Rae's pov
Saturday

Waking up to an empty bed left me confused. Zairen was never a morning person, so what would have her up this early?

Sitting up in the bed I stretched my body. My nose filled with the beautiful smell of..... breakfast?

My parents were not going to be back for a bit, and as far as I knew none of us could cook. Throwing my blanket in the air, I rushed downstairs to see what heaven sent to my kitchen. Only to find the athlete making an omlete in the pan.

"Good morning," she said, giving me that award winning smiled that melted my heart.

Meanwhile, I was still kn a state of slight shock. My bestfriend was cooking.

"Here I already made this for you. If you want any more it is some left on the stove."

Sitting at the counter I was met with a plate of colorful berries on a golden brown waffle. Covered in the sweetly pleasant smell of maple syrup.

"Wow..."

I was awe struck, I didn't know how much Zairen has changed since I left. The food was complete heaven, crunchy outside with soft inside. The berries gave it a bitter taste yet all went in balance with the sweetness of the maple syrup.

"Do you like it," she seemed a bit nervous when she ask. The anticipation killing her every second as her fingers tapped the counter.

Covering my mouth I answered, "I love it."

She giggled, letting out a breath of relief.

"Good, because that would've been a big waste of my summer."

She went back to chopping up berries for her own golden brown waffle.

"So what do you think you want to do today," I asked stuffing more of the glorious waffle into my mouth.

"How about a movie?"

"Can we watch a scary movie," I suggested. Let's make one thing clear, when it comes to scary movies I am terrified of them, but being the stubborn person I am I never want to abck down from a challenge.

My bestfriend sighed, a small smile appeared on her face knowing there was no talking me out of the genre.

"Ok, we can go see a scary movie."

I squealed in excitement running up the stairs to get dressed for our movie night out.

Zairen was never in as much of a rush as me cause she never took as long to get ready as I did.

After finishing her breakfast she came in to my room changing in to some fresh clothes, while I sat in a pile of fabric on the floor.

Carefully examining each color to decide which I was in the mood for more. I could feel her eyes staring at me, possibly waiting on me to ask her which shirt I would look best in.

This was a common reoccurrence, but I have missed it since I left for the summer. Not being able to have her help me through my mental stress of clothes was chaotic.

Thirty minutes passed as I finally settled on a red crop top and some ripped jeans.

During the ride to the movies we both screamed songs at the top of our lungs. I'm pretty sure a few cars laughed at us in amusement or just looked at us horrified.

NO ONE'S POV

Taking the final turn the two bestfriends entered the movie theater parking lot. Since it was a Saturday, parking was scarce, but they where able to find a spot close enough for their liking to the front door.

Exiting the car, the neon lights illuminated both of their eyes. Rae giggled with excitment passing the advertisement posters for all of the new horror films while Zairen quietly laughed of amusement.

As much as she loved Rae, she knew how this would end.

Rae will wake up screaming a few times through out the night leaving her to console the girl back to a calm slumber.

Not that she was complaining since she got to hold her bestfriend in her arms for the rest of the night.

Once the decision was made on which movie to watch, both girls pulled out their cards to pay.

"Let me, think of it as a welcome home gift," the football player entered her card paying for the ticket.

Rae sighed in defeat, "Fine, but I'm paying for the snacks."

Zairen was thankful that her bestfriend did, because thirty minutes later the popcorn ended up all over the floor due to Rae's jumping.

For the next two hours the curly-haired girl hide behind her bestfriend. Followed by the occasional phrase 'I can't look', yet she glances through the small spaces of her hands.

After the movie was over the girls went back to Rae's house, showering and changing clothes to get ready for bed.

The girl fell asleep quite fast, or so Zairen thought.

What felt like a few seconds later, there was a high pitched shriek jumping her out of her peaceful slumber.

A panicking Rae beside her stealing every ounce of the warm blanket the cold room had to offer the two girls.

As if it was nothing but a constant routine the sleepy athlete wrapped her arms around her scared bestfriend, pulling her back to lay down.

"It was just a bad dream Rae," the sleepy voice of her taller bestfriend soothed her.

Once calm she just laughed," Maybe it was a bad idea to see a scary movie with me."

The girls just laid there in soft giggles while looking at the other.

"I wouldn't want it any other way. But yes you are right we are not letting you see another scary movie."

