You will destroy the City of Light along with ALIE and you will return to the real world," Becca told me. "And if I don't?" I inquired.

A screen lit up and ALIE faced it. "She's stalling," Becca stated. "After the first missiles, the nuclear power plants survived," ALIE began. "A hundred years later and they are starting to erupt. Soon, it'll cause global warming, radiation, and black rain. Conditions will be unsurvivable and the Earth will be covered in a fire for six years."

"Is this true?" I asked. The two nodded. "You will have nowhere to survive," ALIE added. I glanced at the two of them and heavily concentrated on the decision in front of me. The lever was a sleek gray, taunting me to pull it. I took a deep breath and flipped the switch.

"I am the Flame and the Flame is me," I stated. "We'll find a way to survive, we always do." I could see the distraught on ALIE's face as she slowly malfunctioned until she faded into a broken hologram.
