Chapter 9

•“Bese ubona ukuthi wheeee!”

I'ts Sunday evening and I'm preparing for my date with Qhawe. I wear my long red body-hugging silk dress, it's backless and has a slit running all the way to my left thigh . I called Gcina to come do my make up and all I can say is that he dolled me up and I look like flames. I finish off my look by wearing my pair of blingy stilettos and I take my small purse.

“You look like flames, twirl for me”, Gcina says with Kwazi standing besides him.

I do a mini twirl and they take pictures of me.
Someone knocks and Kwazi goes to open.

“I was sent by Mr Majola to come pick you up Ms Londiwe.”, Derrick says. He's wearing like a chauffeur today, with the hats, gloves and all instead of a black blazer and  black jeans.

I bid farewell to Kwazi and Gcina and go to the Car with Derrick. It's the Red Tesla! I love this car. Qhawe probably asked Derrick to drive me in it because I said I love red. Derrick opens the door for me and I climb in.
We drive to a classy Italian restaurant somewhere in Sandton. I see Qhawe walking to us looking all yummy in that black tuxedo and red tie.

“You look ... amazing.”, he says drooling over me. I just blush.

“May I ?” , he takes out his hand.

“Yes,you may.” , I give him my hand and he leads us to the big restaurant.

I hear Derrick driving off with the car. The restaurant is empty and dim lighted. On the stage area there's a band playing jazz music.

“Why aren't there other people here?”, I ask him, walking towards our table.

“ Because I booked the whole restaurant, here take a seat.”, he says , dismissing my question and pulls out a chair for me to sit on.

I sit and he goes sit on the chair opposite to me. He signals by his hand for the waiter to come. I order white wine while he orders a glass of whiskey as we wait for our food.

“So who is Londiwe?", He takes a sip of his whisky.

I sigh, “ Londiwe is a 24 year old woman born and bred in Soweto. Raised by my grandmother. I work as a P.A in M&M holdings and I have only one sibling, Kwazi,my brother. My favourite colour is red and reading is my only hobby.” , “how about you?”

“ I'm 29. I was born in KZN but we moved here when I was young. I was raised by both of my parents and I have four siblings, three males and one female one of my brother's is late though. I'm a lawyer and I have 3 businesses running on the side. My favourite colour is sunset orange and my hobby is work .", I giggle at the last part.

The food comes and we eat while he makes jokes here and there.

“ I know it's still the first date but I'm an impatient man Ms Ziqubu.”, he says putting down the fork.

“Will you be my partner? I want someone to build with , someone who's gonna hold me in my darkest days and I need you to be that someone.”, he looks at me sternly.

I'm lost for words, I do like him but I'm not even in this person's league and there's a lot I don't know about him.

“ We'll have many more dates and we'll get to know each other but I want to do that with you being mine and me being yours.”, his eyes are begging.

“ before I answer you are you married ?” , I ask.

“ No ,I'm not. I'm single as they come”, he smiles, revealing his perfect teeth.

“Any crazy exes I should know about?”

“ No, don't worry about that.” , he looks at my bare shoulder.

“Then yes,I will be your partner.”,

I smile at him and he returns the smile. We go back to eating our food , asking each other more questions.
At ten p.m he drove me back home  and as usual,he opened the door for me.

“So this is it ”, I say to him with his blazer on my shoulders.

He says nothing and pulls me to him for a hug. I stay in his warm arms for a little longer.

“Thank you, I'll try by all means to make you  happy.”, he says above my head because he's taller. I try to look up to him but he pushes my head gently back to his chest.
