"Winners of tonight's game, Kildare High School!" The stands went wild as the girls team sat together. Most of us were wearing our boyfriends matching jerseys over ours to show support, it was something we did for every game.

"JJ is waiting for you." My classmate nudged my shoulder and pointed to the bottom of the bleachers. There JJ stood, pointing at me with a big smile on his face. As I ran down the bleachers he opened his arms and I jumped into them, my legs wrapping securely around his waist.

"You did amazing!" I congratulated him as I kissed his cheek. His arms held on tighter as I leaned back to look at him, both of our cheeks flushing red as our classmates made comments about us being adorable from behind.

"You're about to do even better, your game is starting soon." He returned the kiss and planted his lips onto my cheek. His hand patted my thigh and I jumped down then slipped his oversized jersey off of me so I could rep my own number and name.

"Wish me luck!" I called out as I backed away from him. We did our tradition of holding our hands in the air in the shape of a heart and I felt butterflies in my stomach.

"You don't need it! Kick ass, babe!" JJ exclaimed. The coach quickly scolded him for swearing and I ran off with a laugh leaving my chest.

With the girls team now huddled together we went over our plays one last time.

"Run 'Bird' after kick-off." I told the girls. Yes, 'Bird' was a play dedicated to one of my best friends, John B. He came up with it one night and ever since we started running it we've always scored a goal.

I was a midfielder, so I was used to having the ball and playing offense towards the other team. For the play I stayed left and ran the field, juke once to right field, then the ball would come back to me last second and I'd score the goal.

"Remember ladies," Our coach joined the huddle, "The only failure is not trying, play hard or go home." She was definitely a 'tough love' type of coach but she loved us like no other, she pushed us to be the best players we could be.

"Everybody ready?" My friend asked and we shook our heads, "Y/n, lead our chant." I smiled and the huddle quickly broke. As we ran to the field I stayed closer to the bleachers to hype up our school section.

"What time is it!?" I shouted.

"Game time!" The schools voices mixed together but JJ always made sure he was the loudest during the chant. He claims it's because he's my biggest supporter, which was the sweetest thing ever.

"I can't hear you!" I held my hand to my ear in order to get them louder.

"Game time!" The second shout is always, by far, louder than the first. Before I ran out to my position I met JJ's gaze and waved at him, he returned it with a smile on his face.

As I made my way to left field I gave each teammate I passed a high-five, also something we did before every game. One of the referees made their way to center field as the captains of both teams followed. I couldn't hear them so I wasn't sure what the opposing team called for the coin flip. Since we were on their field, they called heads or tails.

When I saw our captain grab the ball I knew we won the coin toss and when she made her way back for kick-off I readied my feet.

Every time the game began my mind was always a blur, my main focus being to get the ball, follow the play, and score a goal. So before I knew it I was bolting across the field, stealing the ball, and dribbling it between my feet.

"Bird!" I shouted and side kicked the ball to right field. I stayed level with my run and made my way down the field, before I knew it I was hearing 'bird' called back. Right before I could kick the ball into the goal someone on the opposing team slid and knocked my ankle with her cleat. After I lost the ball she kicked her other foot against my leg again and I fell to the ground in pain.

"Watch yourself, Kildare." She laughed before running down the field.

"That's gotta be a foul!" I screamed as I rubbed my ankle. I couldn't even move it, every time I tried I'd be met with pain sent up my leg, "That shit was on purpose!"

Everyone on my team rushed over to make sure I was okay, "Time out!" My coach shouted, "What happened?"

"That bitch slid and kicked my ankle, that's a foul on them, right?" I asked, still attempting to move my ankle but I couldn't.

"Language." My coach reminded and I rolled my eyes. As she turned around to talk to the referee I saw everyone in our student section standing, JJ was at the bottom of the stands with a worried expression on his face, clearly arguing with his coach to let him on the field.