"Oh fuck you," Rae laughed offendedly

A smug smile appeared on Zairen's face, "When?"

The smaller girl just stared at her. The soft brown eyes seeming to drown her, the smile pulling at her heart. She always replied with her cocky 'never', yet for some reason this time she did not.

Instead she just admired the athelets features, from her long hair that was wrapped in a bun to her sports bra covered chest that was decorated with a small golden chain that held the other half of their matching charms.

"You ok," Zairen asked. Her sleepy voice now laced with concern in response to her bestfriends growing silence. She tightened the hold on her waist to try to get her attention.

Rae's heart felt like it stopped beating. The closeness not unfamiliar yet the energy was strong.

"Yea, I am ok," she replied with a nervous smile.

As they stare at one another, the curly haired girl raised her hand to her bestfriends cheek. Holding it as if she was the most fragile thing on earth.

Everything happened slowly, yet fast. One second she was just staring at her bestfriend, the next her lips where on Zairen's. Gently molding in to one another as if a perfect fit.

Rae felt the hand on her waist pull her closer into warmth, while moving her hand to the athletes bare neck. As the kiss deepened, her mind fogged consuming her in the moment that seemed to last forever.

Sadly, it did not.

Once they pulled apart Rae was left speechless.

" Zairen," she said nervously. Not knowin how exactly to explain what she just did to her bestfriend. The last thing she wanted was for her to lose her. That pain wouldn't be something she could bare.

The taller girl just smiled at her, trying her best to contain her excitment and comfort the brunette.

"It's ok, just go back to sleep."

As if it was magic, Zairen placed a small kiss on Rae's forehead as she fell peacefully asleep. The random burst of nightmare's seemingly forgotten.

_______

While last night was a dream come true for for Zairen, both girls have avoided mentioning the event as if it never happened.

The taller girl got up to make them breakfast. After contemplating, and a lot of convincing, they agreed to go shopping to help Rae find new clothes for school.

On the ride to the mall the girls did their usual routine, blasting their favorite songs playlist and screaming lyrics they couldn't relate to.

Secretly, Rae admired her bestfriend. The way her left hand held the top of the wheel turning it effortlessly, how her right rested either in her lap or on the gear shift.

Nearly ever turn Rae's leg would accidentally shift to touch Zairen's hand causing her own body to freeze. The memory of how they felt on her waist last night still prominent. For the sake of their friendship she kept the growing feelings contained, especially since she didn't really know if they where genuine.

Once parked the girls headed inside. The athlete walked around groaning at every 'girly' store her short bestfriend dragged her into. One after the other she promised to be the last one they went into for the day.

Some how that ended up being six bags and two hours ago. Now Zairen is sitting in a dressing room waiting for the brunette to choose which dress she wanted to try on first.

One was a shiny deep red with a thigh slit, the other a matte brown strapless dress that fell graciously to the floor.

Rae was never the flashy type, but she did like the 'all eyes on me' kind of attention every now and then.

"You promise this is the last store?"

The dark haired girl groaned, her feet was sore from all the walking and her arms where getting tired from all the heavy bags.

"Yes, I promise." The shorter girl responded as she removed her shirt and pants once again. Even though she has seen it a million times, because of current events Zairen tried to distract herself while her bestfriend tried on the dress.

Only lifting her head back up once she heard the key words, "So what do you think?"

Of course she was going to give the same answer she always gave her. The typical 'Yes, I love it', or 'You should get it', or anything just so she could leave the mall faster.

But that all became nothing once she lifted her head to examine the dress.

The thin straps held her caramel shoulders almost perfectly, it looked as if it was a tight fit. Her curves were so bold as the thigh slit made her short legs seem endless and toned.

The minimal view teasing anyone who stared to no end. Her curls sitting perfectly over her shoulders shaping her face in such a way her eyes seemed seductive.

As Rae stood waiting for her answer, the girl felt dumbfounded to think the dress would be like anything else she tried on today.

There was so many things she could say to describe how breath taking her bestfriend looked in the red dress.

"Damn," was the only thing able to escape the dark haired girls lips. The only thing on her mind being she was going to be leaving even gayer then she came.

Rae fidgted with her fingers as she lowered her head. A failt attempt to hide the blush and smile that grew on her face from Zairen's stare.

In that moment both girls knew, pretending nothing ever happened was going to be harder then they thought.
