the play

Sikowitz sipped a coconut while staring into the air, seemingly trying to think of what he was about to say.
"The play.", I reminded him, annoyed.

"Right, thanks Jade." he said, turning back to the class.
"Here's the paper with the role assignments."
He grabbed a crumpled sheet of paper out of his pants pocket and hung it on the board with a magnet.

Immediately everyone jerked forward, but I pushed everyone to the side and pushed my way to the front.

A small, triumphant smile crept onto my lips when I saw that I had gotten the lead role. And the second lead was.... Y/N.

Sounds cheesy as hell, but I could feel the anticipation welling up inside me. Yet I didn't even know what the play was about, but if we both got the lead, we'd probably spend a lot of time together.

I turned around, and as expected, she was sitting quietly at her table, tickling something while she seemed to be humming something softly. Funny, it was so loud in the room, and yet I seemed to hear only her. The pencil hitting the rough wood, and the soft, soothing hum.
She was so beautiful-
No, shut up, Jade.
Don't think like that. At least not now.

"Get out of the way!", I yelled, and right then and there, everyone stepped to the side. The only one who didn't notice was Y/N. As usual, she was in her own world. God I love her-
I want to bang my head against a wall.

"Right, thanks for keeping the peace, Jade.", Vega said sarcastically before dropping into her seat.

I couldn't even describe how happy it filled me that I got the lead role and not her. I was incredibly happy to see her so pissed off.

" Did it ring a bell? It sounded to me like the bell rang."

"We've only had class for 20 minutes-" said Andrew, confused.

"Then - eh- just go."

He waved us out with a gesture, whereupon everyone hastily packed up their things without protest.

Except for Y/N, she winced slightly as she noticed the commotion around her, sighed, and then slowly set about shoving her pad into her bag.
I took a little longer too, because I felt the urge to talk to her. At least now I had a good reason to talk to her. Half the school had already tried to make friends with her. Especially Tori often talked to her, but Y/N only grimaced and nodded with played interest.
And strangely enough, it didn't take long for the big, bad Jade West to fall absolutely in love with the girl. Just everything about her was captivating and fascinating. Like she was out of this world.

Since she had joined the class this year, I don't think she had talked to anyone once.
Enough simping, at least for today. Or this hour. I probably won't last longer than that.

By now, everyone was out of the classroom except Sikowitz, Y/N, and me.

"Ah, Jade and Y/N. That's exactly who I need. About the play, here are the scripts." He tossed the two stapled-together piles of sheets onto the floor in front of us. "Read it over."

While I rolled my eyes in annoyance, Y/N squatted down, picked up the papers, and just looked at Sikowitz dumbly.

"And there's a kissing scene between you, so please rehearse it well."
He gave me another conspiratorial wink before turning and jumping out the window.

Y/N sighed softly.
I pretended not to hear it. It triggered a brief stab in my heart.

"Can I have your number? Just for the play, of course?", I asked, to which she just nodded and pulled her phone out of her pocket. She unlocked it, typed something around, and then held her number in front of my face.
Confused, my eyes wandered from the screen to her. She looked directly into my eyes - her eyes were beautiful. I could not escape her gaze. Something about her expression captivated me. I stared into her eyes for what felt like eternities before I forced myself to look away. What must she think of me when I act like an idiot.

"Do you want my number or not?"
At the sound of her voice, I immediately turned to her. Holy crap did she have a beautiful voice. She looked at me with amusement and tilted her head.

I could swear that at that very moment my heart was beating faster than ever. Holy shit I had really fallen in love.
"Yeah.", I answered curtly, because I couldn't just stare at her stupidly. And I had to keep my reputation somehow, right?
She pointed her head at her cell phone. "My arm is getting heavy speed it up a bit honey."

Although she had a certain mixture of sarcastic and annoyed tone, I couldn't help but grin at the word treasure. Honey? I could get used to that.
Okay, stick to the point, Jade. You're acting like a pubescent teenage girl.

I typed the number into my contact book and saved it.
"Surprising to hear you talk, too," I said in passing.
"I bet you've imagined this many times, haven't you?" she replied with a grin, pocketing her phone again. I froze for a moment. "What do you mean?"
"Well you know. Your little crush on me."
I looked up from my phone and narrowed my eyes to slits.
"How did-"

"I'm not stupid," she interrupted, giving me a challenging look. "Don't take it the wrong way, I think it's cute. Bad Jade falls in love with Silent Sweet Girl. Sorry, Jade, but I'm not at all like you imagine. Rip yourself away from the dream image."

"I didn't see you as the quiet sweet girl." I took a step toward her, and this time it was she who seemed caught off guard. Better. Much better. "I don't have a dream image of you. I want to get to know you. And whether you say yes or no, you don't have a choice." A grin spread across my face. "Either way, you're going to spend time with me." By now, I was millimeters away from her face. My gaze drifted from her eyes to her lips, back to her eyes staring back at me, intimidated and fascinated at the same time. Awh.

"So love, you're not getting rid of me anytime soon," I added, to which she swallowed hard.

I was enjoying this more than I should. I enjoyed being in control again. I took a step back and looked at her superiorly. She straightened up again and her challenging look was back. "Then I'm looking forward to the kissing scene, which we'll have to 'rehearse well'," she replied cockily.

I grinned. "Me too."