"Foul on Kildare!" The referee said into the mic and that's when I lost my temper. With the help of one of my friends I stood up onto one foot and began to shout.

"How the hell is that a foul on us!? Do you have eyes!?" I screamed at the ref. Out of the corner of my eye I saw the girl that kicked me and held my middle finger up at her, "Stupid bitch!" She also lost her temper and began quickly making her way to me, but I was as ready as I could be.

At the last second JJ's blonde hair stood in between us, "Absolutely not." Within seconds I was lifted over his shoulder as he carried me off the field towards the bleachers.

"Can you at least carry me like an actual person and not a sack of potatoes?!" I asked and he sighed, flipping me back over his shoulder and into his arms bridal style, "Sorry, that just pissed me off. You saw what happened, right?"

"I saw it, but we're playing against the rich kids, what else did you expect?" He asked. I shrugged, he was right, the other team would get away with just about anything in order for us to lose. The guys could win, but for some reason the girls were held at a higher standard, claiming the games were more 'cut-throat' and 'aggressive'.

"Can you move it?" He asked once we were sat on the bottom bench of the bleachers. He gently rolled my ankle back and I winced in pain, he stopped immediately, "She messed you up pretty bad."

"I'm finding her ass after the game is over." I hissed. I was infuriated that she got away with it so she'd get her payback.

Before JJ could respond one of the guys from the other school yelled, "Your girlfriend sucks!"

"Stay right here." JJ clenched his jaw and held my face in his hand for a second before standing up.

"JJ." I warned, knowing exactly what was about to happen, "JJ!"

My shouts were no use. I watched as my boyfriend made his way up the metal stairs and walked right over to the guy that shouted. JJ grabbed him by the collar of his shirt, pulled his arm back, and punched him right in the jaw. Suddenly the one on one fight turned into an all out brawl as other people jumped in. Teachers, coaches, and the referees ran into the stands and broke them apart.

"Kick him off the team!" The opposing school shouted while pointing at JJ. As JJ was dragged down the bleachers by his coach I stopped them by holding my arm out.

"I can walk, alright? I got legs." JJ shrugged the coaches hands off his jersey and stood by me.

"I don't wanna do this to you, Maybank, but you're off the team. I can't defend that type of aggression." The coach said to JJ and I pushed myself to stand on my good foot.

"What about the bitch on the other team!? That foul was on them and you know it!" I argued. The coach rolled his eyes and I scoffed for what felt like the hundredth time tonight. This was bullshit, "Then I'm off the team, too."

"Y/n, no-" JJ began but I cut him off.

"No, fuck them, this is ridiculous." I turned to him, "I'm going home." I began walking in the other direction, every time I tried to step on my other foot I would wobble because of the pain. I heard JJ quickly follow and his arm slipped under me. We made our way off the bleachers and away from the field.

"Does that feel better?" JJ asked as he put a pillow beneath my ankle, he also put an ice pack wrapped in a towel on top to sooth the pain.

"Yeah, thank you, baby." I held my arms up to gesture I wanted some sort of attention and he happily complied by laying lightly on top of me, "Thanks for having my back on the stands, that guy was an ass."

"No one talks to my girl like that." He replied and wrapped his arm around me, pulling our bodies as close together as they could be, "Tomorrow we can go get that ankle checked out, unless you wanna go tonight? Either is fine."

"Tomorrow, please, I'm exhausted." I said. He lifted his head from my chest and kissed my forehead before rolling off me and getting comfy, "Can you shut my light off?"

"Yeah." JJ got off my bed and rid himself of his shirt then flicked the light off. Thankfully the first thing we did when we got to my house was change into different clothes, it was difficult for me but JJ helped, "C'mere." He said quietly as he laid back down. I lifted my head and rested it back to its spot on his chest.

I nuzzled my head into the crook of his neck and did my best not to twist my ankle around too much, "I love you, Maybank."

"I love you, too, L/n."

And with that the former soccer players of Kildare High School drifted to sleep peacefully.
