CHAPTER 14

"Hey," the voice said. She cracked the door open, looking at the young man she saw earlier. Her cheeks heating, she realised that he was looking for HER.
She slid out from the room, without looking back. He smiled, and her eyes widened as she awkwardly and a little shyly, smiled back. He looked down the hall, and so did she.
"Uhm.. okay, this is kind of weird. My name is Moman, and I think you'd be... (Y/n)?" He asked. Her heart dropped. She knew now that he must've recognised her, and that everyone must have.
Her smile dropped into fear.
"You got the wrong person." She tried to go back into the room, but he held the door.
"I-I'm not gonna tell anyone," he said. "And trust me, I wish I had the same courage as you." She paused, trapped in between the door, his arm blocking her from escaping.
"Alright, Moman. What is it that you need then?" She asked.
"I just have questions," he said. She raised an eyebrow, but he was cute, and she felt like she owed it to him. The dimly lit hotel made shadows on his dark skin that looked pleasing. The smell, on the other hand, ruined the moment.
"Alright. Let's walk then," she said, pushing past him. She walked fast, and he could barely keep up.
They walked down the hallway, then slipped into the elevator, going down.
"So what made you leave?" He asked, putting hands in his blue jacket. She thought for a moment. She couldn't tell him the real reason, that would give everything away.
She lied. "They were holding me back. I have better things to do in life, and even if they're my family, I won't be held back." Well, it was somewhat true, at least.
"Who are the guys that you're with?" She paused.
"Why do you want to know?" He looked down, and the elevator door opened to the main lobby.
"I saw what your family was like. It reminded me of my own, and, there's a lot of theories on why you left. Like some people believe you're a runaway, and others think you were kidnapped. Kidnapped, and put into human trafficking."
She scoffed. "Yikes," he gave her a questioning glance, and she rolled her eyes. "I'm not being put on the streets. I'm not a prostitute."
"Then, who-"
"Companions. They're helping me get out."
"And where are you going?" He asked, leaving her thoughtful. Where was she going?
"Moman, there's a lot of things you don't understand. And my situation, is one of them. Good luck with your family." She tried to go back into the elevator, but he grabbed her arm. Instinctively, she grabbed his, and held up a fist. Before she could punch, he yelled a confession.
"I'm gay," his hands were over his closed eyes as he shook. "I'm gay. They're Christian. Black, gay guys just aren't a thing in this part of town I live in. This world I live in. They would kill me if they knew." She paused, staring at him. She put her first down.
"Oh,"
"..yeah."
"Oh."
"I know you're not a prostitute, (Y/N). I don't know what your goals are but I know that no one can find you. I need your help. I need to get out." She stared at him, then gave a small, sad smile.

