Chapter 2

"Inuyasha, enough with the attitude. And let them believe what they must to be at peace still." Isa says with a dull sharpness to her brother. She still has the intimidation that she looked at me with the first time we met. We just prayed for our food.

"Well we have to go. The jewel shards aren't going to find themselves." Inuyasha still won't give up on that, he sits at a tray with his arms crossed and an angry pout on his face. We're in one of the houses left standing, which just so happens to be mine, where after hours of work to put the fires out we're able to eat.

"Isayama, may I ask something of you?" I finally speak up for the first time since we started watering the fires away. Isa turns to me from where she stands, accepting my request.

"What is it that makes it so important to find these shards?" I ask, gaining a scoff from Inuyasha.

"It's none of your business." He says before Isa can say anything, but she ignores his remark and explains.

"There is a demon out there by the name of Naraku who is also after the jewel shards. If he gets the whole jewel he will bring unspeakable devastation to all the lands." Isayama smoothly states. Questions begin filling my mind.

"Yeah, so we have to leave before he gets the whole jewel." Inuyasha stands up to be at Isa's level and puffs out his chest to show he's in charge. Isa doesn't change her expression.

"We, or should I say you, destroyed the village while trying to reclaim a shard. You should be happy they aren't trying to attack you and use your skin for a floor mat." She says with a bored matter-of-fact. Inuyasha pulls his fist up to hit her but stops and sits back at his tray in defeat. So even she, Isayama, argues with her brother. It's weird to think such a thing about her, but it still crosses my mind and makes me smile slightly. There's a knock on a door frame and we turn our attention to the door to find Kuzaki standing there with hesitation.

"Lady Isayama, sorry for interrupting, but may we walk?" Kuzaki's voice is nervous and I mentally laugh. I turn my head back to Isa to see her nod slightly.  Inuyasha stands up again.

"Inuyasha, relax. I'll know if anything is wrong before you do. So sit and enjoy the little break we get to enjoy." Inuyasha stays standing but doesn't say anything else so Isa turns to Kagome. "Would you like me to show you the hot springs near the river?"

"Yes please. That would be very nice." Kagome's voice is kind and soft.

"I can accompany her for protection." I say, as Kagome stands up. She gives me a smile.

"Then we can get to know each other. And talk about...things." She says, trying to hide a giggle. Isayama doesn't waver her soft smile and waits for Kagome to follow. I stand and go to a storage to get a couple of towels and a bag so we can keep our stuff together when we dry off. I follow Kagome and stop as I reach the door, turning to Inuyasha again with a confused look on his face.

"Please, enjoy your time here Inuyasha. We are a very peaceful village with many friendly greetings to outsiders. Eat and make yourself comfortable, me and your companions will be back before it gets too late." He doesn't say anything and I turn back to the door to find Kagome, Isayama and Kuzaki already outside in the moonlit night, waiting for me.

"(Y/n), why don't you take Kagome to the springs. I will accompany you after I bring Kuzaki back to the village." Kagome nods and wraps her arm through mine. I smile a goodbye and we separate ourselves. Kagome and I to the warm waters and Isayama and Kuzaki around the village.

"What's that boy's name?" Kagome asks once she feels we're far enough away from Isa. I smile.

"That was Kuzaki. He's going onto his 18th year tomorrow." I say, remembering his celebration last year. Kagome gasps.

"His birthday is tomorrow? That makes their date even cuter!" Kagome squeals slightly which causes me to chuckle.

"Yes, Kuzaki does like Isayama. He has since she first saved us. He's waited most impatiently for her to return." I state as calmly as I can. I stop as we come to the edge of the hot springs. "Here we are. We don't have to worry about wandering eyes due to the rocks, but I would advise keeping all parts you don't want to be seen under the water until you have your towel." Kagome begins to undress and steps in the steaming water with a sigh.

"It's so warm." Her voice is childish. I undress and pull our clothes together so it will be easier to get to when we get out.

I place the bag with our towels and our clothes near the water but far enough to where they won't get wet and sit myself in the water, the heat relaxing my body. Kagome sits across from me with her eyes closed in relief.

"I don't get to do this very much, Inuyasha is so bent on getting those shards quickly. That's why he had us split up with the others." She says a bit sadly.

"Who else do you usually travel with?" I question in wonder.

"Well, there's this munk named Miroku. He's a real big perv and I'm kinda glad he isn't here to sneak a peek. Then there's a demon slayer named Sango. She's really good at fighting and she has this thing for Miroku, though she doesn't like to admit it. Then there's her demon companion Kirara, and the little fox demon Shippo. Inuyasha always picks on him." Kagome brings up from memory. She looks back at me with interest. "So, tell me about you."
