Nishikata's POV

I was walking along the road towards school. After what Takagi did last Saturday, I am still kind of shocked. She freaking kissed me on the cheek. I was freaked out to hell. Surely, I did care for her. I did not want to hurt her, but, that was a unique way to say thanks. Why the hell. I was rigorously scrubbing my hair in frustration, not able to figure out why.

While thinking about it, I arrived at the intersection. But Takagi was still not there. So, I waited, leaning against the wall. But after some time still she was not there. I was getting late for the school and so I hurried towards the school, thinking that Takagi might have duties and so she came early.

When I entered the school, I hurriedly changed my shoes and went to the classroom. When I opened the door, I was welcomed by Tanabe-sensei's hard chalk. Then, he yelled at me, saying, "WHY ARE YOU SO LATE NISHIKATA?"

"I-I am s-sorry s-sir." I said as I bowed to apologize.

"Go sit down, but remember, you won't be allowed next time."

"T-Thanks you, sir."

I slowly went towards my seat whole Tanabe-sensei continued teaching, only to find Takagi was not there. I sat down silently and took out my books from my bags, beginning my day without Takagi.

Everyone would think that a day without Takagi would be like a dream come true for me. But the truth is, I kind of miss Takagi already. Don't take me wrong, but, if Takagi is with me, the day seems so interesting. I have to always think of new ways to beat Takagi and at the same time brace myself for the upcoming teases. But without her, it seems that all of it has stopped. The day seems somewhat boring.

At the lunch break, I head towards my usual group of friends. I left my classroom and was walking towards the stairs when I am pulled in an empty classroom and blindfolded. I was seated in a chair as the blindfold was removed. At first, the light dazed my eyesight. But when it adjusted to the light, I saw that in front of me, there were three girls, Yukari, the shy and intelligent one, Mina, the childish girl with large eyebrows, and Sanae, unruffled and quietly amused by her antics.

They were staring at me as I was some sort of criminal and they were interrogating me. Finding myself speechless, I laugh awkwardly as their glare on me deepens. Finally Mina asked, "Nishikata, do you know why you are here."

"Ha ha well, I...guess...I...don't!?"

"Nishikata," Yukari said, "You are here because we suspect you to the kidnapper of Takagi."

"WHAT? TAKAGI HAS BEEN KIDNAPPED? WHEN? HOW? WAIT...WHY AM I ACCUSED OF IT?"

"Because the last time we saw her was yesterday at the candy shop. You and Takagi got out of the candy shop. When we saw you, we hid in the alleyway. After that, she was never seen and today, she is absent."

"What does that prove? Wait, you think she is kidnapped because she is absent today? Oh c'mon."

"Hold on, I think he is innocent, we should let him go." Sanae said coldly.

"No, he is not" Mina shouted, "He ,must have kidnapped takagi-" the door opened, revealing out drawing teacher. When she saw me tied and the famous trio interrogating me, she said, "What is happening here?! Why is Nishikata tied?"

"Ma'am, you do not know, this boy is a criminal-"Mina said as I cut her off.

"NO MAAM," I said, "I DID NOT KIDNAP TAKAGI, I SWEAR. IT'S TRUE THAT WE WENT TO TANDEM RIDING LAST SATURDAY, BUT THAT'S IT. I DROPPED HER HOME. I HAVE NEVER SEEN HER AFTER THAT"

"Shut up, liar" Mina said.

"Takagi?" our drawing teacher said with a confused look, "She is absent today because she is sick. Her mother called. Why will he kidnap him? He cannot even talk to her properly."

When she said that, the expression of the two changed from anger to awkward. Although, Sanae still looked emotionless. Yukari immediately untied me and said, "Sorry Nishikata" All three of them bowed to me.

I was panting because I was tied so hard. I said, "Next time, uh, please, uh, please verify before pointing fingers at someone. I left them with the drawing teacher as I went towards the canteen.

After school, I wanted to see Takagi. So, I took an extra copy' of the day's homework to give it to her. This would make an excellent excuse. When I arrived at Takagi's gate, butterflies ran through my stomach as I visualized Takagi kissing me. I ran to the door and just hit the door bell, trying to keep my blush. Takagi's mother opened the door. When she saw me, she gestured me to go inside as she went inside herself.

I found my way to the living room and made myself comfortable at the same old sofa. My eyes again went to the picture. Takagi's mom entered the living area and said, "Why are you sitting here?"

I stood up and said, "I am sorry. I just thought I should sit here. I will stand if there is a problem."

Takagi's mom started laughing and said, "Of course not, there is no problem. I just wanted you to go to Takagi's room. I told her you came in but it seems you never followed me. Go to her room, upstairs. She is lying there. Her Grandma is taking care of her."

She had a grandma? Well, that was new. I slowly moved towards the stairs when Takagi's mother said, "Nishikata," I turned to her while she continued, "What did you do to her? She has been sick since she came back from the tandem riding."

"I...uh...what..." Takagi's mother burst out laughing as I was blushing, remembering the small kiss...

She said, "Just go. She was right about you. Besides, I saw what happened yesterday when she came back" she winked at me after saying that. I was so utterly bewildered that I walked out of there, blushing hard.

When I entered Takagi's room, I was greeted by her grandmother. She was old. Her age must be around 80. She was wearing a white kimono and giving wet cloth over Takagi's head. She smiled and gestured me to sit beside Takagi.

I hesitantly sat down beside Takagi. Her room did not have much furniture. There was a small single bed beside the window which had bookshelf at the end. There was a white cupboard with dolls above it. There was the dressing table which had the pin and the Necklace I gave her along with some other cosmetics. Also, there was the box I gave her to prank her (and failed miserably).

Takagi slowly opened her eyes and when she saw me, she gave a weak smile. She said, "So, you are missing me already?"

I blushed hard, not because I denied it, but because I was unable to accept the truth. So I lied and said the partial truth, "N-No, t-that's not it. I just brought in the homework. Tanabe-sensei sent me to do this."

"Oh" she made a sad face and said, "oh. So you only came here for it. It is ok for you without me?"

I blushed harder and said, "NO, THATS NOT IT!"

She laughed weakly, coughing frequently. I said, "Don't laugh now. Heal yourself so that you can laugh without any pain."

"Thanks, "She said with a broken voice. I turned to Takagi's grandmother who was smiling seeing us. Then she said, "She has a little cold, probably because of having ice cream" she glared at Takagi. Takagi smiled sheepishly. She continued, "She would be well within two day." I felt bad. I have to wait two more days.

I spent an hour talking with Takagi. Surprisingly, she did not tease me much. When I was about to leave, I said, "Takagi, I should leave now."

She weakly replied, "Take care. And thanks for today." But luckily, she did not kiss me. This would have been hard to explain to his family.