They were outside of the hotel, at the edge of the fenced off woods. They stood underneath a singular light as they talked.
"You need cash. Lots of it. Resources. Consider myself one of them now, alright? I'll give you my contact information later. But I swear, Moman,"
"I won't tell anyone." She stared at him and he smiled. "Trust me."
"Alright. I believe you."
"Hey, who are those 'companions' of yours, though?" She gave a devious smile.
"Why, think one of them is cute?" He hid his hands with his face and smiled. "Sure, why not." They giggled together, and the coldness of the night didn't seem to bother them as much as it did before.
Brian was up first, groggily wiping his face. "Uggh, (y/n)," he moaned out. "(Y/n)," he repeated. His eyes shot open and he sat up. "(Y/n)? (Y/n)! Tim, wake the fuck up! Where is she?!" Tim's eyes shot open, red and puffy from the sleep as he sat up.
"What??"
"Where is she?!?"
"I don't know!" Tim yelled, rolling off the bed. "Come on, let's go! What if it got h-"
The door opened, from behind it the two men heard soft giggles of the opposite sex. They stared at each other, confused.
(Y/n) and Moman walked in, arms entwined as they talked and giggled. They both looked up to the men, and the girl smiled.
"Hey Moman, the bastards are finally up! Tim, Brian, this is Moman. Moman, Tim and Brian, but I already told you about them."
"H-hi, nice to meet you," he stuttered out. The two men stared at him, and then back at the girl.
Brian as the first to speak. "Ha, (y/n), a moment??" He rushed over to the girl, strongly taking her arms and wrapping his own around her torso, ripping her away from the boy. He glared at him, a smile still stuck on his face. Tim then came in.
"No, she can't be your girlfriend." Moman's eyes went wide as he stuttered. (Y/n) scolded them, "stop being so jealous! I'm not your girlfriend either!" Tim scoffed, and then walked over to Moman.
"Sorry about that, kid." He put a firm hand on the moman's shoulder, and he shrugged it off, leaning closer to the comfort of the girl.
"Anyways, where did you guys go?" Brian asked, trying to break the awkward tension.
"We went and talked outside of the motel," she responded with, pushing past the two men, and dragging the boy behind her. "Nothing of your concern, really."
"Hm, alright," Tim said, walking towards them. "How did you-"
"Moman recognized me from the papers. Speaking of which, I need a change in style, and fast."
Tim groaned. "See, I knew this was gonna happen. What are we gonna do?" He asked.
"We could cut her hair," Moman said. "And change her eye colour. I have blue eye contacts," he said. They looked at each other and the girl smiled.
"Ha! Moman's a fucking life saver. C'mon, can you cut hair?"
Moman nodded. "My mother works at a hair salon, and I stuck around."
Brian chuckled. "Man, fucking great. Alright, who's got scissors? Moman, kid, get the contacts. We need to destroy the hair after we cut it. We can't be tracked down, NOT AGAIN," he said, staring directly at Tim.
"Hey, shut up, Brian! That was like my only fuck up."
Brian rolled his eyes, smiling. "Suurree. Alright, let's get to it."

An hour later, the girl's hair was cut up above her chin. It being naturally thick, it stuck out. While she didn't hate it, she didn't really like it. Whatever, it was a good haircut, and now No one would really recognize her.
The blue contacts were in, hiding her original eye colour. They itched her eyes, but that's what it was usually like when you first start wearing them. She looked...Different. She didn't hate her look before, actually, she liked the way she looked. She felt like a completely different person. It shook her.
"Wow," Brian said. "I don't know, I thought you were pretty cute before. I mean the hair is great, but the eyes throw me off."
Tim agreed. "Well it's fine, it's only for now."
She turned to see Moman, who stood before her.
"Thank you, so much, Moman."
He smiled. "It's the least I could do, really," his phone vibrated several time, and he fished it out of his joggers. "Hello?" His face after a few seconds turned into a face contorted in horror, as he questioned the person on the phone. He hung up, and began to cry.
She stood up, holding him. "Moman what happened?!" She questioned.
"M-my brother- he's missing," the trio looked at each other in horrification. "He's been talking about this- man- or something, and- and saying it's gonna take him and-"
"And now he's gone?" Brian asked. Moman nodded, now holding onto the girl for support.
"They saw him by the woods, we need to go look for him!"
"Moman, that's really not a good idea. I know you're scared-"
He sobbed, and ran out of the room.
"Fuck!" Brian and (y/n) yelled. (y/n) ran out of the room, chasing after him. Brian followed, as Tim contemplated. "Fuck, (y/n)... You're lucky you're cute," he muttered to himself, then running after them.
He ran to the edge of the woods, the fence gating them off. He looked around to see a whole in the fence, which he opened and ran through.
"Wait! You can't go into the woods!" (y/n) yelled. She watched as he ran through, calling out for his brother.
"Matteo! Matteo!" He yelled, frantically searching. She ran after him. Running deeper into the woods, he fell onto his knees. The girl gasped in horror, seeing a boy's body hang from the tree. Organs ripped out from his stomaches, face beaten in, as if something heavier than bricks smashed into his face withe evil intent. His fingers had nails through them, his body nude, except for his socks. His brown skin was now pasty, the expression in his eyes.. gone.

Tim and Brian followed behind, staring. Tim closed his eyes, sighing. They all huddled to Moman, embracing him. They all felt his pain. All of them. This thing- this monster, the operator, took another innocent life.
